  1. I'm not worried that were "doing worse" then last season..I think in many ways we are playing better. More ground passing and precision. Some real talent out there waiting to be unleashed. I'd say I'm just as happy right now with the team as I was last year this time.
  2. Hahaha the General gave it to him good..no intellectual rigor...I love that. I said the article was junk from the beginning and they posted it front page. I'd be upset if I were the General too. The article was lacking FACTS and that much was obvious, which of course made me wonder how it was even posted frontpage in the first place. No worries General, I'm with you on this one, I'm 110% positive MON will get the players he wants and the players WE need. Cheers, UP THE VILLA.
  3. :yawntastic: oh nad have a yellow card for spamming the forum - Bicks
  4. hmmm articles are posted on the front page because they are well written and thought out, not because of the number of posts someone has - Bicks
  5. Out of order. Post on people's opinions by all means, or post your opinions, but do not insult other posters. Blandy
  6. I have to agree with most of the original author's comments, I have thought for ages that pass and move football is better football, and certainly more efficient for putting goals in the ol' onion bag. It's more exciting to watch then clobbering tackles, although a good tackle does make me tingle inside. I'd like to comment how what I'd like to see Villa do more of. And that's pass and run. "Pass and move" as Andy Gray says in Fifa07. We showed alot of good pass and move towards the end of last season and some of our pre-season matches. For example Barry's goal with Carew at Columbus, great little One Two, and Bang, back of the net. Also, Berger's goal against Sheffield United last match at Villa Park of the season. That was great seeing players go on runs and work together in a "telepathic" way. That's what futbol is all about, being telepathic, being on the same page as your teammates and even more so - down to the same sentence as your opponents. Foreseeing where a player runs or where a player has a chance to block a pass is essential to the game. We obviously didn't do this against Liverpool - not to the extent I had seen in the pprevious matches in Toronto and Columbus. I know alot of you will say that "oo they're just MLS sides". Sure they are, but that doesn't change the fact that anyone can stop a pass or foresee the threaded ball. The MLS, Liga, Calcio, Eredivisie, the Premiership all have these players and they all know how to use it, otherwise they wouldn't be handpicked to play for these teams. So what's the problem then? We have the talent and the desire, I think what the problem was NERVES. A few of the players, namely Young and Gabi, looked nervous and unsure of themselves when finishing out a run. So many times Young got the ball on the side, or Gabi, and just didn't believe they had what it took to make it past Carrager or Agger, etc. Then we'd have to play the ball back and deal with setting up a new play. That was the most frustrating part about the match beause often times we would lose possession! I think that if Villa would have started out with an away match, the pressure and nerves would have been considerably reduced allowing them to play more freely and confidently. The boys have the skill and talent to cause anyone havoc, I don't care if it's Derby or Chelsea. I see the same thing as MON, raw talent just ready to be unleashed, and I completely agree with MON that they didn't have the self belief last match, a shame. I really hope that their confidence isn't too battered after the first match of the season because if it is, we won't get that start we so desperately need. Keep your chin up boys! We believe and you, now believe in yourselves!
  7. I really like the song for Gabby. The one to the tune of Chameleon. Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Gabby Agbooonlahhooor He gets the ball He scores a gooooalll!!! That one is fookin brilliant!!
  8. General C: One question, can you hire me for a job at Villa Park? I speak Spanish fluently, and can communicate well in Portuguese. I have a TEFL, meaning I can teach English as a Foreign Language. This means any players you buy will have an instructor to teach them English. I have a huge passion for the game and support Aston Villa 150%. I'd work cheap and efficiently and give everything my best. My dream job is to work for the best team in the world, Aston Villa F.C. I understand if you don't want or need me, but a private message would be nice to acknowledge that you have at least read this post. Cheers, keep up the good work. Up the Villa, Sincerely, Brendan J. Mahoney
  9. Amen to PabloPicasso and Bazdavies79. Spot on, couldn't have said it better.
  10. Excellent article Blandy. I think you got it spot on. I think this summer was always going to be something of a black and white for Villa supporters. I always knew we weren't going to be signing huge names, but we wouldn't be signing piss poor ones either. It is a good point to the American owners, welcome to the English Summer, well said. The papers, agents and journalists certainly make this so. They make it difficult on fans, and even more so on the managers. I think the best people to talk to about MON transfers are the Celtic fans. The ones I've heard from are very happy with how he handled the transfer seasons at Celtic. He kept his "cards close". I think this is a very smart move, it works well in negotiating tactics. However, at Celtic, he had a club with a reputation, one that could attract bigger names then Villa. And no disrespect to Villa, I love them to death, but lets be honest. It's why they got the better players out of the basket in Europe. Larsson, Petrov, etc etc. Soo it's an interesting time for MON and his transfer season, he has a load of money, but so do half of the other clubs out there. He has the Villa reputation, which is a big name, but not as big as Celtic, so the competition for signings is to say the least, DIFFICULT. I wish him all the luck and he has my trust in faith. If I could I'd buy 5 season tickets and give them back to the fockers that want theirs replaced. hahaha. UTV
  11. Hahahaha I like how the forum has automatically changed the word dead*wood, to harewood, if someone types dead_wood, without the obvious symbol.. That's class, because he is everything but dead-wood, he will be good for Villa.
  12. Wow, I find this article disrespectful to MON and Fitz. Not extremely, but I guess I just hope that they don't come onto this site and read what some of us have to say. You made some good points, but for the wrong reasons. MON is building a squad, or should I say rebuilding, he is getting rid of dead*wood, (no pun intended, i like MHW). Players that don't want to be at Villa, are given the boot. Amen to that. Before we can start signing top class players, i.e. the Ronaldos', the Torres', we have to be able to offer them something other then a nice wage, and a nice play to live outside Brum. It means we have to offer them Europe. (Yea I know this has all been said before). Soo we need to get UEFA. I came up with a formula that I think is what we are on track to completing. Squad + Ambitions = UEFA. Tottenham have done this and now they are on to the next step, Squad+ Ambitions + UEFA = Top Class Signings. Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpoo, and Arsenal have all done this and taken it one step further: Squad + Ambitions + UEFA + Top Class Signings = Trophies and Titles. Villa have a way to go, but we are on track. We have a world class manager, that creates the ambitions and hopes we need to take it to the next step. We have an owner and board that are succinct with the manager. What Villa does *seem* to have is a load of fans that have little or no faith. This really isn't their fault, nope, it isn't. It's because for the last 24 years have been marred with deceit, fickleness, and lack of ambition. Isn't it natural for us to be skeptical about the board and manager? I suppose it is. But for all you out there that are out of faith and pessimistic about the club, remember, Proud History, Bright Future. Keep that in your head, remember the glass is half full, and the FC is doing its mathematics to get the club into the highest echelons of football.
  13. I'm the bored guy at work talking about Villa on a couple different forums! Thanks for the shout out PB. (However I'm not the guy worrying about our signings, In Martin I Trust). Can't wait for the friendlies in North America, hopefully we have some signings before then....would make my summer!
  14. Hahahha, yea I don't have Claus Jensen on my team in FIFA07, I doubt i would try buying him even. Alan Smith would be a great buy for villa, but I know his nose is stuck in SAF asshole, so i dont think he will be going anywhere, anytime soon. i dont think many players will be leaving Manure...being that they just won the premiership title. we have to be realistic with our signings. Claus is a realistic purchase, but probably not the best skilled. if i had my way we'd spend a load and try and get someone like defoe. he's on the transfer list for the spurs and i really think he will be on our squad by the end of the summer.
  15. Well, where do I start, I'll start off positively. Cicotrell, your backline theory and plan looks well thought out and I agree with you whole heartedly. So I won't go any further on that point. Your midfield is all rubbish though. We have to remember MON wants to start a rotational squad, especially with new signings this summer (obviously). Petrov and Berger should be starting together, they compliment each other. If younoticed the matches that Berger started, the fluidity of the match is phenomenal. He isn't a backup, he needs to start. And so does Maloney, the creativity and the pace on the kid is brilliant, he needs to have a start in the 11. Davis can be a backup to Barry, and Gardner can be a backup to Maloney. It's simple. (I'm a fan of the 4-3-3), That being said I think it should something like this NEW KEEPER (Tommy S) NEW RIGHT BACK Ollie Laursen Bouma (Hughes) (Cahill) (Ridge) (NEW LEFT BACK) Young Berger/Petrov Barry (NEW WINGER) (Gardner) (Davis) Gabby Carew/Maloney Moore (NEW STRIKER) (NEW STRIKER) (NEW STRIKER) Again, rotational, especially with the strikers and midfield. Anyone we sign that is "topclass" and expects to start in the starting 11 should be playing to replace Gabby and Moore. I wouldn't mind seeing Claus Jensen, he'd fit well into our Scandinavian clik. He's beefy too, and can hold off a good number of top class defenders. (And he's tired of playing long ball with Fulham, and we're starting to play a very pretty short-ground passing match, remember Berger's last goal!) Anyways, I'm outtie, I'd like to know what some of you think of the formation...it certainly works wonders on Fifa07...Villa's in 1st with 70 points, lol. UP THE VILLA- El Avila
  16. I just bought my tickets the other day off of Ebay, $212 USD for a pair of center field, second tier tickets. I bought them off of a season ticket holder, and I got a bargain. Some tickets are going for ridiculous prices, upwards of $400-$1000 for center field seats behind M'ON, etc. There are more available, and plenty of season ticket holders ready and willing to make a few hundred dollars, if I remember the numbers correctly, season tickets at the most expensive $1,700. They turn around and sell the pair for one single game at a price of $1000 and they are starting to profit. I don't exactly agree with it but then again I got tickets. Working on getting tickets to the Columbus match, but they wont go on sell for another 2 weeks according to their ticket office. Cannot wait to see the Villa play at BMO field though, spent $480 on plane tickets and $200 on match tickets, and I won't even be in Toronto for more then 24 hours. Now THAT'S dedication! UP THE VILLA!
