  1. Have all the likes in the world. I find it all the more hilarious that its so obviously insincere.
  2. I think the media give him short shrift. Corbyn isn't given much respect, the narrative is always negative at best if not near mocking, he isn't given a platform at all without some fairly strong critique. The media isn't his friend. Some of that is deserved however. He doesn't engage with the media, whether that is a reaction or a general stance I don't know, some of what he does and says is stupid, and deserves the reaction (or lack of) it gets. But he should be getting a fairer roll of the dice than he does. The problem is, I think, is even he did get that fairer roll, I don't think he'd win many people over, because even his laudable positions on many things aren't winning over the man buying a 4 pack of cheap beer in Walsall this afternoon who's worried about whether his jobs still there at Christmas and his family will be OK this time next year.
  3. 'The Centre' has nothing to do with popularity in the voting public. If that was the case, in the UK at least, the Centre would actually be somewhat Right.
  4. Ready for the movie I've just reread 2 of the more notable Dr Strange stories - Triumph and Torment, and the Oath. Surprised they read so well still. Triumph and Torment is a very short story, 2 issues perhaps when first released, but it's a good small story that puts Dr Strange into the kind of scenario only he fits particularly well - traveling to hell to rescue a soul from Mephisto. It's also fun reading it knowing Mike Mignola drew it, knowing he went on to do Hellboy and you can see elements of that comic in his designs. A very short story but fun. The Oath is a longer read and probably does a little more for the character, despite largely avoiding the stuff he's most known for (fighting astral projections and dimension hopping). The story concerns Strange discovering a mystical cure for cancer following his right hand man Wong being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. The recurring theme is oaths, their importance and how they can define and control a person's actions, and for what is a very small story it has clever moments and interesting turns. You could read it in an hour but it's worthwhile. The only thing i don't really like is the art. Marcos Martin has a very classic comic poster style I don't like somehow, and he draws Strange too obviously as Vincent Price which I find bizarrely irritating. There's always elements of Price in Strange but the closer they get to him the more off putting it is. Worth a read if interested in the character before the movie. You could read both in an afternoon with time to spare. Season One is also recommended but haven't personally read it to comment. I should add that for some reason Strange comics have a habit of reiterating his origin, either in passing or out and out replaying it, which can be irritating. He's a character completely defined by his origin in many ways which makes the constant referring back to it really annoying.
  5. Because it's been fairly clear that you are a pretty staunch Tory for some time. If you had to push most off topic posters into a bin of Labour or Tory to sort the site you'd be one of the first to put in the Tory bin. I just thought it was funny anyone would think you'd ever support Labour. Anyway, back on topic... Corbyn in again. I give it a fortnight at most before the knives are back out. Any bets on the next leadership push? Will it follow inevitable failure on a grand stage, some horrendous scandal which I'm sure someone is digging for right now, or will they just get the pitchforks and flaming torches out to march on Islington North?
  6. I think.....I see what you.....may have done there.....perhaps.

    That Bradley Wiggins, eh?
  8. The Use of Weapons is usually regarded as the best. I also particularly like Excession, but that's not one you'd start with. I actually really disliked that book to begin with as a lot of it plays like a joke you're not in on until you've read a few more. There's also another good one but saying its a Culture novel is pretty much a spoiler. Or maybe not...
  9. The word removed who broke down on the A34 tonight at rush hour in the worst possible place causing delays all the way into the city centre
  10. Good Omens. Guards! Guards! (Hopefully starting a Discworld Cinematic Universe that ultimately gives us adaptations of Night Watch, Reaper Man and Pyramids. And all the others.) Perdido Street Station. A Warren Ellis inspired Moon Knight. Captain Britain The Carpet People. Anything from Iain M Banks Culture series. Transition. A big screen version of the Crow Road. The Wasp Factory The Invisibles
  11. The Beach Boys song Never Learn Not to Love is a reworked (/stolen) version of a song by Charles Manson (yes that one), called Cease to Exist. I knew there was the infamous connection with Dennis Wilson but never realised they actually took one of his songs.
  12. I think most people would believe there's more to a relationship than a warm hole on demand.
  13. Promotion? Pfft. As for turning points, I think I've lost count of the number of games that 'will be a turning point of only we win'. Never happens.
  14. A special should and shouldn't today. The water system in this house absolutely should **** me off. After months of an intermittent leak caused variously by a bad ball valve, leaking overflow, misaligned ball valve and everything in between, I've had to keep resetting the immersion heater every night or get no hot shower in the morning. Finally (touch wood) fixed the leak and now the hot water is just kaput. Nothing gets it working. What shouldn't piss me off is I know someone who will look at it for me and has had a look 4 or 5 times on and off over the last 2 years, and I know it's not the biggest job in the world, but I hate asking. I know he doesn't want to do it and he won't accept money, so I kinda get caught between just not asking, or asking and being beholden to his timescale because he doesn't want to do it and isn't getting anything for doing it so why rush? Drives me mad. But right now I've got a stack of washing up to do and I don't think I can bare boiling the kettle 12 times to do some plates and cups. Notwithstanding my hair is a state and I probably smell like a hobo given the rapid fire 6am cold showers this week aren't exactly conducive to the deep clean experience you'd prefer from a good shower.
  15. Thanks. It's certainly crossed my mind a fair bit. I can see some similarities with you there. I'll try to see someone about it.
  16. Watching The Night Of. Did HBO go out of their way to get women with exceedingly irritating accents and mannerisms in supporting roles? The prosecutor and defence attorney hurt my brain every time they appear on screen and open their mouths.
  17. None of it is in even the same stratosphere as the original. A lot of is rubbish. High point is the Dr Manhattan stuff, which is decent, followed by Nite Owl (conveniently packaged together in the trade). Rest is weak to outright poor. I wouldn't bother.
  18. I'm sure this is me being absolutely mad but I remember thinking when we got first linked to de Laet I was sure he was known for getting injured a fair bit. I've no idea if that's the case but hearing he was out for the season instantly reminded me of it.
  19. Just completed Old Man Logan, the original Mark Millar run. Odd read. It's very obviously the result of Millar going 'wouldn't be interesting if we did a story about a post apocalyptic world where all the heroes are dead except Wolverine?' and just bodging a story around it. It's only about 7 issues long and the whole thing plays like 6 issues of set up and one issue of blow out. I think they hoped this builds tension but it doesn't because you know exactly where it's going. There's a couple of surprises, some clever stuff, but it's not great. Fun though at times and I can't help thinking Millar knew exactly how silly some of it is.
  20. Remarkably they even ruin her presence in the movie by having her wear a dreadful wig due to the reshoots the studio did to 'fix' the film.
