I meant hands on coach sorry. Not old school 'manager'. Someone who can shape a team and we aren't vulnerable if members of the backroom decide to leave.
Do you think we'd have hired him if it was Kenny Miller or Kris Boyd who had managed Rangers for three seasons? He wouldn't have even got a phone call.
He's here on reputation as a player and the CEO's love of that player. It's a very old school appointment, jobs for the boys stuff. Thought we'd moved past that as a club.
We'll get better next season as we're going to spend a lot of money. I hope the improvement is so stark we aren't left wondering if we're underachieving.
I really disagree. I honestly think we’ve made a very forward thinking appointment. How do you know he’s not a “hands-on” coach? I believe he is and some of the limited training videos we’ve seen show this. Why would he be vulnerable if someone like Beale left? His contacts in the game will mean he’ll just get someone else in.
No we wouldn’t have taken Miller or Boyd because I’ve already answered the question in that we’ve gambled on a elite player becoming an elite manager. Obviously what Purslow has seen from afar suggested to him that Gerrard was doing very well in his early managerial career and worth the gamble. Any manager bought in would be a gamble and sadly we weren’t in a position last year to bring in a Conte but we might in a couple of seasons time.

We have gone out and obtained a really good up and coming coach! A little patience and you’ll see next season.
To add, some of you are acting like Purslow has bought in some two bit chancer off the street. Honestly, it’s ridiculous. -

Why not get a really good up and coming coach? They have a far better chance of developing into a top manager than someone who was a good player.

We’ve gambled on an elite player becoming an elite manager. I understand why we’ve done this because of where we were last October time.
Just hope the gamble pays off. Gerrard certainly strikes me as the type that’ll give it everything in his power to succeed though.

Can’t help but love him. Yes, he makes the odd mistake but so does every defender.
Totally infectious attitude, which is great for the squad.

I’ll certainly be watching the new Top Gun movie, with low expectations.
However, i’m quite taken a back by Tom Cruises face recently. He always looked exceptionally well for his age but it seems like all the work he’s had done is all expiring at the same time and it’s falling apart.
Give Cruise another 12 months…..- 2

Think Gerrard will be quite ruthless this summer, one or two shock departures and certainly some exciting incoming players.
Our weak underbelly (central midfield) will be much improved and a few further tweaks to the side/squad, will see much improved results.
I’m honestly optimistic. There’s signs of a really good side coming together.

Hope these go down on Sunday but I really won’t miss Burnley if they go instead.

If we think back to when J Ramsey started making appearances in the first team, a lot on here (probably myself included) we’re saying the exact same comments.
“Can’t see him making it, doesn’t impress me, what does he offer, etc etc”.
Chuk is 18 and if he stays will be a lot stronger mentally and physically next season. I honestly wouldn’t judge his ability to perform just yet.

How did Everton beat Man U, Chelsea and Leicester recently I’ll never know? They’re are terrible.
-
Burnley a bag of nerves.

There is never a game where I’d be happy Villa losing just so it helps someone else. If we beat Burnley tonight and they go down at the weekend, then so be it.
I’d rather Leeds or Everton go but hey ho.

You don’t think that could also just be him trying to light a fire under Mings ass?

I could see it happening. It would be strength in depth but would he be an improvement?
I don’t think he would be an upgrade on Konsa or Chambers from what I’ve seen but Gerrard has worked with him, so he’ll know better than most if he’s worth it. -
Don’t be surprised if we take Connor Goldson on a free this summer. With Konsa injured until September, no one will take him and that only leaves us with Chambers as right CB.
We may put a lot of our money into sorting the midfield, so wouldn’t rule this one out as an option.
Connor is a local lad and is desperate to return closer to the Midlands. I see his dad occasionally and several Midlands clubs have shown interest in him previously.

What an absolute roller coaster of a season, some good moments but by and large many disappointing moments. Can’t really see us getting anything at all from this game but if their nerves kick in, especially if Liverpool are leading, then you never know.
Keeper and back four picks itself, McGinn and Luiz nailed to start. Does he go with Nakamba or Ramsey as his third midfielder? I’ve gone with Nakamba but he may play Luiz deeper and start with Ramsey. Coutinho will start behind Ings and Watkins I reckon.
Martinez
Cash Chambers Mings Digne
Nakamba
McGinn Luiz
Coutinho
Ings Watkins
Subs: Olsen, Feeney, Young, Iroegbunam, Sanson, J Ramsey, Chuk, Buendia, Traore.
Going to say a 3-1 defeat. Guard of honour by the Villa players at the end and pictures of Grealish grinning from ear to ear. Oh well, perhaps next season we’ll have a few more enjoyable games.
