  1. Gerrard hasn’t come here with a five year plan but with the intention of success within the next 2/3 seasons.  All of our first team eleven are under 30, with only Ashley Young in the squad over this. We do lack experience.

If he wants some senior pro’s in right now, I’d have no problem it as long as we don’t do any “Shay Given” type contracts. Under this regime I don’t think we will. Digne would be a fine addition.

Started it last night, the first episode was ok but did fear it would fall away as most BBC seem to. The Fall had a good start but the end was a complete farce, like a group of 8 year old kids had written it.

I’ve given up with it now. Got to the end of episode 3 and can’t be bothered with the rest.

  3. I think he should stay with us now and play some U23 games for the rest of the season.

Then sit down with him in the summer and decide whether a new loan is best for his development.

  4. Anyone think this guy will be ready to challenge Cash next season or will he need another season out on loan (Championship perhaps)?  We obviously think a lot of him to give him a 5 year contract.

We do need competition for Targett but also someone that can upgrade us in the position.

Owen Wijndal would probably do that immediately. Aaron Hickey or Borna Sosa possibly but I haven’t seen enough of them to really know?

In addition to the above, there is also Antonee Robinson? Pretty sure he’s good enough to challenge Targett.

With Axel going/gone, then surely we need an additional CB this window. The Connor Goldson links will no doubt ramp up now. Question marks about whether he could step up though but Gerrard replied on him a lot at Rangers and he is a local lad.

In the Championship right now there is also Tosin Adarabioyo, Ben Cabango, Chris Mepham, Lloyd Kelly and Harry Soutter, although Soutter is recovering from a bad injury at present. Any of these guys would settle quickly into the squad though.

I do think the football under Gerrard has been very conservative even though not easiest fixtures. Its a bit Rafaesque

I agree but after five consecutive defeats, he needed to stop the rot and steady the ship. By and large he’s done that.

We do need to be more expansive though. Our final ball is largely appalling.

  7. Being a Black Country fella, I’ve had many an orange chip. I still eat battered chips occasionally because the kids like the novelty when having a chippy tea but quite honestly I prefer a regular chip shop chip. Nicer to eat with a cod or a kebab.

If just out the fryer, battered chips can be swimming in grease.

  8. With Tuanzebe likely to be moving on next week, I wonder if Gerrard will look to take Connor Goldson as a short term option to cover Konsa?

He’s a local boy and desperate to be closer to his family. I’ve spoken to his father a couple of times in the past when he was linked with Wolves and West Brom.  Not sure if he’s really good enough but could be a short term squad option.

  9. Happy New Year to all on VT. Take care and stay safe.

Never thought I’d find thread’s discussing things like gravy so interesting 😄 but it what makes this distinguished discussion group so likeable.

In addition, I don’t think any thread is worthy if it doesn’t contain at least one of these:

Phillips out until March, not his biggest fan but its not good for them

Massive blow for them, as he’s basically the glue that holds that team together. If they do sell Raphinha in January, they could be in trouble.

When Ferran Torres wanted to leave, pep said that City never stand in the way of a player if he wants out.

I don’t know how true that is, but it would be very interesting if Grealish wanted to leave at the end of the season. I don’t know Jack and if it’s purely money that floats his boat then he’ll stay, but I could potentially see part of him wanting to come back and play for Villa sooner rather than later.

If there is a deal to be done, I wonder if we’d be interested?

Humble pie with Purslow? Would Gerrard take him?  I’m not sure.

Personally, I think we as a club are done with Jack for now and I can’t see there being a deal to be done next summer.
