  1. The show you are thinking of I think is The Detectives, a comedy with Jasper Carrot and Robert Powell. Carrot is a Big Bluenose and he wrote the script, hence slagging the Villa. Robert Powell played a Manc, supporting Man Ure. It was a comedy after all. My story,it's in the genes, Dad supported them,so it was inevitable.
  2. I never saw him play, except for the Villa All Stars back in the day. He'd moved on the season I first I started going.
  3. Oscar never played, but I think Hector, his brother did.
  4. Didn't renew last season. Just didn't enjoy the Houlier season at all. Sell Young and Downing, lose Walker gain Mcleish I knew I wouldn't enjoy the season ahead so after 20 years of having season tickets, didn't go once. Very unlikely to get another for the season ahead unless Randy starts delivering on the vision he sold me.
  5. Very much this. But... OGS HAS NOT TAKEN THE JOB YET. Doesn't matter if Solskjaer gets the job or someone else does, for me KMAC has to go along with some others at the club and it pains me to say it but that includes sid. And while you're at it Sid, take the Lion off the crest with you as you leave....
  6. What an excellent, balanced article. Didn't think we still had good journalists around.
  7. One of the very few guaranteed a great reception if he returns to VP. Will always remember the "Carlos Cuellar, Villa centre Half" chant booming at out Prague. Thanks Carlos it's been a pleasure.
  8. Lambert has done extremely well with limited resources. Prior to this season I would have wanted a higher profile manager capable of attracting good players from around the world. Our horizons have now changed, so maybe a manager who can inspire lesser quality players to achieve beyond their individual capabilities in an effective team structure is all we realistically attract.
  9. I think he could come good under the next manager, especially if that manager is Roberto Martinez. The Roberto Martinez who turned us down last season and will be manager of a team finishing higher than us? Unlikely
  10. Horrible Horrible news. He's a fighter. Let's hope and pray he recovers.
  11. My experience in the states, most Americans have never heard of the Midlands. I remember one guy asking me if Birmingham was on the coast.
  12. Start of the NFL season. He's always spent most of Sept, Oct and Nov in the states.
  13. Darned sight more than me and probably you unfortunately.
  14. Just asked my daughter's opinion on him. She reckons he's the poor man's Ashley Young. Now I'm even more depressed with the situation.
  15. Like most on this site I've read my fair share of "the next superstar" threads. Unfortunately for every Barry, Gabby, Cahill we get 10 Moore L and S and the likes. Kids with immense potential but who just don't make it at the very very top. I've not seen Jack, so I've no comment on his talent, but what sets the likes of Gareth Barry, Gabby and Gary Cahill apart is not their talent, but their commitment to the profession. Too many kids think they have made it when awarded their first pro contract and start picking up 8 or 10 grand a week. That's the start not the finish. It's the attitude to the game, the desire to learn and progress that sets the special ones apart. Let's face it Barry, Gabby and Cahill weren't the most technically gifted at 17 years of age, but they had desire. If Jack has the talent I hope his family, friends and agents keep his eyes fixed on the ultimate goal. I wish him every success.
