  1. Reminded me a lot of Ramsey today. Taking the ball on the half turn and driving at the defence.

I still don't think he's fit, definitely tires late in the game. Can't wait to see what he achieves.

  2. An unbelievable performance. I don't know how many times he beat both the centre half and right back. They didn't have an answer to him. I really wanted him to score, I also wanted him to be a little less selfish right at the end when we could have had a 4th.

Regardless, he is amazing and a real leader st the front.

could Ezri and Ty be reunited, with Pau as DM.

i think Pau will play at left back in the same way Konsa does at right back. But were all guessing. Nice problem to have I think.

  4. will out conference league run also help us earn more in europe next season. I saw that United took c50m from the champions league this year vs Newcastle taking c25m despite both going out in the group stages. I believe this was all down to co-efficient

And that’s without pens. If he had pens he’d be well clear ahead as the best forward player in the league this year.

i assume you dont remember seeing him take pens 😁

Ive no issue with Pens being included, we dont exclude one yard tap ins. A goal is a goal.

Because now he misses two games instead of one

helped get us a point we might have lost and possibly Unai would have rested him vs Arsenal. This is an easy comment with hindsight

Now that McGinn is back will Unai rest him given he's one yellow away from a 2 match ban and the bookings will be reset after the game?

Why rest him, you are then imposing your own ban?

I probably have to add the caveat again that I really like Tim, I think he's a very promising player with a big future.

Before people start jumping down my throat about writing a player off who's one of our own etc etc

this is how i feel as well, if i ignore the fact that hes young and up against a strong city midfield, i just didnt think he played very well. Positioning not great and didnt think he tried to impose himself. Doesnt mean i dont want him to be a success.

The wall was unforgivable but most of our good breaks started with him.

Agree, the intent was there. Does anyone know where his best position is though, we're using him from the left, I wasn't convinced that he was a left sided player when we signed him

  10. Probably a lesson here that we should trust unia. Lenglet didn't play for half a season and turned a lot of opinions. Now we are seeing the Zaniolo arc. I still don't know what position he's suited to but really enjoying his work rate and attacking intent.

I don’t think Southgate “hates” villa but it’s abundantly clear he has his biases towards the big clubs, impossible not to see if you watched England for the last 6 or 7 years. It’s always the case that players outside the Sky 6 clubs have to do at least twice as much as those who do play for the chosen clubs To get in the squad or start games.

Is this a Southgate thing or an international manager thing? I think England always had a bias to a small number of high achieving clubs and it does make logical sense.

Generally the more successful clubs have better players.

At International football you only get a small amount of time together so players that know each other's game have a benefit.

The high achieving clubs are more likely to play a style that's similar to Englands.

Fair point. I always think the worst when it comes to GS, he'll never make me think otherwise.

tactically i agree, personally i really dont believe any of the BS around bias and team selection. I dont think he hates villa, every message board in the country has a thread where they are astonished that X player has not been selected and believe GS has an agenda.

Personally i think its a tough job, no longer dominated by the best managers in the country and he bases selection on performance, suitability, player personality, flexibility a whole range of things.

I think Ezri and Ollie are both in a great position to be selected for squad that will only have 23 players in it.

I cannot stand Toney as a person so agree completely with you.

It shows how weak/clueless Southgate is though - basing his selections off one-off 90 minute performances instead of being certain of the type of forward he wants to take and making it work.

PS - why does it really matter anyway? Kane will play the full 90 every game unless injured.

an obvious point but it is the media that has suggested Ollie is now out based on one appearance. Not Southgate.

Hes made 10 appearances under Southgate and has been on the periphery of the tournament squads over the last few years.

Safe to say Southgate gives him more of a chance that the narrative suggests

He actually had a pretty consistent run when he first joined, after that first international break between middle of Feb to middle of March he started every game and his minutes were 77, 90, 90 85, 80, 76, 90, 90.

He was never injured under Gerrard.

useful thank you, definitely wasnt my perception.

I thought he was brilliant in that period and i was so pleased when we signed him. hindsight is amazing

    It's mental isn't it?

10 assists, 16 goals was just to have a single chance in a meaningless friendly, and after that, it's over?

to be fair, that is the opinion of the media. I would expect much more consideration from the England leadership. Games are chances and performing certainly will be a big tick in the box. I think Konsa for instance really took a good chance in the week.

Ollie has been around that squad now for a number of meetups, they will know his capabilities and what he adds. Similarly for a 23 man squad, Gareth will probably only take two strikers so it does feel a straight shoot out with Toney.

  16. the unfortunate problem is that Coutinho can just not be relied upon, i dont believe he ever finished 90 minutes for villa. A real shame as he had some unbelievable performances in some of his short cameos.

Maguire? He dropped a total clanger almost leading to a goal

yes, the point was that he can be afforded a bad game, possibly numerous bad games because he has credit in the bank with Southgate.

Probably 80% of the Euro squad is already known by England. Ollie is playing for a small number of remaining positions.

In some ways it may be better for Ollie and Konsa to miss out. No way we win it under this clown and it’s going to be an almighty toxic mess when we do get knocked out to the first decent team we play in the knock out stages.

I dont think its better, both are clearly desperate to play for England, we want them to be able to fulfull their dreams while playing for Villa.

No-one did well,  maybe Bellingham had a decent game but other than that nothing, Foden was well out of the game, Gallagher and Rice were covering the same role. Chillwell was hopeless and McQuire was very lucky Brazil aren't that lethal. Gordon gave it go with no end product or a quality ball into the box.

Our best chances came at corners and free kicks. To expect Ollie, or any striker to create or score in those circumstances is unrealistic.

Ollies a confidence player at he's not going to build his confidence playing for England atm. We look a busted flush and won't get far in the Euros.

Yes, a very poor game for England. Some of the others you mention have the benefit of some strong performances to fall back on. Maguire and Pickford being two of those players.

Ollie is unfortunately in the group that is playing for a place on the plane. I think we can all admit he didnt play his best game largely down to the way England play (and quality of the opposition). I could quite understand why Toney is more suited. Hes probably a bit closer to Kane in style of play.

Ollie is going from a situation where he knows his role in the team inside out, he also knows where the other players around him are going to be in any given situation. He has had every detail meticulously worked through with him and his team mates by a world class coach. Then he finds himself in a situation where a tactically dated coach not at the same level as Emery chucks him into a system that was created for Kane, with other players new to this system playing too, and is expected to instantly score or be called a flop.

Not easy. Needs games and time with the squad before he gets judged but the Great British Press aren't interested in any kind of nuance. They have to sell papers to people who believed the big red bus and all the bullshit about straight bananas 🍌🍌🍌

While all of this is true. This is also the challenge of international football and often why we see static squads even when players are out of form.

You will be playing with players you havent met before.

You may not be playing a style of football you are used to.

You may only get a limited amount of time to make an impact as other players are also waiting in the wings.

Personally i dont think Ollie played well, he didnt get service, he did only get a small chance but its hard to look at that game and say he did well. Id also expect Toney to get a chance mid week.

    It's his 10th cap.

Yep got confused with the villa stay earlier. Still, ten caps is a lot more than you'd think based on the narrative about him never getting selected.
