  1. I can see it now, this image is going to end up being real minus the sponsor, disproving hundreds of posts on here calling it fake. A real pallettegate for the modern era.

I think what we'll end up with will be pretty close to this, and I like it.

    Seen lots of this.

    Not seen much of this?

Have you got CVByrne on mute?

There is absolutely an element who is trying to protect themselves mentally by declaring that the worst case scenario is inevitable.

Personally, i'm betting against us, on Tottenham, and for German sides against English sides in Europe. At least my sportsbet account will be happy if it all goes wrong.

If Arsenal (as rumoured) came in for him in the summer, what would be the minimum price you'd accept?

What's the value of the player with the most goal contributions in the best league in the world? More than what we got for Grealish i'd suggest.

I don't think anyone is paying it.

There's surprisingly little hype about him outside Villa circles. If he played for United or Liverpool you can guarantee he'd be being massively hyped up.

If he was doing exactly what he's doing for us for United or Liverpool, Transfermarkt would value him at €80mil.

Absolutely brilliant bit of scouting to uncover him, could be anything.

Why does everyone make it seem like there is no compromise between out dated ground, " nostalgia " and " Bland Bowl " ?

Yep, this thread is full of the false dichotomy between our ancient and beloved home and the most soulless bowl imaginable.

In fact, we basically already know what a modern version of an Aston Villa stadium might look like, because we've seen the renderings of the proposed North Stand. There's no reason that aesthetic can't be expanded to a whole stadium design.

I think it looks good - as an American football stadium. It isn't a football stadium, and I don't understand why Villa fans want to copy it.

If people in this thread want red brick, then you need to want to stay at Villa Park, because if we move we will not be building out of brick, probably not even putting a brick facia on.

I don't think we want to copy it, it's a very different aesthetic and it's specific to the team that use it. It's just an example of how brickwork or at least a brick facade has been used in a modern stadium. Everton's brand new stadium also has brick elements. It can absolutely be done.

I think they'll want to soften the blow by bringing some of the elements of Villa Park with us, and the brickwork is iconic. I'd also expect the statues of the Lion and William McGregor to be there. They're absolutely not going to build some sort of hypermodern monstrosity like Sofi Stadium or Allegiant Stadium. The brief for those would have been totally different than it would be for a New Villa Park.

People overrate this England squad. The defence and goalkeeper are ok, that's it. For all the talk about the attacking options and world class players England have, yeah so do other teams, and more of them.

This has got to be a wind up.

If they can keep the Victorian red brick aesthetic, as in some of the designs I have seen, I think it would be the best looking modern stadium in the world. I think they were shown as theoretical designs on the Holy Trinity show.

Agree fully, we should be aiming to capture a bit of the aesthetic magic of Villa Park, reimagined in a modern stadium. We'd want to see the brickwork, a massive single tier Holte end, mosaics, the statues.

I know a few people have talked about Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis with it's brick facade. It's not quite the same aesthetic as Villa park but it shows that bricks can be done well on a modern stadium. The new Everton stadium features brickwork as well.

Just saw that Butler has commented on this

Said while they've tried to mask it as a discipline issue.

Truth is Leon was tired of the poor conditions of travel, accomodation, security and has finally refused to pay his own way etc.

Also said he got alot of his injuries due to poor accomodation and multiple circumstances on international duty and so on.

So basically he's refused to play until they get their act together at the JFF

This is sad, similar to what has happened with West Indies cricket over the last 20 years. It just compounds the issue because you lose your most marketable and talented star

  10. The current rules regarding sustainability are decided by and designed entirely to benefit the establish big clubs, and don't actually stop bad owners or clubs going under.

I don't see how a regulator could make things worse than they are currently. What exactly are people afraid of here?

  11. The USA really nailed it when they had the red and white hoops a decade or so ago. It's such an obvious and distinctive look for them and they should have stuck with it. Everything else they've done since is disappointing.

I'm not an american but I feel like bad owners can sit on investments in the American sports and get richer but not earn it. Maybe I am wrong with that assessment?

Not at all! There are owners all over the league who are widely considered to be terrible for their teams but make money hand over fist, the most notorious probably being James Dolan of the New York Knicks.

  13. Gabby has England caps. Sure you can say that his only real asset was pace, but that pace was absolutely blistering to the point where it changed everything about how the defence had to set up and created space for himself and his teammates. It's like arguing that Shaq was only good at basketball because he was enormous.

I think Duran shows signs of being a more well rounded striker, but if he ends up starting almost every game and scoring 50 odd goals over the next 4 seasons as Gabby did at the same stage of his career, we'd all be pretty happy with him.

Or we grow and develop Villa Park?

Villa Park has some undeniable limitations. I'm happy with whatever decision the owners make on the stadium, but if we move on from Villa Park to a New Villa Park, it will be because they think Villa Park as it stands is holding us back from being the best club we can be.
