  1. I was thinking to myself how come the Jaguars and Raiders have been bad for so long. Jaguars, 6 years without a winning record: 2008 2008 NFL AFC South 4th 5 11 0 2009 2009 NFL AFC South 4th 7 9 0 2010 2010 NFL AFC South 2nd 8 8 0 2011 2011 NFL AFC South 3rd 5 11 0 2012 2012 NFL AFC South 4th 2 14 0 2013 2013 NFL AFC South 3rd 4 12 0 The Raiders though, wow, 11 years without a winning record. That takes some doing. 2003 2003 NFL AFC West 3rd 4 12 0 2004 2004 NFL AFC West 4th 5 11 0 2005 2005 NFL AFC West 4th 4 12 0 2006 2006 NFL AFC West 4th 2 14 0 2007 2007 NFL AFC West 4th 4 12 0 2008 2008 NFL AFC West 3rd 5 11 0 2009 2009 NFL AFC West 3rd 5 11 0 2010 2010 NFL AFC West 3rd 8 8 0 2011 2011 NFL AFC West 3rd 8 8 0 2012 2012 NFL AFC West 3rd 4 12 0 2013 2013 NFL AFC West 4th 4 12 0
  2. Good on him I guess. In all honesty, two years of treading water at best, going backwards at worst. His first two years have been characterised by a certain stubbornness, persisting with players and formations that weren't working. Persisting with a coaching staff that were apparently creating problems in the background. We shouldn't forget he's a young manager though and will make mistakes. I really hope (and I suspect) that he has played a part in the the marked shift in philosophy this season, namely signing established premier league players and appointing an assistant in Roy Keane who is most definitely not a 'yes man'. So good for him, I think he is learning and adapting and it's the right thing to do to extend his contract.
  3. The result will be announced at about 7.30am as I understand it which diffuses the chance of riots. If the polls are right though I think the Nats will be fairly happy with a close defeat. They'll have a strong mandate for more devolution and they'll have done a pretty good job at swinging a lot of voters their way. They'll have 'won' in a way as they were so far behind in the polls a few months ago. Plus, they won't have to deal with the cluster-**** of governance issues independence would bring.
  4. The whole thing sets an awful, awful precedent. I have no desire to cheer for wife beaters or child abusers but there is absolutely no way they should be getting disciplined until convicted. If a team wants to release the player because of character concerns (e.g. the Aaron Hernandez case) then that's fine but this business of indefinite suspensions and forcing players into voluntary leave is pretty reprehensible. The NFL is going through a very bizarre period. A mix of being completely reactionary to the press and public opinion and having no bollocks to stand up for basic principles.
  5. Up there with letting 16 year old vote in the WTF was Cameron thinking when he agreed to it I agree it was a spectacularly risky move to allow 16's and 17's to vote on this most important issue as a first experiment in extending democracy. But as a principle, if you can be married and wearing a military uniform and paying taxes, you should be able to vote. I watched some of the BBC three debate with Scottish young people and was truly impressed with the intelligence of the debate and their level of engagement. However, these people were obviously cherry-picked. I saw some late night BBC report that was roaming the streets asking young people for their views and the general consensus was they would vote yes because there would be a big party afterwards.
  6. Amazed! Amazed why. If it is say 49.5% to 50.5% then it would be hard to say either side has won. That kind of result would indicate a deeply divided nation. I would say in such a situation (say less than 1% difference) would call for a re-vote within 10 years.
  7. Is anyone else a little surprised that a higher % isn't required for independence? If it is 50-50 as it very well might be then it seems sensible to have a re-vote rather than let one side win by a few hundred votes. I understand the concept of a referendum but if say 55% was required for independence that would seem to make sense for such a huge change.
  8. 49ers are a dirty team with a gazelle at quarterback
  9. Okay the Jets timeout and the end of the Bucs game redeemed this week. It's amazing with the NFL I've been watching for a decade now and I don't think I've ever seen those two endings before.
  10. How many times do you fall for the play-fake Jacksonville you **** idiots
  11. So the Cowboys v the Titans. You wear dark blue tops with white pants and we'll wear white tops with dark blue pants, That won't look terrible.
  12. So who does everyone like today for betting purposes. I like Miami +1.5 and Atlanta +6.
  13. I'm a bit worried we don't have the squad depth for the Champions League next season.
  14. The Allianz I loved the outside, loved the approach to the stadium from the subway station but on the inside it was kind of meh. A lot of graffiti in the toilets btw. Metlife stadium (the new Giants stadium) was really well designed, felt really modern and kind of corporate but such great viewing angles. In the middle of nowhere really though. The new Wembley stadium, I went to a game in the corporate seating, I love the outside, all the mementos and history on show as you enter. Layout and atmosphere was good. I think I like the new Wembley the most of the three.
  15. So much this. I ended up with Mata, Rooney and Van Persie for their game against Burnley. Had to wildcard now, not giving Man U any more chances to screw my team up.
  16. Arsenal 1-3 Manchester C Chelsea 8-0 Swansea Crystal Palace 0-4 Burnley Southampton 0-0 Newcastle Stoke 2-0 Leicester Sunderland 1-1 Tottenham West Brom Match abandoned - floodlight failure Everton Liverpool 1-2 Aston Villa Manchester U 6-1 QPR Hull 1-0 West Ham
  17. Those running back trades make no sense. Going by the espn pre-season top 300 fantasy rankings (admittedly yahoo scoring is different but still): Eddie Lacy (ranked 7) for Fred Jackson (ranked 84) Ben Tate (ranked 32) for Ronnie Hillman (ranked 210). Someone needs to explain what's going on here.
  18. Looks like a scene from Crank 2 Looks like Matthew McConaughey has shrunk.
  19. So, someone will pick him up next season presumably? Once the attention has died down.
