  1. Santa Cruz for me. Ashton is a good player but has serious fitness issues.
  2. I'd be happy for him to stay. At the end of the day he is a quality player and they don't grow on trees!
  3. If there is a problem now (which there clearly is) let's sort it out now rather than wait until 1st September. We have time but it is running out. Through you General please pass on our strong fears and displeasure at the way our squad size is being managed.
  4. Aston Villa additions to the squad in 2008: Friedel £2m Sidwell £5m Routledge £1.25m Total spent: £8.25m Tottenham Hotspur additions to the squad in 2008 (after starting off with a much much bigger squad in the first place): Gunter £2m Woodgate £8m Hutton £9m Gilberto £2m Modric £16.6m Giovanni Dos Santos £4.6m Gomes £7.8m Bostock £0.7m Bentley £15m Total spent: £65.7m So a team who we are supposed to be competing with has spent over £55m more than us on new players in 2008. Villa fans are a passionate bunch and are certainly not stupid. It's time for some ACTION (not words) because most of us are sick to the back teeth at the lack of depth in the squad. Why don't we show some ambition for a change?
  5. Great result yesterday and Villa Park is looking really good. General a few observations from yesterday's game: (1) I was in the Upper Holte block K4 and at Half Time one of the kiosks (where 100's of people were queueing for) ran out of ALL cold drinks and had very limited amounts of food left. On the plus side they did have tea and coffee left which I'm sure you can appreciate wasn't very useful given the temperatures! From a health and safety point of view surely the club should have cold drinks available (given the hot conditions). Also, the club are losing a lot of income through this as I know lots of people were just getting frustrated and had to go with out. You would think it should be an easy thing for the club to fix but the problem persists. (2) I'd just like to agree with the comments about the PA system and this hasn't improved from last season.
  6. It's the same old spin. Two years into O'Neills management reign and we still have the smallest squad in the division. I think a lot of us are wising up to these "wee" coincidences that see us continually not strengthening the first team squad to an appropriate number. The clocks ticking and we're as ineffective in the transfer market as ever. Not that we should mention something as low on the priority list as our transfer policy (the thing that really matters) to someone on the board of directors (our route to tell you about our feelings about OUR club). Heaven forbid - let's all discuss painting a railway bridge instead!
  7. "Did you see any "action" on the Pitch last year with this "pitifully small squad"?" Yes, we did well last year and 6th place was a great achievement. We were, however, very fortunate that we didn't have worse injuries (say like West Ham did). Add in to the mix that we have lost or are losing 3 first choice players in Carson, Mellberg and Barry and may well be playing another 10+ games in the Uefa I think I llike many other fans are rightly concerned. "Are you serious???????? You want me...or Bob Kain...or Bob Martin to monitor the situation or help MON avoid wasting "another transfer window"?" I want the board as a whole to provide help where it is needed to O'Neill in the transfer process. It's obvious to everyone that we have problems in recruiting players. Let's not just brush this under the carpet. Let's look at what the issues are and look what extra support we can provide O'Neill with to be more successful in transfer windows. "let's see Martin, I think you ought to pick up the phone now and call player X or their agent." I never suggested anything of the sort. I said monitor not advise him on players. "Welcome aboard. I cannot wait to offer my "help" to Martin....and I will give you his reply as soon as I peel him off the ceiling. You are joking aren't you???" What are the board of directors there for if they are not to guide the company in the right direction? Until we make some decent acquisitions I will continue feeling all is not right at the club.
  8. "When I read a post that says that other Clubs are "snapping up players" I have to wonder what League and what Clubs they are talking about." Spurs, Bolton, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City to name a few. All Premiership. "When we are compared to, say the Spurs, over the winter...a snapshot in time" This year - quite a relevant snap shot in reality. I find it remarkable that even though we are in much greater need of players that a rival still obliterates us in the transfer market. " MON is NOT going to go after players that he doesn't need" The point is - he does need them. We have needed extra bodies and wasted the opportunity in January and only purchased one reserve right sided player in Routledge. Someone at board level has to monitor the situation or help MON to ensure we don't waste another transfer window. "just to say he got players or that we, as a Club, spent X amount of pounds. That is crazy!" No one is saying we should spend x amount of £'s just to keep up with the "jones". What we should be doing is strengthening the smallest squad in the premiership rather than talking about it. Actions speak louder than words and we still have a pitifully small squad with even more games coming up next season. Forgive me for thinking we need to do something pretty damn quick to address this!
  9. General, I for one am getting very frustrated with yet another, to now, very poor transfer window from Villa. We are showing absolutely no ambition to get the best players while our rivals snap up the best talent. It's time for some answers with us having such a small squad and yet so little investment in the first team squad relative to teams of even a smaller size to us. Sadly losing faith in the board quite fast. Actions speak louder than words and the only actions we see is O'Neill on BBC while other clubs snap up players. 2008 transfer activity: Villa : £1.25m purchase of Routledge. Net spend £1.25m Spurs: £2m purchase of Guenter, £8m purchase of Woodgate, £9m purchase of Hutton, £2m purchase of Gilberto, £16.6m purchase of Modric, £4.7m purchase of Dos Santos, Gomes £7m, sale of Defoe for £7.5m and Routledge for £1.25m. Net spend 40.55m So one of our rivals have a net spend of around £40m more than us so far this year. Forgive me for thinking we have a few problems and all is not so rosy at Villa Park.
  10. General, I would just like to congratulate you and the board on the special ticket deals the club is doing for the less attractive games like Reading and Blackburn. It has been superb to see the attendances at 38k+ for these two games and I think it is a great way to get fans back in the habit of coming down the Villa. When I went to the Reading home match I only paid £15 for the ticket in the Upper North Stand but spent over £70 in the club shop as a result of being at the game!
  11. Good report - sounds pretty much as I saw it although I would give Gabby a seven as I thought he was a constant threat and caused no end of problems as well as getting an assist.
  12. Hi General Great performance today by the lads - was very pleased with the result! It's my first time on this thread so would just like to congratulate you and the rest of the board for the great work. One thing, however, that is a bit annoying is the errors that are being made by the club on our attendances. Firstly, at home to Derby this season our attendance was reported on the official site as 47k and then amended to 40k the following week. The attendance for the Reading game today was announced as 38k (which looked correct) but has been reported on the official site as 32k (and therefore bbc/sky sports are publishing the lower figure) I am just curious how for the second time in just over 2 months this can happen? (it is a bit embarassing for the club) Very small point though but an easy one to correct hopefully. Anyway brilliant game and up the villa!
  13. Tottenham Hotspur without a doubt. They seem to think they are a super club based on their "domination" in the 1960's. That'll be winning the league title for the second time EVER. Their fans have to be the most delusional! Great we beat the deluded ones 2-1 though
