Hi General, You have said in the past McLeish will be backed financially. However McLeish says that we need to sell some players (reduce wages) before we bring in some new players. Thats all great in theory - balancing the books. However have the club forgotten what a terrible season we had last year and that we flirted with relegation for a good part of it? And that was with players such as Ashley Young, Stuart Downing, Reo Coker, Kyle Walker and additional squad players that have since left. With regard to outfield players why have we just brought in N'Zogbia?? This means we have only replaced one of our quality players when we should be replacing both Ashley and Stuart and buying an additional quality player for good measure. This is all said with last seasons escapades in mind. Surely there must some scope to improve our already small squad? We had major problems last season. This season will probably be worse if you look at our squad in a logical manor! All the best.

Hi General, I feel some sort of club statement would be of great benefit to the the fans and everyone involved with the club. I think the fanbase need reassurance with regard to the forthcoming season. I know Randy doesn't like the limelight and thats fair enough but we need someone to speak for the club. To think its not even a year since MON left... Its been one hell of a tough 12 months for the everyone involved it would be nice to hear some sort off rallying call.

That means we will still be 1 quality player down. Is he oblivious to the fact we lost Young and Downing?? Thats 2 quality players we have lost... Last season our squad was flirting with relegation until Bent arrived. Surely we need to spending all the Young and Downing money??? What happens if we get injuries? What happens if Warnock and Ireland don't come good. What happens if Dunne and Collins have a repeat of last season? Our squad needs serious investment? We have no depth. By the way Im not being negative Im being realistic!!!!

I know N'Zogbia is an attacking midfielder and can play a few different positions.... But can anyone confirm what his best position is? Is he left or right footed or both?

Oh and sign Delph up on a longterm contract its only a matter of time before he turns into a brilliant player!

We will replace Downing like we have all the others. As I have always said if you don't want to play for the Villa, piss off! In fairness to McLeish, he didn't exactly have a wealth of quality players at his disposal to enable him to play good football.

Most players will go where the money is... If McLeish does get the job and Villa improve and move up the table i don't think any new player would have any reservations about joining once the wages are right, team is playing well and the manager seems to be doing well! Money is king followed by Champs league as we all know too well!!

Alex McLeish isn't a bad manager. I don't give a shit that he was Citys manager. I think initally we were all excited about being linked to big names in the manager world! And now we all feel a bit let down (the worlds biggest understatement in the world for some people). For me Im disappointed being linked with McAleish as I still think there were and are better managersstill available e.g Hughes But who knows what tomorrow brings... I'll support the Villa and the new manager whoever it is. At least I'll give the new manager some time to prove himself. Won't be an easy job for whoever it.

With all this talk of Martinez I bet a few people wish they weren't so hard on McClaren. However it is understandable given Jol and Benitez were and are still available.

All my money was on Rafa he seemed like a Randy type of manager, or so I thought. I'm at a loss as to the next manager could possibly be. But we seem to be running out of the obvious options. I would have been more than happy with jol, happy with benitez. Randy may have to interview mcClaren yet... Hopefully Randy pulls out moyes or a nice surprise out of his hat. But it's looking evermore depressing!

All that said I bet you Downing does not sign a new contract.... Downing said "My agent had a recent meeting with our chief executive. However, I am 26, and at a major crossroads in my career, so I won’t be committing to a new deal at the moment. I want to keep playing and enjoying my football. When I was injured that made me realise what it can be like to be out for such a long time. It hurt. The most important thing is to play football, but I do want to play in the Champions League at some point." That all translates as - If I get a the chance to move to a team playing in the Champion League or with a chance of getting in, Im gone. Remember when Ashley Young was saying he wanted to concentrate on his football bla blah blah... Gabby Agbonlahor signed a 5 year contract with no fuss. My point being if a player is happy and wants to play for the club its not a big deal to sign a contract and you don't hear stuff like, I want to concentrate on my football, I want to play in the Champions League, crossroads of my career etc. I would advise everyone to read between the lines when players comment on not signing new contracts.

I don't really care who the player is, if they don't want to play for the Aston Villa Club they can piss off!! How stupid must Downing be, one week he says he would be honoured to sign a new contract and a few weeks later he's not interested in a new contract. Why can't players just say they want to leave and be honest instead of all this bull%&£@. If downing was to say I don't want to sign a new contract until things settle down at the club, I say fair enough. If he just came out and said he has enjoed his time at Villa but feels its time to move on, i say so be it! Downing has one good season at the villa and now he basically said he wants to leave, thanks Stuart.
