I was only young at school, but was at VP in the Holte on this very same day in 1976 - December 15th Aston Villa FC beat Liverpool FC 5 -1! Brilliant game today - proud of the way they defended. Baker, Clark & Herd outstanding. Benteke & Weimann look like they should get wed! Baker was my MOTM - the lad is 20 for goodness sake!

And Bannan was most experienced player on park with 55 appearances against Clark's 50 - both 23 6 Academy graduates started game too.

Fantastic display 4 -1 and have to say Jack Woodward & Ken McNaught did a great job on the O/S Comms. All quality finishes but Benteke's was special - Sky's description of his goal says it all.

Found these interesting comments from Crewe's manager about transfer of Ashley Westwood on AVFC forum who many (including me) thought was a bit of a rush job cos we couldn't get Dale Stephen's off Charlton - He wasn't apparently - Lambert or Villa had been after him for a while it seems Re: Ashley Westwood - progress report "Clubs had monitored Ash for a long period of time. Cancelled each other out both sides playing same system, but Stoke's "anti-football" doesn't make any better viewing - awful! Least we won the football passing battle & at times made them look static and ordinary, which playing the supposed "in form" team in the league ain't bad going IMHO. Ashley Westwood shaded MOTM for me over Mattie Lowton, who is seeing a new freedom under 3-5-2 system to bomb forward. Be interesting to see what Joe Bennett does under this system too, when he can play. Definite progress and you can see a plan coming together under Lambert - just MF hasn't caught on that if you're going to score goals you need to get in the mix guys! ie perhaps the reason why we were after Dempsey, as someone tweeted. Why do so many in the government and the federal officials believe that creating money out of thin air creates wealth? Why do so many accept the deeply flawed principle that government bureaucrats and politicians can protect us from ourselves without totally destroying the principle of liberty? Why can't people understand that war always destroys wealth and liberty? Why is there so little concern for the Executive Order that gives the President authority to establish a "kill list," including American citizens, of those targeted for assassination? Why is patriotism thought to be blind loyalty to the government and the politicians who run it, rather than loyalty to the principles of liberty and support for the people? Real patriotism is a willingness to challenge the government when it's wrong. Why is it is claimed that if people won't or can't take care of their own needs, that people in government can do it for them? Why did we ever give the government a safe haven for initiating violence against the people? Why do some members defend free markets, but not civil liberties? Why do some members defend civil liberties but not free markets? Aren't they the same? Why don't more defend both economic liberty and personal liberty? Why are there not more individuals who seek to intellectually influence others to bring about positive changes than those who seek power to force others to obey their commands? Why does the use of religion to support a social gospel and preemptive wars, both of which requires authoritarians to use violence, or the threat of violence, go unchallenged? Aggression and forced redistribution of wealth has nothing to do with the teachings of the world's great religions. Why do we allow the government and the Federal Reserve to disseminate false information dealing with both economic and foreign policy? Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it's the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? Why should anyone be surprised that Congress has no credibility, since there's such a disconnect between what politicians say and what they do? Meanwhile the toxic, off balance sheet, shadow banking world that bought the whole pack of cards almost completely tumbling down in 2008 - grows ever bigger by the day - unregulated and unchecked....a staggering $67 Trillion - dwarfing the entire global economy... You don't mind moaning - it's a Villa fan's forum after all - but some of it borders on personal abuse & nastiness. Why??!!! Keyboard warriors looking to score points?............ VT used to be full of people posting titbits of what they'd heard.. Lots of fans hear things from B6, mates who have connections at other clubs.. The point is... some who do have good information are now put off and don't post any info on VT - preferring just not to say anything or get in touch with other fans & their mates privately or via tweety thing - because of the abuse they get if what they say isn't signed sealed delivered within a few days/weeks .... You're then accused of fabricating stuff in the first place??!!..Erm Why would you do that?!!!! It's mad... We all know football is dominated by money and agents, why should transfer of players be any different? Hat's off to Lambert for signing players so far who are not your typical MON proven PL player - erm...who've aptly "proven" they couldn't care less TBH - just going through the motions for each pay day as we've seen last couple of seasons. He's bin rumoured from day one. We were hardly going to get Whitts, Snodgrass & Johnson ALL of whom we've been linked with. If the selling club ain't willing to deal at a reasonable price or the player wants too much in wages Lambert will just move onto the next target and tell them to jog on. Or...just perhaps....you've been sold a dud and you aren't as ITK as you think. You know I watched the video with Petrov getting upset yesterday and I thought isn't it lovely to support such a well respected, caring club in this money driven, corrupt world. And then you find out that that same club have not only told Petrov he remains club captain but that he'll have a role at the club whatever happens. Such is the manner in which Aston Villa FC conduct themselves. And then I come on here and read vitriole aimed at me because people haven't got the RB they were wanting because it would seem of what else but money and not very nice ways of doing business has been not tolerated by that same club that I support. And that Lambert won't be held to ransom over fees or wages over any target. Nice!
