  1. Would be nice to see the position added to the commentary. i.e. Last year in 14th this year in 5th each week...
  2. 1-0 at Goodison with a debut goal by Sutton! Bet if you asked anyone if they thought a) Sutton could play Villa and be in 4th spot this time last year, you would have been told you were completely drunk
  3. The all time record of Villa being unbeaten is 18 and 12 in the modern era, put your hearts and souls into it and both records could fall! 5 draws in 7 games and yet to win away in the prem..... we are due a win especially at the Kop
  4. 1 win and 4 losses better than last year, 2 temporary signings in Sutton & Agathe (like Loans) with a player or two to come in January maybe, that top 8 is looking pretty safe Still got that feeling that somehow MO'N and the chargers will remain unbeaten in the Prem for a few weeks yet. We have statistics in our favour being the "ONLY" unbeaten team at this point in all 4 divisions! Usually there are a couple in each div at this point in time, so I smell our 1st. away win of the season, now that would be a monkey off the back. We can all keep the fingers crossed Cheers...
  5. Villa was there at the start of it all as a result of some pioneers from the midlands. Why there isn't a National memorial somewhere and not least at Villa Park is beyond me. Only four English clubs have won the European Cup to date and Villa happens to be one of them! Despite this fact I agree with John, why isn't there something more than just old history books? Living in the past is utter bullshit, the game of football in the UK is there not because of Man U or Chelsea or Liverpool or Arsenal. The League is what it is today as a result of the work by McGregor, Ramsay and Co. Man U didn't become the club it is like Villa has, it was made famous by a tragic event. Think about it, Chelski, Liverpool and Man U are generally disliked by everyone except their supporters. The same can't be said for Villa & Everton or Preston & Wolves. Some trivia from the Wiki: And guess what a new era is now beginning for this great Club so the stats will keep growing. More League Cups and more FA cups. More Premierships, more goals and more International players. Living in the past my ass... heres looking to the future and building on a great tradition. Villa Players should know what they are representing when they put the Claret & Blue on. Maybe a few Statues on the way to the hollowed ground might remind them who they are playing for.
  6. If the last 3 managers can rescue Villa from positions just outside the relegation zone under Ellis, and MO'N has the funds in Jan then Yes one can safely say they will finish 8th or higher. MO'N has a track record of astute signings, so the injury & suspension concerns are mitigated (I'll bet there will be a few choice Loan deals between now and Christmas as well).
  7. Any chance of viewing the past 3 managers first season comparisons? For me that is a better comparison because all players liven up and want to impress the new gaffer when they arrive. John Gregory's 1st year - 7th place (took over when they were 15th) Graham Taylor's 1st year - 8th place (previous year 8th took over when they were 14th) David O'Leary's 1st year - 6th place (previous year 16th) In 1995-96 under Brian Little, Villa won the League Cup, reached the FA Cup semi finals and finished "4th" in the Premiership under Ellis! after an 18th place finish the year before....... (Now there is a comparison check!) One can safely say that MO'N will finish the year 8th or better in his first season in charge, so to see how he is really performing his stats should be compared against the 1st year period not the last period before the other manager is axed? The excitement of the new gaffer can put things out of perspective. Don't know if you were in Rotterdam in '82 because Ron Saunders is going to take some topping... but I believe MO'N can.... .....
