I must say transfer windows have become more boring as ive gotten older and don’t really know any of the talent around the world anymore. I hadn’t heard of any player Emery has signed other than Tielemans.

Titled changed. Unlike Chris Heck, I listen to the Villa fans. I am tempted to add a star to the title.

I’ve been listening to a podcast called Real Dictators and they were talking briefly about Gavrilo Princip. If you don’t know who that is, he is the guy that shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand which is broadly accepted as the match that lit World War I. Granted everyone was looking for an excuse to kill the each other anyway, but it just occurred to me that the man that arguably triggered one of the deadliest conflicts in human history just isn’t a known name. Because there’s a break in Villa football and winter is boring, I was wondering what snippets people can offer up as people who are significant / ought on paper to be really well known by name but just aren’t. edit: title amended due to controversy and furious anger

If real, this badge is lovely. If it’s fake, may its creator live out their days with the fleas of a thousand camels in their armpits.

I like this Balaban fella’s redesign but I don’t see how this can be a “leak” tbh. Why wouldn’t we trademark what we are going to have but instead some random mock up? I don’t buy this recycling an old lion stuff either. It really isn’t hard to register a trademark - why wouldn’t they register what the badge is going to be? As someone mentioned as well, the lion is far too detailed. I’m not sure there’s a single badge you could find with that level of intricate detail, and for good reason (scaling, digital use and other reproduction). I suspect this guy has successfully led everyone on.

Very nice. But also no reason to believe this is legit? It simply isn’t the one copyrighted so why would we think this is it.

Nothing will happen to them. And then it’ll be forgotten.

There must be a large number who have completed military service? For some reason Stiliyan Petrov sprang to mind but seems I’ve misremembered something.

I’m not talking about it being an aspiration. Frankly I wouldn’t want a Villa documentary as I think it’s everything wrong with football - I.e. it’s all becoming a soap opera. being interesting isn’t the same as being something aspirational. I just don’t think there’s anything objectively interesting happening at Villa. Why would Sunderland or Leeds fan tune into a documentary about Villa? also to clarify I’m not trying to shit on Villa here, I’m just thinking from the perspective of other fans. We all know fans of all different clubs - how many do you know that care about Villa?

In what way?

I should probably add context to this given the response. I think we have done phenomenally well and I love the squad and what they’ve achieved. What separates us from the big guns (Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City) who we have been ‘mixing’ with is we are not used to playing teams who play 11 behind the ball and kick the shit out of us. The big boys deal with it season after season and know how to deal with it. We don’t. We can easily go toe to toe with top teams, but when we get ‘Dyched’ we don’t really have a response. We get frustrated, lose our structure, lose our discipline and just can’t break through. We aren’t used to being treated as a quality team. I think that’s why earlier in the season we pulled Everton apart. People are wising to the fact we are actually a good team and it might actually be better to just contain us and get a point or a smash and grab.

Viewing this as objectively as possible, I don’t think most fans give a toss about Villa. We are akin to West Ham/Everton/Crystal Palace in the ‘making up the numbers’ party. Our ownership doesn’t generate interest like Wrexham or Newcastle. We haven’t done anything outstanding on the field (yet). If we can hold onto top 4 I think it’s possible people take more of an interest. I think it’d take top 3 for there to be a significant response.

Very wasteful today

Yup. A RB has to be a priority. Especially when you look at how dangerous we are down the left with Digne/Alex Moreno. We need that down the right.

This failure to break down these bottom sides will cost us. Lack of discipline, not holding position and losing concentration, getting wound up and drawn into their shite and no cutting edge. I don’t blame Emery, we just don’t have the players required right now. That’s the next step it seems because we can easily break down Tottenham but not Sheffield United

So happy to have him back
-
Offers nothing but shouting and anger. Let him go.
-
Absolutely gone off a cliff since he first joined. Expect he will be another Bailey though and is going to take a good year to get going
-
Absolutely desperately want him back
-
Our time mixing with the big guns is coming to an end. We just cannot break down teams that play like this.
