  1. So, let me see if I understand. Swansea who finished 11th last year "will be found out big time next season" Norwich however who finished 12th "are set up to become an established Premier League team" As for the history - you can only manage the team you have - Rodgers managed his team better than Lambert managed his last season, hence the league position - remember these teams were competing a league lower the year before when Norwich were the better side by 4 points. My point here is that Rodgers' has improved his team more than Lambert has managed to - this is now at the top level of English football. Hence my opinion (backed up with rudimentary stats) that Rodgers is a better Premiership Manager than Lambert.
  2. Please explain to us uninitiated how exactly you came to the conclusion that Lambert is "far superior" to Rodgers. fwiw. I think the style of football played by Rodgers' teams coupled with his history working under Mourinho makes him certainly on a par with Lambert but you obviously have other information that the rest of us are missing.
  3. I would be very disappointed if we appointed RDM. Yes he has done very well at Chelsea, but why do you think they do not want to keep him on or why did WBA sack him? I know a number of Albion season ticket holders who do not rate him. I also know quite a number of Baggies ST holders and they, to a man, were delighted to get rid of RDM - seen as a joke Manager and not just by the fans, the players didn't rate him either. RDM had success at Chelsea for who he wasn't, not for who he was. They hated AVB with a passion at Chelsea - that is evidenced by many of the comments made in subsequent interviews with players - where he is often referred to as "the other guy". Anybody who took that role on would have been more successful than AVB, especially someone who only a few years ago was playing with half the players and has such a history with the club. Cheslea rode their luck in both the Semi and the Final of the CL but, fair play to them, they won it. Now look at their league form........ But for a missed penalty they would not have even been playing CL football next season. RDM - not for me thanks.
  4. [quote="SikhInTrinity Leeds in the Playoff's they should have been bloody promoted the first time he got there. I worked in Huddersfield, used to go and watch Leeds as Bannan was there, trust me it was bloody hoofball. Dreadful manager if appointed, nice chap as he used to play for us, but AM was also decent, I'm sick of these decent chaps, just want a decent manager. Can you please stop saying Div1, no matter how NPower have re-branded the leagues, it is DIV 2 in my book.
  5. I only know a couple of Leeds fans, both of whom were gutted when he left. Look at Huddersfield - they sacked Lee Clark just to get Grayson installed. To finish Fourth in Div 1 this esason, with Charlton and both Sheffield clubs above you is a great achievement given the lack of money available, couple this with a Wembley date this weekend and he could be continuing to build on his (already strong) reputation. To all the people chasing AVB - I suspect you all expected Ancellotti last year as well. Face reality - we ARE NOT the draw that we used to be, we are a mid table side at best (in our current state), the sooner people realise this the better - it bloody pains me to type it but we really have to get real. Simon Grayson was SACKED! The football he played was dreadful already had a Leeds fan predicting relegation for us when he's employed! In his three full seasons at Leeds he finished in the Div 1 playoffs, got promoted, then finished 7th in the Championship. When he was sacked Leeds were within spitting distance of the playoffs. Grayson was SACKED (as you seem to think this needs to exagerated) because he spoke out about the boards lack of financial backing. Leeds moved quickly because of the availability of Neil Warnock - and a fat lot of good that did them!! The football at leeds under Grayson was far from dreadful - not sure where you get that from - still, if it suits your opinion eh!

  7. Whilst not wishing to seem like a doom-monger, I also suspect that RDM will become our next manager. He was a disaster at the Baggies - ask any ST holder and they will agree, they were glad to see the back of him, thought of as a bit of a joke by both players and fans apparently. He succeeded with Chelsea more because of who he wasn't (AVB). The level at which AVB was detested at Chelsea was unparalelled, any change of Manager, especially to someone still held dear by the players (most of whom have played with him) would have seen an upsurge in fortunes at the Bridge. To be honest, they were lucky to get past Barca and as lucky to beat Bayern, but, credit to them, they did a job and won the CL, but look at their league form... One saved penalty away from no CL football at Stamford Bridge - yeah that would have gone down well. RDM - not for me, I would rather have Simon Grayson, a talented young Manager and worthy of a chance - just my opinion before people start slating him.
  8. commolli? the guy who negotiated 35 mill for Carroll? the guy who gave us 20mill for Downing? what has he ever done to justify appearing on peoples wish lists?? Modric and Bale for Spurs are two that spring to mind. And Carroll for £35M might just turn out to be a good bit of business, he WILL come good, of that I have no doubt - a far better all round footballer than Bent, that's for sure. And when you couple him with Suarez, they make a decent swap for Torres, which, after all is what the deal worked out as. I would welcome Comolli with open arms, probably just what we need, someone on the Senior Management team of the club that actually knows something about the game.
  9. As a matter of interest, I wonder who exactly RL and PF will use as "advisors". Are there such people - professional management advisors? or would they just do what they seemed to do last year and seek the council of the almighty Fergie - the same Fergie that sold us the Djemba twins for heaven knows how much money. I do hope the first thing we do is offer the DF role to someone like Comolli and take things from there. At least that way we have someone who knows the game able to chip in at management meetings.
  10. Paulo Di Canio - had a fantastic year at Swindon, and most importantly, probably wouldn't cost us much - we all know RL will not want to pay megabucks compensation AGAIN!! I know an awful lot of Swindon fans (used to live near there) and they adore DiCanio, they realise he will almost certainly go to a premiership team this summer - I just hope its us.
  11. Apologies for reposting this message that I initially post a few weeks ago - it just seems so relevant in this topic. I have supported Villa since the 1970's, I have travelled across Europe watching them, I spent a few years in the corporate clouds, with my company taking a box in the Trinity when it first reopened. I used to travel to every away game until the requirement to be close to home meant I was then limited to just home games. Following my sojourn in the Trinity , I have held a season ticket, Doug Lower, 10 rows from the front with a foot in either half - quite the most stunning views. Next season I will not renew. This is not a decision I have made lightly, I have agonised long and hard but the long and short is that I am just not enjoying life under Big Eck, I dont like the football, the apparent lack of tactical nous, the (almost toxic) atmosphere at the ground. I dont see any light at the end of this tunnel either, even if AMC goes, will not the new encumbent suffer the same financial constraints. We kid ourselves that "the future is bright", that the kids will come through and take us to the next level but I just dont see it, Delfoneso, Bannan, Clark, Albrighton, Baker, Gardner, Delph - all have been disappointing this season to one degree or another. Our "established" professionals have all flattered to deceive this season, Bent, a luxury we can ill afford. Gabby, a shadow of the player he was. Ireland, disgraceful attitude, likewise Zoggy. Hutton and Warnock - nuff said about them!! We need the biggest overhaul of a squad than I can ever remember and we need to do it cost neutral if reports are to believed (and the evidence would tend to support this idea, just look at January!!). I think things may get a lot worse before they get any better and am sorry to say that I have no faith in the current regime putting things right. No doubt I will support from afar next year - you can never stop supporting your team, but I am afraid my money will be spent elsewhere. A point against Liverpool was lovely but will just paper over the cracks - the die is set - we are in decline!!!!
  12. Teams don't sell players and then continue to pay their wages, no. They do. I remember hearing (on the BBC I think) that Ginola whilst at Everton was still having part of his salary paid by us and part still being paid by Spurs.
  13. I believe it's possible. Like I say, my hunch would be that McLeish will stay. Nobody can say 100% that he will be staying at this stage. You can 100% believe he will stay, but it is no 100% nailed on to happen. I can see that Randy et al have "absolute" faith on AMC - just as they had "absolute" faith in MON. At what point that faith is properly tested I do not know. I have a suspicion that a severe drop off in ST sales might have quite a bearing on the strength of said faith. The ludicrous decision to increase the price if you do not commit early enough could potentially backfire on the club. Yes, those with blind faith/extreme optomism will renew and fair play to them but I suspect an awful lot of ST holders will wait and see what happens during the summer before commiting/walking away. If we were to lose say 7000 ST holders, this would amount to a potential shortfall in club funds of about £3M - this would surely make RL wake up and smell the coffee?
  14. Definately one of the funniest things I've read on here.

  16. I know a couple of Fulham ST holders, both of whom are absolutely convinced that Bent's replacement at Villa will be Zamora. Not ITK's but they tell me that there is an awful lot of "terrace talk" surrounding this at present. watch this space I guess!!
  17. Thats nice, I hope Lamp loves you too.
  18. Says who exactly? Why oh why do put this drivel up here when it is patently not true. How would anybody (bar RL himself) know who his first choice last year was? It is not as though Randy shares his thoughts with the local press every week is it?
  19. This is the same SSN who claimed yesterday that we "had interviewed Martinez and he had 24 hours to decide if he wanted to take the post of Villa Manager" Who's the mugs now. Seriously though, this is part of the problem with any rolling news outlet, they just have to keep coming up with new angles to keep people watching (which in turn attracts advertisers, etc etc.)
  20. Question. Do we know who RL and PF have ACTUALLY spoken with? Where did the Rafa quotes emanate from? - not from Villa. Where have we seen a quote from Carlo? - apart from a second rate Italian redtop. There are way too many people jumping up and down getting excited about not very much at present. Ok, we are not going to talk with Martinez, that much we know is fact because the official site tells us. What else does the official site tell us? not a lot is the answer. I think everybody needs to calm down a bit, have some faith in Randy - he will not be rushed, he knows how important this signing will be and at the end of the day, he is footing the bill!!
  21. I think the statement makes it clear that the media knows **** all. Martinez chose job security over interviewing for a position he probably wouldn't get anyway Borrowed frrom another poster on another site but pretty much sums up the Martinez situation.
  22. MysteryMan over on H&V now saying that Meltdown Man was David Moyes. Shame, I really really wanted Carlo
  23. Damn it, the mighty Preston North End have beaten us to him. Oh well, I guess that Carlo will have to do
  24. Oddschecker tells you everything. The odds on McLaren worry me. The odds here will telll you nothing. At this stage during our last managerial hunt Houlier was 66/1 - same as Mourinho is now. (and No, I am not saying we will get Mourinho)
