  1. I'll ask again cos no-one who wants the see the back of MON seems to have an answer. Who should be brought in? Who is available who would realistically come to Villa and do better than MON has done? I have always been behind the manager, but I am started to wonder whether Big Sam, Alan Curbishley or even the dreaded DOL would have done any worse than 6th and a dreadful cup record if they were allowed to spend the amount of money MON has?
  2. General I am a Villa season ticket holder - that's all. I do not have any ITK knowledge - I know what I am told by you on here, and what I read in the press. Therefore, I have no idea who is to blame in what proportion for the Barry mess, the transfer mess, the state of the squad at this key stage etc. All I know is that it has been a long time since I have felt so negative about the start of a Villa season, and surely that shouldn't be the case?
  3. Hi General I am sure your patience is wearing thin, and we know you have nothing to do with transfers, but you are our only link to the higher echelons at Villa Park. I hope you understand why many fans are in a dilemna now. Most (me included) are delighted with the progress we have made over the last 2 years and signings such as NRC, Carew, Davies, Petrov, Young, Sidwell etc. are exactly the kind we want to see. However, the lack of movement in the January window and the current one have become a serious concern to me, especially given the amount of players shipped out. I didn't have a problem with the increases in season tickets, mainly on the basis that you stated on these forums that if we wanted to buy players and pay bigger wages, it had to come from somewhere. Given the size of the squad and the lack of "superstars", our wage bill must be one of the lowest in the division. I don't think we have yet had a clear answer on whether we are operating under a wage structure, and whether this is restrictive in the players we are trying to sign? It is clear there are players we have identified as targets, and we are unclear on the reasons why we have not signed them (Gordon, Bentley etc.). Is it down to the wage structure? I appreciate totally what you are saying about micro managing MON, but how much longer will the situation be allowed to continue? To see a team identify a weakness in our formation (our entire right side) and exploit it to such good effect must be a concern to a military man such as yourself? The fact that this was a Danish team (Championship level?) in our most important match for several years makes the situation all the more worrying. Comments from commentators about Randy not yet proving his commitment, and rumours on here about Browns fans being not impressed with Randy's "cost-cutting" do not help! I will keep the faith, and put my trust in people that have not let me down as yet. Just hope you can understand our concerns, especially given the suffering we have had over the last 25 years. You, MON and Randy were our bright new dawn and we are praying it was not a false one.
  4. Closer than it should have been, but a great win. Surely Luke Moore's time is up?
  5. Fair summary, although a travesty that Gabby did not get MoM - he was awesome and looks every inch a premier league striker. He worked his bollocks off - something Luke Moore could well learn from. Gardner and Knight were at fault for all 3 goals, and should not start next week. Luke Moore no longer justifies a shirt - Maloney must be given a chance. Team next week: Sorenson/Taylor Mellberg Davies Laursen Bouma Petrov Osbourne Barry Young Gabby Maloney
  6. That does not excuse making poor substitutions and surrendering a 3 goal lead. Of course not, but things are not as bleak as they seem today. We were playing against one of the most expensively assembled strikeforces in Europe. Work is still needed, but we all knew that. More will come in January. Harewood and Petrov are only stop-gaps. They are not the future.
  7. Mart did OK but was at fualt for the first spurs goal. No one wants to come to villa at the moment? You sure? Can you back that up? Don't agree at all with that point. Luke Moore terrible all season? again, can't agree at all. Just my opinions though. I don't think Laursen was at fault, it was Mellberg (again). Laursen is a top rate defender - by far our best. He wins everything in the air and has balls of steel. Mellberg could learn a lot from him. It was a general point about Villa not being very attractive at the minute. Players of Knight and Harewood's capability is about our limit at the minute. We are not in London and not in European competition. It may be possible to buy Schneider, Babel and Saviola on Football Manager, but not in real life (I am serious! People on here actually thought we could buy those actual players! Jeez.....) Luke Moore - what exactly has he done this season? Goals? Shots? Beat a player? Won a header? Chased down a lost cause? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Can't hold the ball, can't pass. I thought he was a prospect, but Gabby is embarassing him at the minute.
  8. Rather reactionary this. 1. Laursen was outstanding. 2. A point at Spurs is a good result. 3. We have a plan for the future. We have Knight and Harewood because no-one else wants to come to Villa at the minute. 4. Berger was injured. 5. Luke Moore was terrible, as he has been all season. I was bloody disappointed too, but lets not be too downhearted. 2 years ago I wouldn't have expected a shot on target there, let alone 4 goals and a point.
  9. General Some more feedback on yesterday, and more problems I'm afraid. I won't bother going on about the lack of investment in the playing staff as I know this is not your domain. The catering was once again atrocious, possibly worse than last week. The staff are rude and unhelpful. Hot dogs had run out before the game, and one type of pie left. They also ran out of water by half-time on a baking hot day. Have they no idea of the level of demand required? As they know exactly how many seats they are catering for, stock ordering can't be this difficult can it? There was a Liverpool fan sat next to me who celebrated both of their goals. When the lads in front realised, there was very nearly a fight. Suffice to say he left quickly when he realised he was about to get his teeth kicked in, and got away with only being covered in saliva. Not something I condone, but this will happen if opposing fans are allowed in with home fans. Finally, why on earth is our kit the most expensive in the premiership? It is the first time I have said it (as i don't want to even contemplate it), but many, many Villa fans are starting to wonder if our brave new dawn might be another false one.
  10. Hi General I can only confirm some posts already made. I am a ST holder in DE stand - great game, great day but many teething problems, and many things I expected to be sorted. Food was still crap, although SLIGHTLY more variety. Great that they now do half-pints of beer (my seven stone missus can't drink a pint!!!). The card reader on the turnstile had packed up altogether and the operator was just waving EVERYONE through! The queues for food and beer were still awful - there is also now a new rule where I can't order hot food from beer seller, so I had to queue for 10 mins to get beer, then join another queue two yards away for food! Didn't see anyone smoking in toilets, thankfully. Hope this is useful feedback. Please keep up the good work.
  11. Obviously enough to fill squad numbers 2, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18?
  12. This is great. Following Juju's post, I also emailed the guy at the Montreal Gazette with a complaint, and this was his email response this morning: "Congratulations. You are our 1000th Aston Villa supporter to weigh in on this tiresome subject. Unfortunately, you all seem to suffer from the impression that Montreal lives and dies with the Premiership. While it's true that we are not as abysmally ignorant of your game as you are of ours, we don't wake every morning to peruse every writer on the planet who happens to have mentioned A.V. in his text. We were misled here and I shall correct the problem. Meanwhile, I am stunned that so many people in Merry Olde, with all its wonderful cultural opportunities, have nothing better to think about than what some writer in North America says about a silly soccer team." LOL - was that an apology???
  13. Hi General First time I have posted in this thread. Just wanted to begin by saying thanks for what you, Randy, Martin and the rest have done. I can't even begin to list the things you have got right so far and I am more positive about the future than I can remember (I was only 6 in 1982!). I am a season ticket holder in the Doug Ellis (hopefully it won't be called that for long) and my daughter attends with. It is great to see so many families there these days and it is good to hear you say that is the future. However, there are a couple of issues that put people off from taking their kids: 1. The language. I understand the chanting from the Holte is all part of the game, and I know kids are subject to language at school, on TV etc. However, some of the language (even in the Doug Ellis) is absolutely foul. For grown men to use the "C" word in front of a 6 year old is unacceptable. 2. The clouds of smoke in the concourses where we get food, buy programmes etc are disgusting. The stadium should be fully non-smoking. Do you have any opinions on these issues? Thanks for listening!
  14. Didn't bother to comment on the "awesome passing" under O'Leary. I am still in shock.
  15. Carew is only 27. He can give us 5 years of service at the very top given the type of player he is. 2 games in and you are thinking about when he will finish? Can we not just enjoy the fact that we look more of an attacking force than we have since Big Ron was here?
