  1. Friday 26th October 2018: Which nine players scored Premier League Hat-Tricks for Aston Villa? http://www.myfootballfacts.co.uk/question_of_the_day/mff-question-of-the-day-october-2018/
  2. Funniest thing I've seen all season before last night's Palace v Liverpool game.
  3. Matron takes me to the park to feed the ducks once a week.
  4. I'm happy Villa retained their Premier League status for 2014-15 - there's only seven of us who are ever-present. It looks like Sherwood is on the way out, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gives some of our younger squad players a run-out next Sunday. With nothing to play for of any note for either team, let's hope we'll see an open entertaining game of football.
  5. Tottenham Hotspur host Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Sunday 11th May 2014 (KO 15:00) in the 38th and final round of the 2013-14 Premier League. Spurs come into the match in 6th place in the Table on 66 points with Villa in 14th place on 38 points. The match at will be the 167th time the two clubs have met. Tottenham Hotspur first played Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa. Three more friendlies were played until the clubs met in anger for the first time in the old Third Round of the FA Cup (today's 5th Round) in March 1903 with Villa winning 3-2. The first Football League meeting came on 20th November 1909 in the First Division after Spurs had been promoted after their first season of League football. Villa once again won 3-2. There have been two Wembley matches played between the two clubs. The first was in the 1971 Football League Cup Final which Spurs won 2-0 with two goals from Martin Chivers - Aston Villa were in the Third Division at the time. The second game at Wembley came in the 1981 Charity Shield with FA Cup Winners Spurs drawing 2-2 with Football League Champions Aston Villa. Mark Falco scored both Spurs goals and Peter Withe did likewise for Villa. The last time the two clubs met in a domestic cup tie was in the 5th Round of the League Cup in January 1994 with Villa winning 2-1. Both Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were founder-members of the Premier League in 1992-93 and the two clubs, along with Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the only seven ever-present clubs during the competition's 22 season history. Spurs did the 'double' over Villa in 2010-11 winning both matches 2-1 with Rafael van der Vaart scoring all of Tottenham's four goals. Villa's two goals both came from Marc Albrighton at White Hart Lane in October and Villa Park in December, after Spurs had been reduced to ten men after Jermain Defoe's red card after 27 minutes. Spurs signed former Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel during the summer of 2011 on a free transfer. Alan Hutton made a move in the opposite direction and Jermaine Jenas joined Villa on a season's loan. The 2011-12 match at White Hart Lane last season took place on Monday 21st November and resulted in a 2-0 win for Tottenham. Two first half goals from Emmanuel Adebayor after 14 and 40 minutes were enough to see Spurs take all three points in a game marked by Harry Redknapp's return after undergoing minor heart surgery. In January 2012 former Spurs striker Robbie Keane had a loan spell with Aston Villa scoring 3 times in 7 appearances. The match at Villa Park in April 2012 finished 1-1 with Ciaran Clark putting Villa ahead with a 25-yard shot that deflected off William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor scoring a 62nd minute penalty to level the proceedings. This fixture at White Hart Lane in October 2012 resulted in a 2-0 win for Spurs. After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker put Spurs ahead after 58 minutes when he deflected-in Jermain Defoe's close range shot and Aaron Lennon added a second in the 67th minute with a powerful shot into the far corner of the net. Villa were in a very generous mood when they hosted Spurs on Boxing Day 2012 with Spurs coming away with all three points after a 4-0 win. Jermain Defoe opened the scoring and Gareth Bale added a hat-trick. The clubs met in the Football League (Capital One) Cup in September 2013 with Spurs coming away from the 3rd Round match at Villa Park with another 4-0 win, thanks to two goals from Jermain Defoe and goals from Paulinho and Nacer Chadli. Spurs continued their fine run (eight wins and three draws in the last 11 matches) against Villa with a 2-0 Premier League victory in October 2013 at Villa Park. Goals in each half from Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado secured the three points for Tottenham. Sunday's game at the Lane will be the 167th match played between the two clubs and Spurs have the edge with 68 wins to Villa's 59 with 39 matches having been drawn. 6. Not entirely true. Spurs have spent absolutely loads on players for at least the last 10 years. They can afford to do so because they sell some on for even more and the fact that they are based in London and can therefore charge over £1000 for a season ticket. You might be surprised to learn that Spurs have actually made a profit on player trading during the 22 seasons of the Premier League Era. While headline deals like Bale, Modric & Berbatov are the ones which most people remember, it's the dozens of Academy players sold-on to other clubs which accounts for the lion's share of the profits. It's simply a misconception to say that Spurs have spent huge amounts on players.... Tottenham Hotspur Player Transfer History & Statistics 1908-2013
  7. Well both Villa and Spurs will play a lot better than that this season. Having said that, I think Spurs deserved the win, although 4-0 was not really a true reflection of the game. The best of luck for the rest of your season.
  8. Thanks - much appreciated! Martin Chivers was my favourite Spurs player when I was a lad and there was a period in the early 1970s when he was arguably one of the world's most lethal strikers. Spurs are now on a very good run but I would expect AVB to make plenty of changes to the team which beat Cardiff on Sunday. That should still mean that Spurs will have a pretty strong line-up at Villa Park but the League Cup is certainly the least important of the four competitions Tottenham are participating in this season.
  9. Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Tuesday 24th September 2013 (KO 19:45) in the third round of 2013-14 Football League (Capital One) Cup. Villa beat Rotherham United 3-0 at home in the second round with goals from Andreas Weimann, Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph, while Spurs had a bye due to European commitments. This is the first domestic cup tie contested between Villa and Spurs in 19 years. The match at will be the 165th time the two teams have met. Tottenham Hotspur first played Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa. 10. Aston Villa Player of the Year Awards I'm trying to find out when Aston Villa first awarded their Player of the Year and a list of all winners. Does anyone have this information (the awards are usually given by the Official Supporters Club)? I will be very grateful for any assistance provided. Please email me at: webmaster@myfootballfacts.com
  11. I think Villa should be fine once you start getting a few of your senior players back in action. I was impressed with the way your team never gave up the ghost and pushed for a goal right up to the final whistle. The very best of luck for the rest of your season.
  12. Nice little stat going into today's match: Tottenham Hotspur are the only team in the Premier League this season which has scored in every away game.
  13. WALKER ON VILLA: Kyle Walker knows Villa well - and he's been impressed in recent weeks. A sequence of six matches unbeaten and two defeats in 11 in all competitions ended spectacularly with an 8-0 loss at Chelsea on Sunday. Before that defeat, the run had seen Villa move away from the bottom three, beat Liverpool at Anfield and progress to the semi-final of the Capital One Cup. Full-back Kyle knows the Villa set-up better than most, having spent the second half of 2010-11 on loan at Villa Park. “A lot has changed since I was there, obviously the manager, and a lot of the players,” he said. “But I did play with a lot of the youngsters there like Weimann, Clark, Albrighton and Lowton. “They are young, energetic and hungry to win games. “They’ve proved they can dig in at Villa Park. I watched the game against Manchester United (Villa led 2-0 before going down 3-2) and the result just didn’t go their way. “It will be difficult but we need to play the way we’ve been playing and I’m sure we’ll get the right result.”
  14. Mark Lawrenson's Prediction for Aston Villa v Tottenham Hotspur Aston Villa v Tottenham (17:30 GMT) What Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert needs is a reaction from his players after the 8-0 loss at Chelsea. That doesn't mean they have to win but they need to show a reaction because they looked like Rag, Tag and Bobtail at Stamford Bridge. That's the risk you run sometimes when you play a load of young players and Lambert knows that. The thing about young players is that they will turn up at the training ground the following day and after about half an hour they will be bouncy again. The thing about Villa and their supporters is that they get what Lambert is trying to do. As long as they stay in the league that is all that matters. Tottenham came up against a very mean Stoke defence in a goalless draw at home. They will thinking they have lost two points but will look at Villa and think, after their clattering, they can go there and win. But it won't be that easy. I just think we will see a vastly improved Aston Villa who will have a real go. Tottenham are a good side but I think they will struggle to finish in the Champions League places. They just tend to disappoint a little bit. Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur Lawro's 2012-13 Predictions
  15. As it happens, Spurs (like Villa) have yet to be awarded a penalty this season... Premier League Penalty Statistics from Season 2002-03 to 2012-13 ...but Spurs have conceded only one to Villa's five.
  16. After yesterday's match against Chelsea, I'm sure the Villa players will be fired-up to make amends. I think it will be a very close game on Wednesday and I really think it could go either way by the odd goal in three.
  17. Aston Villa host Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Boxing Day, Wednesday 26th December 2012 (KO 17:30) in the 19th round of 2012-13 Premier League matches. Villa come into the match in 16th place in the Table on 18 points while Spurs are in 5th place on 30 points. The match at will be the 164th time the two teams have met. Tottenham Hotspur first met Aston Villa on 11th April 1896 when Spurs were still in the Southern League. The friendly match played at Tottenham Marshes ended with a 3-1 win for Aston Villa. After a goalless first half, Steven Caulker put Spurs ahead after 58 minutes when he deflected-in Jermain Defoe's close range shot and Aaron Lennon added a second in the 67th minute with a powerful shot into the far corner of the net.
