  1. Which is just not true. He gets stick for his application, attitude and, to a slightly lesser extent, his actual ability.
  2. TBH, I'm amazed Smith keeps picking him. Surely he sees every day Wesley getting out muscled, dispossessed and nutmeged by the more mobile training cones?
  3. But apart from that, he's **** deadly.
  4. Not a bad set of PL results for us. Of all the teams around us who played - which was all of them - none of them got much closer or pulled away. In light of today's predictable loss it's the best we could hope for from everywhere else. It was looking even better until BHA snuck a late winner against Everton.
  5. If I were JT I'd be bombarding his old mate Didier to name his price for a couple of weeks 1-1 coaching for Wesley.
  6. Said this in the match thread: And by that I mean he should be not a guaranteed starter if fit, as he seems to be at the moment, and unless he's absolutely tearing it up he should be getting far fewer minutes than he does. Smith is giving him both too much responsibility, which he just isn't up to bearing yet, and too much time to mope around the pitch when he isn't on it.
  7. And Wesley showing to me again he should be treated like an 18yo hot prospect because in terms of football development, maturity and mental strength that's where he is but his size belies that.
  8. That's enough of that now. Think I'll crack on with lunch.
  9. I'll be disappointed if this doesn't ring up as double figures. The more of these games, in which bottom-half teams take a right Royal hammering, the better. I'm hoping we'll have enough this season to comfortably keep control of our own fate with our own results. However, I'll take the effective extra point superior goal difference bestows.
  10. Me neither. I decided that the instant the envelope was opened with the name of the country on it. I won't watch any coverage or read anything about it. It'll be easy for me as I'm not much interested in international football at the best of times. A World Cup in Qatar is the worst of times. The best way to register disapproval, short of torching Qatari assets, is to not watch. And, of course, if you are thinking of going, think again and stay home grab some winter sun elsewhere.
  11. I assume you are quoting my little razzing poetry because you are now signalling your agreement with my assessment and are going to bow down to the inevitable? You can have Elmo Elmohamady, Neil Taylor and a choice of Anwar El Ghazi or Orjan Nyland (free tip, go for Ghazi) plus £10m, 5% of any sell on profit and a pre-season friendly.

  13. You don't understand the rules of that game, do you? That's not how Social Justice Top Trumps is played at all. When you lay down The Race Card the hand is over, you're the winner. You get to just your jaw out, look around smugly at the ignorant neanderthals you've just bested with your superior intellect and morality and brook no further discussion on the matter, especially any suggestions of a requirement to justify or prove the accusation. If that doesn't quite work out you can always reach for one of the other Court Cards. The Fascist. The Sexist or The Gammon.
  14. So, to protect their investment they give him another contract, throw several millions more at him over the next 18 months, get a handful of goals out of him as he continues to decline by getting older, slower, lazier and even shitter and then he leaves for nothing. Genius strategy.
  15. You'd have thought they'd wear white clothes, really. Got to be a special kind of moron if you can't even do mindless racism properly.
  16. Look on the bright side. Maybe Moyes will get brought back. They were much better under him than they are under OGS.
  17. Defo want a draw here. There was a time we'd be gritting our teeth, holding our noses and hoping for Yanitid to beat the barcodes and cabbage. Mainly because one would be way further up the table than us and therefore not a rival and t'tother because it's Newcastle, Bruce and a near rival. However, atm, we are genuinely playing for table position against manure and want Toon kept in the bottom 3. A draw furthers our cause for both here.
  18. The other thing I love about him is he is a bit of a physical freak. He's obviously of an athletic build but he's waaay stronger than he looks and I think that catches a lot of opponents out. You aren't going to see him out-muscled very often. The Belgian fans gave us the word that he was a Jekyll and Hyde character in the best possible way in that he is a cheery, affable character off the pitch but a beast when he crosses the white line onto it. We're seeing what they meant.
  19. Yes, he's like the Reverse Engels who although of a height with Wesley looks slighter but is way more effective because he understands the laws of physics and how to apply them.
  20. I thought the "files" were filtering that type of player out of our purchasing strategy? I was under the impression we were buying player with "character", which is the very antithesis of "fragile".
  21. He's so **** stupid I'm far from convinced he even realises the thing he's looking at is his own reflection. I can easily see him wondering why the bloke keeps echoing what he's saying and how he knows what he's going to say all the time.
  22. That was my thought when I saw it. It was one of those puzzling things that you sort of convince yourself you must be mistaken in your first reaction because it was such a weird, pointless, childish thing for him to do. However, none of it seemed right and I say that as someone who has seen, at very close quarters, someone get into a shoving match, take a glancing swing from the other guy and go down like a tree before pretending to be unconscious because he didn't fancy it.
  23. Actually, if it's a toss up between him and Taylor just put him in, even if he only has a right leg meaning he has to cut inside to cross. He's still get more crosses in than Taylor and even being a human bar table footballer he'd block more shots.
