Just seen the highlights... really wished I hadn't.

    Just wow.

That Elphick loan has to be one of the stupidest things we have done in the last 20 years, and that, my friends, is ****ing saying something.

    Industrial sabotage.

I think he can see it and there will be signings in that position. He must be just keeping his cards close to his chest. There is no way the window can close and this remains the squad. Not unless he wants to lose his job.

Hmmmmm. In my tinfoil hat moments, I do wonder.

  3. He’s a young man in mangerial terms, loves the game, and has played at the highest level under good managers. Most importantly he’ll be ambitious for himself, which in turn will benefit us. No way he’ll want to manage Villa for too long, regardless of what he achieves with us. He’ll want to manage at the very, very top. I like the idea of that level of drive at VP. Fresh air.

I think if we appoint a Dean Smith type manager it will be two years too late.

We went with the quick fix option and the dinosaur and as a result were going to be damaged goods for a long long time.

Sad but true. Seems the only currency we have right now is our history. Praying the challenge is tempting to some young visionary with ambition to burn.

This dispute about did we set up defensively.  I suggest watching the first - half of our most important game of the season, if anyone has any doubts about the way Bruce wants  his team's to play. It must be one of the most inept  first - half performances in a play-off final ever.

When you realise the consequences of that defeat, it makes the way we approached that game totally incomprehensible. Unforgivable, as far as I'm concerned. I want a manager  who is prepared to send us out to play on the front foot from the first minute, especially  against opposition, who are considered inferior to us.

It still riles me how a club the size of Fulham were shown so much respect by our players . Why would you allow the opposition to just stroke the ball around like they did in that first - half ? Where was the intensity and will to dominate the game. All that so called experience, and where did it go ? AWOL.

Fulham came in with this avant garde idea of playing for 90 minutes. It’s risky, but could catch on.

I think Dean Smith would still take the role.

This seems such the right appointment to me, for reasons I’m finding hard to explain at the moment. Like, totally the right choice. I’d love to see what he could do with our youth.

I don’t see Bruce staying now - he left hull for financial reasons - and this is much worse - the talk of major changes and nothing to say Bruce will lead us through this suggests to me a Bruce departure is imminent .

‘Maybe steve will release his own statement ?

Could well do. After all he’s done and the way he powered through his bereavements, maybe they’re just leaving the gun on his desk, so to speak. Do him the courtesy of an honourable exit.

Then again, with money short, would firing him cost us further? Or is he on a rolling contract?

Doctor has just made a statement, references changes are coming, but also thanking the manager and praising us fighting as a team.

Not sure what t make of it.

Vague news eh? He’s not giving much away there re SB, either decision could be read into that. More positively, it seems like Dr T is staying.

  9. For me, it’s not the losing. Losing happens, it’s the nature of contests.

It’s the nature of the defeat. That’s what kills. Every time. Turgid stuff.

I was watching it with a few neutrals; Spurs fan, Man U fan and a Liverpool fan (who had his own misery ahead). I was just embarrassed at times, partly by how we played but also about how far we now are from the teams they follow. They were being kind about Villa...we used to have a professional rivalry. It was awful.

it absolutely kills. We can say “We’re Villa” til the cows come home but we’ve failed again to return to where we allegedly belong. We have the worst of both worlds down here: a big name scalp for “lesser” teams, yet unable to actually be a big club performer, having our pants pulled down by Brentford or Norwich.

I’m not sure I can handle another season of hearing “there or thereabouts” either. The “thereabouts” IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We have to be THERE. No ifs, buts or maybes.

    Tick tock, Tony.

  10. Emotion first. Reason second. That’s football. I’ve flip-flopped badly and will see the season out with a sense of Zen.

But I wouldn’t miss his inability to let a journalist finish asking a question before starting to answer!

  11. Bit like the old boxing adage of matches being won on heart and the good chin. We beat Wolves yesterday in every way: better work rate, better tactics, better courage, better heart, better fans, better ball in the net frequency!

Think I’ll watch the highlights again.
