  1. We, or the club, can take some very high ground here, acknowledge Steve’s achievements in helping steady a club in turmoil, thank him for his service and then rip the plaster off quickly. That’s classy and generous I think, and absolutely the best decision for all parties. Even a temporary coaching staff would get more out of these players. Maybe he doesn’t deserve that, but I’ve no interest in seeing him suffer, just that the right decision is made, and made quickly. We have zero time to lose. It seems to have gone very toxic, and that can spread very quickly (and already has). Surgical removal required immediately. I agree the decision may have been postponed until a CEO was appointed as any new regime will have to work closely with him, so good relations are a must. I still think the key to all this is in the infamous Guradian article from the end of his reign at Sunderland. That was eight years ago. He has learnt nothing.
  2. Hmmmmm. In my tinfoil hat moments, I do wonder.
  3. He’s a young man in mangerial terms, loves the game, and has played at the highest level under good managers. Most importantly he’ll be ambitious for himself, which in turn will benefit us. No way he’ll want to manage Villa for too long, regardless of what he achieves with us. He’ll want to manage at the very, very top. I like the idea of that level of drive at VP. Fresh air.
  4. Seems a pharaoh nuff deal. Can we sign Nigel Sphinx now?
  5. Sad but true. Seems the only currency we have right now is our history. Praying the challenge is tempting to some young visionary with ambition to burn.
  6. Fulham came in with this avant garde idea of playing for 90 minutes. It’s risky, but could catch on.
  7. This seems such the right appointment to me, for reasons I’m finding hard to explain at the moment. Like, totally the right choice. I’d love to see what he could do with our youth.
  8. Could well do. After all he’s done and the way he powered through his bereavements, maybe they’re just leaving the gun on his desk, so to speak. Do him the courtesy of an honourable exit. Then again, with money short, would firing him cost us further? Or is he on a rolling contract?
  9. Vague news eh? He’s not giving much away there re SB, either decision could be read into that. More positively, it seems like Dr T is staying.
  10. This is a good thread. All the stages of grief are in evidence. Personally I’ll reach acceptance sometime around August I suspect. VTID.
  11. For me, it’s not the losing. Losing happens, it’s the nature of contests. It’s the nature of the defeat. That’s what kills. Every time. Turgid stuff. I was watching it with a few neutrals; Spurs fan, Man U fan and a Liverpool fan (who had his own misery ahead). I was just embarrassed at times, partly by how we played but also about how far we now are from the teams they follow. They were being kind about Villa...we used to have a professional rivalry. It was awful. it absolutely kills. We can say “We’re Villa” til the cows come home but we’ve failed again to return to where we allegedly belong. We have the worst of both worlds down here: a big name scalp for “lesser” teams, yet unable to actually be a big club performer, having our pants pulled down by Brentford or Norwich. I’m not sure I can handle another season of hearing “there or thereabouts” either. The “thereabouts” IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. We have to be THERE. No ifs, buts or maybes. Tick tock, Tony.
  12. Our season summed up in 90 minutes. Current approach taken us about as far as it can go. Time for change.
  13. Roughly as good as we needed to be. Three points and injury free. Job done. I’ve no doubt we can raise our game when required to. VTID.
  14. Emotion first. Reason second. That’s football. I’ve flip-flopped badly and will see the season out with a sense of Zen. But I wouldn’t miss his inability to let a journalist finish asking a question before starting to answer!
  15. My conspiracy theory is they’ve already settled for the playoffs and already feel comfortable they’ll be there. Avoid injuries.
  16. Shirt and drink changes worked a treat! Nice one fellas!
  17. Thort it would never happen, as guard was up, and we’d get hammered.
  18. Bit like the old boxing adage of matches being won on heart and the good chin. We beat Wolves yesterday in every way: better work rate, better tactics, better courage, better heart, better fans, better ball in the net frequency! Think I’ll watch the highlights again.
  19. Still absolutely buzzing. Give Bruce and his team the keys to the city. I was soooo wrong about him. I’m in the stocks til noon if you’re passing with rotten fruit n veg. UTV!
  20. Wee wee’d on the commentators’ narrative a bit didn’t we
  21. Wish he wouldn’t use his head for everything! Mrs!!
