Is there a press conference soon? /s

Publicly digging out players works for a while but gets old fast especially when the team needs confidence. Players in Scotland might be impressed because of his reputation but Premier League players will just ignore him
We can't gather from a tweet the actual ferocity of the digging out - could just be loosely being used as a way to hold them to account. Which I expect. If they ignore him they'll find themselves ignored right back all the way to the transfer list I should imagine.

I think SG is probably our highest profile signing/appointment and we should exploit that as much as possible. I expect a head of pimple popping to be added to the backroom staff in the coming days.
It's all about the press.

He has no grey hairs - we will soon sort that out.
Listening to this and the HP podcast I'm doubly struck by his "no excuses" philosophy. This is excellent stuff.
I also loved his use of "the next three points" phrase when discussing a game - Derren Brown levels of mind control there - intentional or not it sounds like an NLP trick to frame a game in a certain way and to set an expectation and belief level about the outcome. Maybe they all do it, but that stuck out for me.
Very excited for the next phase. UTV.

That's why he's coming here - revenge. Sabotage us he will
I was in the Liverpool end for that semi (long story). Saw up close for the first time the "legendary" Scouse support. What an absolute myth. Started clearing out on 80 mins.
I don't get the Gerrard hate, much as I'd prefer Ten Hag.
I want managers with it all before them and everything to prove and achieve. I also want a coaching set up not afraid to launch any of our players if they feel they're not the right calibre to progress us. We may have been beholden to a couple at least recently that made for an unhealthy comfort in the squad. And maybe some resentment, who knows.

I think managers like Ten Hag probably wont want to come in mid season as harder get ideas across.
I don't think he will want to leave Ajax for us at this stage
Sadly I think you're spot on.

I really hope the shortlist is media lies because no one on that list screams ambition and I don't think they'll push us to that next level.
Simon Jordan thinks we should go all out for Ten Hag, I agree with him. We need a big appointment if we are serious about competing at the highest level.
I'd give my right nut for Ten Hag. He may be keeping his powder dry for United mind, as may a few of the top level managers of course.
Nice to have owners that allow us to even contemplate a move for Ten Hag!

So, so sad it's ended this way. The games with my lad just coming of age to love the Villa were Smith's. All the way through to Wembley, what a glorious day and memory.
God bless, Dean. All the best and thanks for everything.

The thing is Paul, one thing like this seems innocuous, but many things like this, lends itself to losing a grip.
Saying yes , to everything, may seem compliant, ( even if it seems trivial) but eventually you lose control...or they think you are being funny, when you put your foot down.
Just ask any parent.

Us getting relegated last time was a travesty for a club like ours - it happening again with these owners would be a war crime.
I hate this part though. Hate it.

If there were any Smith apologists left, there wont be after this game.
Stick around.

Get El K off and Buendia out to the right.

Woke up wondering if maybe all this had to happen - the explosion of views and opinions - maybe a delayed anger stage of the grief cycle? The proper anger I mean, not the immediate one most of us felt, but the dangerous one that simmers. Maybe most of us, club included, didn't handle the Joe saga anywhere near as well as we thought. Killed the belief in the project maybe, or more accurately badly wounded it, and it's taking us a while to recover. Psychically scarred?
This may all be vital in our recovery, one way or another.

Yeah, we finished 11th.
No issue here then; if the board see it in the same light we'll stick with Smith.

2 months to do that?
Give DS Nov and reassess. If he's not turned it around by then, then at least he's been given a fair crack, which is frankly what he deserves. There would still be 25 games left for a new manager to turn things around.
Should be plenty of time given the amazing managers out there.
You don't feel he's been given a fair crack already?

I don't think anyone can complain if we replace Smith. He has been great for us in terms of getting us to where we are, and every Villa fan appreciates that so much.
Unless you're a complete tool bag.
But, if he's sacked, it won't be a knee-jerk reaction. It won't be like Spurs have done with Nuno and we bin him off after 10 league games. This calendar year, from Grealish being out injured, all the way to where we are now, has been poor. It has just been offset by the odd highlight. e.g. Last 2 games of last season, the Leon Bailey cameo against Everton, the win at Old Trafford. However, even this season you can counter that with the Watford 1st half performance, the Spurs performance, and the collapse at home to Wolves.
Smith's PPG record, and his overall record without Grealish, is not great and it feels like we're heading back to where we were in his first season back in the PL.
The current manager deserves to go down as a bit of a hero at Villa Park for everything he has done to get us to where we are, but that doesn't excuse him from the same criticism and scrutiny as any other PL manager where things have not been great for a while.
Big clubs make big, sometimes difficult, decisions when needed. Obviously the Spurs decision to replace their manager was an extreme, but they have a plan and are acting on it to get the club to where they feel it needs to be. I won't complain if we do the same now.
Excellent post. Bang on.

Our owners never wanted Henry, it was made up by a journalist, quite possibly in order to highlight Henry's availability for a job, but he was never considered by our owners.
Fair enough. And thank God for that.

So deal with Spurs fell through because Fonseca didn't want to pay UK tax levels but will sign for us? Likely story
Interesting. Hadn’t heard that.

I would be very happy with Zorro but if we are shopping for that type of manager we are really going to get the cheque book out and change our current modus operandi
Indeed. Daft as it sounds I suspect at least one of our owners was in favour of doing that before we settled on Smith. I don’t think they were financially shy about courting Henry.

I have just forced myself to watch the highlights from yesterday. The lack of effort from the players made my blood boil. Every single goal that we conceded involved some (mostly multiple examples) of half arsed defending. Smith is not doing himself any favours whatsoever but the players are not helping. I am sick to death of Targett and his half arsed attitude but he is not alone. Young, Marv, Hause, Buendia, Bailey, Emi, Konsa, Watkins all had pathetic half arsed play that led to goals yesterday. Infuriating.
Almost seems deliberate doesn’t it.

That's the list I came up with recently too, could even be harsh on Luiz on my off days. Work to be done.
