  1. I voted for Daltrey. No man has ever looked cooler than he did in the Woodstock video. Born to be a rock star.
  2. I voted for Season 2 mainly because I really enjoyed the family dynamics of the Sobotkas and I liked the way it broadened the issues raised in Season 1 to incorporate the decline of manufacturing and other blue collar trades. Also, I thought it was the most distinctly Baltimore of the series since it dealt with issues like the decline of the Port specifically and the Chesapeake Bay in general. Crime, drugs, corruption and unemployment topics could just as easily be said about other cities so Season 2 made it a little more specific. Since I grew up in that area I was probably a little biased towards that season.
  3. Agree with the Laursen and NRC nominations.
  4. We've also only been capable of detecting radio signals for a very short period of time. I'm in the camp that there has to be other life out there if only because of the sheer numbers of stars and planets and that life on Earth has withstood very hostile conditions during great freezes, meteors, volcanic activity, etc. The lack of visitation from outside life could again be a function of the very short amount of time humans have been on the planet or some type of evidence that interstellar travel is not possible for things with a finite lifespan. I now fully await more knowledgeable people to shoot this full of holes.
  5. Once you're tagged 'The Second City' I don't think you can go back. Chicago is still called the Second City even though Los Angeles has passed it in terms of population. So, even if Manchester was to annex enought towns to pass in population there's precedent for you.
  6. I know. Here's a little algebra for you on a Friday's night. 400 pages and no signings. How many pages on August 31st, after a busy summer with 6 or 7 signings? Based on the current pages to signing ratio, one signing will create a thread of infinite length.
  7. Atletico's interested because Maxi Rodriguez and Martin Petrov have sustained long term knee injuries in the last 3 weeks and they look like shit without width. Basically it's been Maniche taking long shots and their good start has stagnated the last few weeks. They seem to be printing their own money there to try to get into the CL and I could see them going after SWP. Chelsea would probably not want to sell him to realistic candidates in the Prem and if you're going to leave London, Madrid doesn't seem too bad an option.
  8. Great to hear that an American tour may be forthcoming, it's anecdotal evidence but interest in the premiership seems to me to be on the rise generally in this country and more specifically there has been a fair influx of American posters on this site in the last few months. Thanks to yourself, Mr. Lerner and Mr. O'Neill for lifting the gloom surrounding the club and getting the ship going in the right direction.
  9. Over the summer M. Petrov was rumored to Celtic although I don't know how much legs that really had. The same story said part of the reason was so that he could play with Stilian. I could see him leaving because the Aguerro kid is going to be a great player and it would probably be Petrov's minutes he'll start taking as the season progresses. Obviously I have no inside information and am probably just daydreaming out loud but there is some hearsay to go on.
  10. I don't think Torres is a world beater but maybe Atletico would give a group discount.
  11. I watch alot of Atletico and like M. Petrov alot as a player and he'd fit in well to the system that's been used by O'Neill so far this season. He's playing every game there so far and with Atletico off to a good start and showing alot of ambition I can't imagine him leaving there midseason. Seems like they've gambled on making the Champions League this year and wouldn't let someone like him go. Now, next summer if they flame out and are looking to get back some of the millions they spent this summer I could see him being an affordable addition. One thing is for sure, we'd be HUGE in Bulgaria. While we're raiding Atletico let's go ahead and get Kun Aguerro, Maxi and Torres.
  12. I don't think I'd want to bring in a slew of new players at once. I think it's important to keep a coherent core of players and then bring in quality players to upgrade targetted positions. For January, Milner would be a good buy and then a left back to free Barry to play in the midfield. Bridge would be ideal but I can't see Chelsea letting him go unless he really starts to make noise about being unhappy. They don't need the money, they're not going to find a better replacement and they'll need the depth at the position for Europe and domestic cups. A quality alternative to McCann would be welcome as well I suppose, how vital he is was demonstrated on Saturday and his playing hurt showed we're pressed for options at that position.
  13. Oh, Indeed! Also from The Wire, Idris Elba as Stringer Bell was fantastic. I saw him in the Newark airport waiting on a flight to London, maybe it's his on screen persona or that he's probably about 6'4" 250 lbs but he looked happy left alone and I was happy to leave him alone. On the show he's completely amoral and cunning but with great business sense and wants to make selling drugs like any other business and get rid of the wasteful violence. The great thing about the Wire is that it shows drug dealers and cops in an unsensationalized manner. To most of the characters it's a job, the same way that anything else is a job and it's boring and repetitive and bureaucratic. The cases also last an entire season rather than one episode so you really get to know the characters and see how a case is built rather than the typical TV cop getting someone to confess through interrogation. The episode where Stringer and Avon compete with Prop Joe to sign up ringers for the East Baltimore vs West Baltimore basketball game was great along with any episode featuring Brother Mouzone.
  14. While we're quoting the great philosophers relating to the takeover.
  15. Sorry for the size of the picture, but the huge truth demands a huge headline.
  16. 26, it'll be 27 on Friday. With all the regrets and bitterness of a man twice my age.
