  1. If you turned up to the pub in that, you'd be asked why your name was printed on the front rather than the back.

Back at the ranch, it is close for me between Idle, Palin and Cleese.

I've put Idle top because he is always funny in whatever he does and I love Nuns on the Run.

Palin is next because he plays characters so well and his travel programmes are brilliant.

Cleese is good and I love Fawlty Towers but he is always very similar in character IMO plus we get a Fawlty overkill and we don't see the stuff the other two did like Rutland Weekend Television and Ripping Yarns often enough.

    7. We will eventually get around to painting the train station but that has taken a back seat to much of the work we are doing now. When we first looked at that project, we did not realize how much work would be required to get the stadium and systems up to snuff. We need to work on priority projects first...to include "you know what."

I agree with this point General, as someone in the IT industry I know that Villa are seen as a very forward thinking company with regards to their IT investment and even MO'N is known to get involved. Shows that he isn't just a 'sawdust on the floor' type manager.

  3. Both spend a lot of time on the treatment table but Santa Cruz has been there, seen it, done it and Ashto has it all to do. I get the feeling that Santa Cruz is the one that is available, I thought we should have gone for him when he was available for £3.5m!

  4. It's the same old spin. Two years into O'Neills management reign and we still have the smallest squad in the division. I think a lot of us are wising up to these "wee" coincidences that see us continually not strengthening the first team squad to an appropriate number.

The clocks ticking and we're as ineffective in the transfer market as ever. Not that we should mention something as low on the priority list as our transfer policy (the thing that really matters) to someone on the board of directors (our route to tell you about our feelings about OUR club). Heaven forbid - let's all discuss painting a railway bridge instead!

I'll save the General's time for him, here is what he told you on the 3rd of this month Ross:

RossAndreas: I have only said the following to 3 people on all the sites I post on..."Let's agree to disagree." If you believe that the role of the Board of Directors is tied to decent acquisitions, then we will never come to an agreement. Simply put, the Board does not have a role in Player Personnel....that is the job of our Manager and those who support him. The Board supports Villa in many, many, ways but we do NOT get involved in players. I have watched other Boards get involved and cause HUGE problems...both with the NFL and the Premiership. We have learned from both observation and experience that when a Board starts micro-managing the Manager and Coaches, the end is not far off. BAD IDEA!!! If you want to personally hold me accountable for this Transfer Season...fine, I will take it because we will have a good one.

  5. Rutland, the smallest county in the UK is only the smallest for half of the year. The other half of the year the smallest county is the Isle of White.

Now, can anyone who doesn't watch QI tell me why?

Never mind all that, what about Rutland Weekend Television?

  6. Muamba to bolton for £5.75 million. I bet they are laughing all the way to the bank. Talk about over priced.

they only have £5million upfront for him the rest is just potential add-onns of 750k but more importantly arsenal got around £1.8million of that fee due to the sell on clause and the fact they bought him for £4million means they sold him on at a loss :D still a stupid price for a player of his quality

Tom Ross interviewed Sullivan at the end of the season and Sullivan said that they had paid Arsenal £2m up front and then they had to pay a certain amount each game up until £4m is paid and then Arsenal get a percentage of the sale too. So basically Blose have made up to £1.75m from the transfer but a further percentage of that is to Arsenal.

  7. General,

    Bit of a 'PS'.

I know you don't like answering transfer-related questions, but I'm sure you've gathered by now how important signings are to the fans? Whether the Board like it or not, part of the commercial allure of the Premier League is the speculation and sensation that goes with transfer activity. The reason you are asked so many questions is that Randy doesnt speak to the fans directly and MON doesnt like to dilvuge his thoughts.

You and the Board really need to think about how you address this issue. Saying words to the affect of 'we like to conduct our business behind closed doors' is professional, you're right, but we, the fans, who pay the wages and support the club's existence (along with Randy) want to know what's going on, what kind of players we're looking at (positions and numbers would be a start) and 'where we are'.

I'm sorry if this reality doesnt meet with the way the Board likes things to be done, but the reality of high petrol prices doesnt meet with the way I like to drive my car. That's just tough, isnt it?

Thanks - it's great to be able to discuss matters like this with Board members direct. I'm sorry if it's a bit difficult but it's not all going to be 'number of season tickets sold to-date' or 'directions to the train station' questions, is it?

General, I would like to say that I think that how we conduct our business is how we should be conducting it.

  8. That's because he thought you were a stalker Nick :-)

There isn't a simple cause and fix for the financial issues the world faces. We have just been given target sectors and countries based on analyst views, which is interesting reading to see where people think there will be money and where there will be belt tightening. There will always be upward sectors just due to the nature of the way that business is now run and the way the world operates. Dependency on house wealth is a risky process as is dependency on other countries etc.

The old adage about America sneezing is still a very true one.

    1. Lots of good ideas re. fundraising for Acorns. I am forwarding them in as we get them. The one that will not work is the old "Krulak run the marathon trick"...not gonna happen. I work out everyday but my knees cannot take the pounding anymore.

    2. Never been to Cosat Rica.

    3. Folks are looking at travel packages now.

    4. Nick76: Two suggestions. 1) contact Duncan Riddle at AVFC and see what he can do or 2) go straight to Acorns and I am sure they will act as the sponsor/go-between to set this up.

    5. Beasley: IF the Lord spoke to me, I would jump through hoops to do what he wanted. Maybe he would point me towards a right back.

6 Season Tickets: Approximately 5450 sold to date....against a target of 3600 for this date. Thingsd are going well.

General, lets have a charity fun run for Acorns from Villa Park, do a lap around Sty Andrews and then return to Villa Park. Afterall we have been running rings around them all season!
