I’ve always thought that in football people get compared to players who they physically resemble. I remember in the 90s commentators couldn’t stop talking about David Batty as being like a young Billy Bremner and it’s something I’ve noticed ever since. Blonde players, players with curly hair, short players, tall players, bald players, seems to apply to all of them. So don’t think that can be put down to racism, particularly in Nakambas case as that role in particular is dominated by black players so it would be hard to tell. While we’re getting our house in order though, something I’ve never appreciated is when Benteke or Wesley are described as ‘beasts’. Never heard this about a white player however imposing they are physically.

I don't know if it's fair to apportion too much blame to Sid and Kev but I did worry when Mcleish was appointed that he was put in an even more difficult position because he was coming in with two untouchable assistants already in post. Normally, managers will take people they know to try and replicate their success (ha!) at the new place and stamp their authority on things. It may have seemed like a good move from Lerner and Faulkener to listen to the fans and insist on our beloved coaches staying in post but it doesn't seem to have done anybody any favours. Hopefully though it's just sped up the penny dropping about how poor McLeish is. They certainly picked the wrong things to listen to when they hired McLeast.
