So an assist that got us to an FA cup final doesn't count?

I guess we better never mention Gil's wonder goal in the cup again then.

How about reading the topic, before commenting, Zatman specifically mentioned the LEAGUE!!!!!

I will give Garde time but he has shown nothing yet with his tactics, team selection or style of play that thinks he will turn it around. At least with Tim I saw him win us some games

I disagree with this, however the best time to judge Garde is after the next 4 games.

The one that setup Cleverley against West Ham and for Delph against Liverpool, corner against Everton

The Delph one was in the Cup, and I'm not going trawling through looking at the Everton game. I'm going by Whoscored.

Loaned out to Porto for the season over the summer by Tim Sherwood, Aly Cissokho’s second spell with the Portuguese club didn’t quite go as planned.

Today, Sport Witness can exclusively reveal that the player’s loan has been officially cut short by Aston Villa, with the left-back returning to the Midlands club for the remainder of the season.

Talk of this happening has been circulating for a while now, especially since Jordan Amavi’s cruciate ligament rupture, and the deal has now been finalised.

According to a source close to the player, the left-back was never really in Lopetegui’s plans, with some decisions made by the Porto manager described as “questionable”.

Asked if Aly Cissokho wanted to return to Aston Villa, the source told Sport Witness: “Of course, yes! Aly’s objective is to have as much game time as possible and take pleasure in doing so. He’s only 28.”

One of the main reasons behind the player’s return is, of course, Rémi Garde.

Aston Villa’s new manager was the man in charge during Aly Cissokho’s last year at Lyon before the player’s move to Valencia in 2012.

The source explained: “Rémi Garde knows him very well. They had a promising contact over the phone (prior to the deal being finalised) and he’ll know how to use him.”

There were indications the deal had been completed on Thursday by the player’s absence during the morning training session.

During his brief loan spell at Porto, Aly Cissokho only made three appearances for the Portuguese club (two in the league and one in the cup).

    Tom Coast.

If I wasn't happy here and I didn't want to be here I would go back home. I don't think either of them want to be here

So Veretout comes out and says he's settled here now (its on the OS by the way) and you think he doesn't want to be here. So basically you think they aren't good enough, you think they don't want to be here, you think they'd go back to a French club on less money. Come on pal, you sure you aren't sitting in space with those opinions.

I doubt they are worth that now though, plus they would probably both be up for going back to ligue 1, nowhere near good enough for the premier league

Do you not understand what he is saying no one in France apart from PSG,  will be able to pay them the wages they are on here, so absolutely no point in them going back there.

  8. Just found out Grealish stats, in 1516 minutes of football he has scored 1 goal and 1 assists, but not to worry he won a few league games because Benteke played. Gil and Grealish are both very good players, they both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'd rather somehow getting both of them in the team as it will help our side.

    That Gil is our saviour

amazingly we have never won a league game with Gil playing. cant be a coincidence at this stage 1 goal and 1 assist in nearly 900 minutes at the club

Just out of interest how many assists and goals does Jack have if we are using league football?

Allegedly injured? Are you sure you're not mixing him up with his brother? Andre is an injury doubt.

Neither were injured, they both played today, with Jordan scoring the goal above.

Aston Villa news: Remi Garde set to appoint Steve Round to his backroom staff

John Percy By John Percy11:48AM GMT 16 Nov 2015 CommentsComment
Remi Garde is set to appoint Steve Round, David Moyes' former Manchester United assistant, to his backroom staff at Aston Villa.
Round has held talks with Garde over a move to Villa Park and is expected to join as the Frenchman's No. 2 before Saturday's trip to Everton.

Remi Garde wants an assistant with Premier League experience
Garde has moved for Round as he wants an assistant with experience of the Premier League, after his bid to recruit Gerald Baticle and Bruno Genesio was blocked by Lyon.
Round, 45, turned down an offer from Steve McClaren to join Newcastle earlier this season and is also believed to have been a target for Tim Sherwood, Garde's successor, in the summer. But he is poised to agree a short-term deal with the strugglers, possibly until the end of the season, and will make his return to the game in the Midlands.

Villa held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in Garde's first match in charge
Round worked with Moyes as No. 2 for six years at both Everton and United, before leaving Old Trafford last April.
The former defender has also assisted McClaren at England and Middlesbrough, plus Sam Allardyce at Newcastle.
Villa are bottom of the league after only one win this season but held leaders Manchester City to a 0-0 draw in Garde's first game.

Former Manchester United and Everton assistant manager Steve Round is being lined up to be Remi Garde's No.2 at Aston Villa, sources have told ESPN FC.

Garde is still working on building his backroom team at Villa after replacing Tim Sherwood as manager at Villa Park earlier this month.

The Frenchman was keen to bring him with Lyon coaching duo Gerald Baticle and Bruno Genesio, but the Ligue 1 club were unwilling to let them leave for Villa.

It means Garde has been forced to look elsewhere to bring in some coaches and he has turned his attentions to Round.Round has previously worked with McClaren at Middlesbrough and England and he turned down the chance to reunite with him at Newcastle last summer as he looked to forge his own career in management.

Villa are keen to add the 45-year-old to their coaching staff as he has a wealth of experience of coaching in the Premier League that will aid Garde's transition from management in Ligue 1.

Round has held talks with Garde and Villa hope to secure his appointment before Saturday's trip to Everton.

  13. For this to happen, as said above it's Porto's call, considering he isn't featuring much in the squads never mind the first team, they might be open to negotiation of ending his loan early with us paying them some sort of compensation.

  14. Interesting to see Guzans comments in the mail. I remember Sherwood saying he was trying to be calmer on the sidelines due to the players requests. Guzan spoke about Garde quiet nature on and off the field. I think it suits our players.. that he is calm and not worried easily. That was a pressure situation against a very good side and we got a point. We just need to play the same way but possibly a bit more adventurous against lesser sides.

I dont think he will have Sanchez AND Gana against the lesser sides. He may go for a more attacking line up.

I think Sanchez will be an integral part to Garde's system.

  15. On a serious note, can you use your weaker foot? I've seen Clark, Okore, Richards, they are so one footed it's untrue. Crespo is only CB I've seen who I'd think he'd be able to play on his weaker side.

  16. Can't believe there have been no posts in this thread following the game yesterday. I thought he was absolutely brilliant and showed he is more than capable at CB.

I like him as a player Trent, I think all the criticism leveled at him is incredibly unfair. His positional sense is decent, he reads the game well and is so powerful even if he is out of position he can make up for it.

He just needs a decent partner. Clark is limited. I'd like to see Okore play alongside him, perhaps they are too similar though. Both are fast and strong.

I expected Illori to have been involved by now as well.

Please no, I know I've mentioned this before but for a defender to play on the side of their weaker foot, it's extremely difficult without working on it. Clearing the ball is key for any CB and for them not being comfortable to clear the ball it causes all sorts of problems at the back. Stick with Clark and Richards and let them build an understanding.
