Thank you mate.
It wont be long before I'm taking my young boy (he's only 20 months), so I'm already VERY excited about that, and he has no choice in the matter

En route now, it's the first home game I've been to since Dean Smith's first Villa match against Swansea.
My dad used to take me on the train a fair bit when I was younger, so I wanted to return the favour that day and take him. Hopefully we can get the same result (1-0).
Unfortunately he passed away in January, so I feel a little emotional sat on the train, on my own, thinking about all the times he used to take me and now he's not here. Hopefully he's watching and can bring some good luck upon us!
Hoping for a great atmosphere, and can't wait to see Villa Park again in all it's glory, been far too long.
We got this!

I know it's not ideal in the race for a Champions League place, but there is definitely something rather satisfying being the ONLY English team left in Europe!
4th and ECL - Emery should be manager of the season!

Tough, tough game, made tougher by tonight's exertions.
Wonder if there's a case for starting Duran, thought he did ok tonight and might give us a but more energy, physicality and aerial presence in both boxes?
I doubt we will, not sure he is the type to play off Watkins. We're just so short on numbers to mix things up which is such a shame.
Hopefully we can sneak it, I don't care about the performances now, it's all about results!

All my footballing mates hate him.
All my Villa supporting family love him.
I'm so glad he's ours

Let's be honest if we did take it to extra time from here it would be totally undeserved. Just not at the races tonight, a bridge too far, it would seem

Whatever happens let's just remember how far we have come in such a short space of time, quarter finals of ECL, 4th in the league, with 5 games to go, and a cruel injury list to cope with through the season. Remarkable season.
Hopefully we have one big last push in us to make it the best season in my lifetime.
The win at Arsenal has made me feel more confident, as I'm sure it has with the players.
We have the world's best keeper, some quality centre halves, a rested Luiz, an inspiring captain, some dangerous forwards and one of the most in form strikers in the world at the moment. Let them fear us.
FWIW - I think we draw 1-1 Watkins

This is what I’ve been thinking too. My only concern is if we actually do ok for 75 mins (so don’t make early subs), run our strongest line up into the ground and then concede late goal(s) anyway we’ll have knackered our best team ahead of the Lille game for nothing.
Reality though, I can’t see anything but a comfortable win for Arsenal. They were very good against us at VP but we held on for the win, now we’re much weaker and they’re stronger. Hopefully they rotate a bit.
I know what you mean, it's a difficult one knowing which way to approach it, such a shame we've had all these injuries and the suspensions haven't helped either.
If we really wanted to "throw it" and rest players..
Olsen
KKH Chambers Lenglet Moreno
Zaniolo Tim Tielemans Rogers
Diaby Duran
Emi, Cash, Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne, Bailey, Luiz, McGinn all rested!
But that side would probably lose by 5!
-
I think we will require another Emi masterclass to get anything from this tbh, even if they rest a few they will still field a really strong side and our defence a lot of problems.
I wonder if we will go stronger than we might have now, due do the disappointing coefficient results last night?! Issue is we are so stretched with the squad that we can't make wholesale changes even if we wanted to. Probably just about managing players best we can.
Depending on fitness levels, I'd go;
Martinez
Cash Konsa Lenglet Moreno
McGinn Tim Tielemans Rogers
Diaby Watkins
Start strong and see how it's going first 45, if we're getting blown away, start replacing a few with Lille on the horizon.
-
Will need a really strong away performance to get through this one, but I'm backing us to complete the job.
Martinez MOTM.

We need a third, probably a 4th...

That's two great chances to make it two, greedy by Bailey, then Watkins.

I really like Rogers

United 5 points behind us now as their game in hand is Sheffield United at OT. They've the easier run in after this weekend. You'd say 6th place finish is definitely likely for us now.
Massive for United this win and a killer for us
With our superior goal difference it's effectively 6 points.
How you get that we are destined to finish 6th from that I really don't know.
But if they do win tonight, it makes things less comfortable and to be honest I've seen a few people on here write them off too early!

Half arsed selection, there was no lack of effort.
I doubt that too. We have a serial winner managing us whose trying to manage the players best he can competing on two fronts, with numerous injuries and a suspension to boot. I bet he's done nothing half arsed in his life!
Back on topic, I think we need 71 points. Or 70 and a better GD than Spurs. But 5th will be enough!

Half-arsed team?
Weakened, maybe. But there was definitely no lack of effort from the team tonight from what I saw.

4-1 probably a fair reflection on how the game went, but doesn't tell the whole story, for periods in the first half we looked pretty dangerous on the break, Zaniolo, Rogers, Diaby and Duran and the goal was really well executed.
Unfortunately, they are relentless and we were wilting a little just before HT, Luiz needs to keep a calm head and Zaniolo doesn't cover himself in glory in the wall and such a poor goal to concede right on HT.
Second half (despite what McCoist said) we were right in the game. Luiz and Lenglet? Take their chances and it was game on.
Eventually, they wore us down and the third killed us, which was a shame has the subs may have given us a bit extra.
I don't think we should be too disheartened with the result. We just need to get behind the lads on Saturday, it won't be easy, but I think the team selection tonight has given us a better chance !

Give me our club, our owners, our manager, our fan base, our stadium, our history, our kit etc etc over theirs all day long

All ifs and buts, but if Luiz strikes that low into bottom corner, which he's more than capable of, we were right in this.
Please keep it to 4, I think we deserve that for how we've played overall.

I hope this is the last time we see Chambers in a Villa shirt

Thanks for the mention.
Not long back..
Thoroughly deserved the 3 points.
Rogers my MOTM, 8/10.
Watkins, Tielemans and McGinn all 7.5/10.
Others 7/10.
Cash / Digne 6/10.
Felt a bit sad, reminiscing, on the train, both ways, but met my nephew at Birmingham New Street and the few hours before and after were great (Aston Inn) and of course the match ... and 3 points!
