My personal favourite is this one:

    The Death Penalty

If the Conservatives pledged to re-introduce the death penalty, say lethal injection for child murderers and serial killers, would this make people more likely to vote for them?

    The Death Penalty

Like the Guildford Four and Birmingham Six?
  5. In the spirit set by the "one bullet" thread I thought I'd get your views on this issue. Did you know that some American states still have electrocution and the gas chamber as a means of executing people? Personally I'm dead against it.
  6. Im not going to reply to that as I find your style of arguing too annoying.
  7. 4-5-1 would have at least made it more difficult for Arsenal. They were the better team and gave a world class performance but you can still identify one or two weaknesses, i.e 1.They are not good at crosses and headers and 2. They are not so good in the 2nd half. We should have played accordingly.
  8. It was through balls from Vieira and Bergkamp that killed us, if you make Arsenal play crosses in they look weak.
  9. Against Arsenal we should have had 5 in midfield. They are so good at playing through the centre, you have to keep it tight in there and force them out wide. I think yesterdays game suggests once again that DOL is weak tactically.
  10. Last season the attendance against Arsenal was only 39000. This year it's sold out. That suggests it has more to with Villa getting higher attendance this year than the appeal of watching Arsenal.

    Protest Ideas ?

Some argue it's the fair weather supporters who most want the protests but Im not sure i agree myself.

    Protest Ideas ?

How about refusing to leave the ground at the end of the game? A "sit-in" if you like. I think this would have more impact than a late arrival, with the fans staying behind chanting "wheres the money gone" etc etc

Does anyone have the figures for how much they all spent, as I can't find them. Would be interesting to compare. People have mentioned how exciting their teams were. Well here are the goals scored per game ratios: Big Ron: 118 goals in 98 games = 1.20 goals per game Brian Little: 158 goals in 120 games = 1.32 goals per game John Gregory: 195 goals in 148 games = 1.32 goals per game Graham Taylor: 65 goals in 51 games = 1.27 goals per game David O'Leary: 71 goals in 60 games = 1.18 goals per game So according to this, BFR wasn't all that exciting, with Little and JG tied in 1st. DO'L looks the most boring, worse than GT!

Here are their pts per game records as managers in the Premiership, taken from http://www.astonvilla-mad.co.uk Makes interesting reading: BFR: 141 points from 98 games = 48% Brian Little: 182 points from 120 games = 51% John Gregory: 231 points from 148 games = 52% Graham Taylor: 58 points from 51 games = 38% David O'Leary: 84 points from 60 games = 47% These stats would suggest that John Gregory was actually our best manager. What do you know eh? Close run thing though, with Little 2nd, Atkinson 3rd, DOL 4th and GT 5th.

I didn't have time to go into this earlier but here it is: BFR: Bought some very good players to the club (and a couple of no-hopers). Season when we finished 2nd saw us play some outstanding football at times. Winning the league cup was good as well and the victory over Inter Milan one I'll never forget. I'd put him 2nd Brian Little: As I said above I think he was our best (premiership) manager. Although he only had 2 full seasons the team he had was excellent. Ugo, McGrath and Southgate were superb at the back, Draper and Townsend bordered on world class in midfield, Yorke was fantastic upfront. His mistakes were buying Curcic and Collymore but at the time both were welcomed. I have him 1st John Gregory: Started very well indeed, and his first 30 games or so were league winning form. Didnt sustain it though and he had too many bad buys. Also had a very authoritarian style which I didnt like. Would put him 4th Graham Taylor: We played better football than 16th place suggested, but really lets just remember him for his 1st spell at the club. Sadly would put him 5th based on his 2nd spell David O'Leary: Last season was impressive and he would have won the poll a few months ago, but a few doubts have been raised after our recent slump. He could still go on from here and be an excellent Villa manager but on the other hand if results don't improve serious questions will ahve to be raised. I;d say hes 3rd for now. I think I might finally have started a thread people are interested in...

Im going with Brian Little. He finished 4th then 5th in the league and won the league cup, a better record than any of his successors. He had an excellent team, but where it went wrong was that McGrath and Townsend left and the club didnt invest to replace them.
  18. I've gone with Mourinho. Yes Wenger has done brilliantly by making people like Vieira the world class players they are. Remember though, while Mourinho has had a lot to spend at Chelsea, he didnt have much to spend at Porto, but his bargain buys helped win them the Champions League.
  19. Wondered if Brummybloke had a point and there was some kind of connection...
  20. from that list Yakubu definitely. But would probably look elsewhere if it was up to me.
