  1. Does it matter who you beat ? Going from that list we beat Bolton, who beat Liverpool, we beat Wigan, who beat Chelsea, Blacnkburn who beat Arsenal.............. So if you went through a season beating the bottom 10 home and away , picking up 60 points. Beat 8th 9th at home and lost the other 18 games it would be a crap season , even though you would get Champions League football ?. I just dont see peoples logic, I really don't. If we win tomorrow we are 9th , or 8th. I dont give a shite who we beat to get there. and I dont give a shit if beating Wigan, Albion and Blackburn earn the points to get us 6th.
  2. Here is a novel thought. If the fans actually attempt to support them team, instead of sitting in silence waiting for one of them to make a stray pass and then vent ultimate rage at the team - we may just do it. The only time this season I have heard the fans support the team was Arsenal, now I know we lost it, but how well we played that day. Just a thought.
  3. Of course I am always wanting Villa to win, but more than ever, I want us to win tomorrow night. If we do, and Sunderland / Norwich draw, we will be 8th, not that far off 7th. I hope we win, it will be deathly silence on here. 8th going into February, nt far off 7th and playing them the weekend. We may even talk about europe !! Or, maybe, people will just continue to slag everything off about the club and the manager.
  4. This is a huuuuugggge game. Win it and we are minimum 9th, possibly 8th if Sunderland and Norwich draw. If we are 8th, even the biggest doom mercheants will have to admit that we wont get relegated and we can actually start looking up. Lose it and negativity will just engulf the club again. I dont care what anyone says, I dont give a monkeys chuff if we put all 11 men in our box and dont come out for 89 mins and 50 seconds as long as we break in the 90th minute and score winning the game. I cant see any of QPR's signings starting, and even if they do, they wont be up to the pace or on the same wavelength so I reckon we should win. Hughes sides are always negative workmanlike teams (which is why I am amazed that people on here who hate McLeish hold him up as the perfect guy we should have got) so it will be tight. 1-0 hopefully.
  5. Lets just wait shall we ! Stan Petrov was crap for near on 18 months before he came good. I remember the expression "having a Ugo" In fact, I remember Gareth Barry being hailed as "too slow to be anything other than a mediocre player" on here less than 4 yrs ago. He hasn't been good, thats quite apparent. But neither were Downing and Young in their first seasons with the club. I have seen a lot of improvement since mid December, he was exceptional until his head went against Arsenal at home and over the past 6 games, he has probably been at fault for one goal (maybe two) being harsh I agree, in August and September I thought I could have played right back better than him - but I am willing to give credit where it is due, and he is gradually getting there in my eyes. And as I said, he has NEVER had a settled guy to play with on the right side - in the past few weeks alone he has had Ireland, Gabby, Alby, NZog, Bannan and been played in midfield himself !!! that cant help the guy
  6. Its not blind optimism, it is knowing reality, and the reality is this. Randy Lerner gambled, MON said give me a shed load of money and I will get you CL football. If he succeeded, that shed load of money would have been repaid in extra revenue. The gamble failed and because of that, we are now in a financial mess. Now whether you blame Lerner, Faulkner or O'Neill (thats another debate) that is the fact. So we now have McLeish. And his brief is to sort out the mess. THIS IS NOT GOING TO BE DONE IN SIX MONTHS !!!!!! We have lost our "big" players. And nothing could be done about it. Barry and Young were coming up to out of contract and said they would not resign. Milner said he wanted out, and Downing did the dirty on us. NONE OF THAT WAS MCLEISH's FAULT. He then has a lot of shite on big wages that will be gone in June, Beye, Cueller and Heskey the three main ones, and probably a few more (I dont class these as shit) "older" players on big wages , Petrov, Collins, maybe Dunne, Warnock etc..... NONE OF THIS IS MCLEISH's FAULT - he didn't sign them, he didn't give them the wages. SO Until McLeish has had time to sort this lot out, I will give him a fair crack of the whip. Thats not saying I like him, or I wanted him, its saying I'll back him. I accepted at the start of the season that this was going to be a dodgy year, some good, some bad, some even ugly. And that is what we have. We are 11th, we could be 8th tomorrow, and given the circumstances, if we are, I would suggest McLeish is punching well above his weight. Onto Transfer topic, I am more than happy to just go with what we have, give the kids more gametime, sort out the wheat (what seems at the moment to be Herd, Gardner, Clark, Alby etc..) from the chaff (what appears to be Lowry, I know hes gone, Hogg - gone etc...) And then when we know which kids will make it (still got to look at Guzan, Lichaj, Bannan to a certain extent, Weimann and Fonz) THEN let McLeish buy players that we need !. AND THEN JUDGE BOTH HIM, HIS APPOINTMENT AND THE RESULTS until then, lay off him, coz I remember in 1987 - a certain GT team being in the bottom 3 of the Championship in November, about 9th at about this time the same year in the same division , the selling big players like McInally and replacing them with no ones like Olney AND TWO YEARS LATER WHEN HE HAD DONE JUST THIS WE WERE RUNNERS UP TO LIVERPOOL !!!!!!!!!!!! and at the end of this tiime, which I would say is end of next season then slag off McLeish and his signings, but until he / his signings fail - LEAVE IT OUT
  7. Agree about the midfield. I think we looked far stronger in defence when Herd was playing in front of them. This is why I am not too down about this season. I can see w have a basis of a bloody good side if we just let them make their mistakes. Clark, Herd, Lichaj, Alby, Gabby, Bent, NZog, Bannan are all very very good players that can make us proud again for the next 5 yrs at least Couple with that if the likes of Guzan and Hutton can show what the managers saw in them in the first place (and in Huttons case, his performances have been vastly over exxagerated on here, since about November he has done OK) then I can see a bright future. Oh my god - shoot me, it must be a court marshall offence here to actually support the club at the moment. !!!
  8. when was this? I'd struggle to think of any league game when we fielded more than 3 or 4. I seem to remeber us playing Baker, Hogg, Allbrighton, Clark, Bannan, Herd and Delph under Houllier. I may be wrong though but I think the previous poster was right though I think that was only once or twice. certainly we had to play about 4 at a time for some games which did not help. Injuries were really bad under Houllier though, the worst for many seasons. McLeish does not have that excuse. The more I watch Villa the more I understand why Houllier wanted to get rid of Dunne, Collins and Warnock and rebulid the defence. Apart from Dunne this season the back four have not been good enough for me So, as opposed to the other week when we played Guzan, Clark, Bannan, Alby, Gardner and brought on Weimann. As said, it seems to me people just cannot see any good in McLeish, no matter what the facts say. By the way, talking of that, again, why do people just post the negatives. All I hear is McLeish took the Blues down twice and finished 3rd with Rangers in a two horse race. What I never hear is that he won the cup with Blues, got Motherwell to 2nd, thus getting a smaller side to finish 2nd in what is apparently a two horse race, won two leagues, two Scottish cups and 3 league cups with Rangers, and had a very credible record as international manager for Scotland, in which he beat France away and only lost out on a world cup place by losing a decider with Italy (who then went on to be losing finalists). So considering this guy has got no footballing brain - gotta say, he must be a genius to achieve that lot. Just remember, Redknapp got relegated with West Ham and Southampton, and most on here last year were slagging him off for playing dour, hoof ball to Crouch's head. hmmm............
  9. The top one is hideous ! The bottom home isn't that nice but would be acceptable. The away NEVER Yellow = SHA
  10. So. a serious question. If we get Macron, as expected, and lets say if the two kits were the ones just posted (which i agree are lovely and if they were, I would probably buy both, when I havent bought a kit in 4yrs) and If we could buy it in June. Would people on here actually stop moaning and agree that Macron was actually a good decision. The point I am trying to make is what I said previous, what matters is the look of the kit, not who makes them.
  11. Not personally at you but how many more times???? Luke Young WANTED to leave to return to London. Hence we sold him! and I will add to that - it was the last manager, who apparently some people on here thought was taking us places that actually promised him he could leave this time last year !
  12. McLeish hasnt had the injuries that Houllier had ??? So Bent didn;t miss a month , Given didn't miss five weeks, we didn't sign Jenas only for him to crock himself for a year, we didn't lose Lichaj for 4 months, or Herd for two, or Collins for what seems like every other week, or heskey for 3 months...............shall I go on or leave it at that. God, I know he isn;t Jose Mourinho, but some of the criticism put his way is ridiculous
  13. The problem is have you ever been to Newcastle, apart from the football team there is sod all else to do up there, and if you want to support another club, its probably closer to get to Reykyavic than anywhere else. Unfortunately, if you live in Brum you can get to London or Manchester within 90 mins and therefore we are always going to lose out to those clubs, until we have success.
  14. Yet again, its whether you just want to follow the negativity crowd, or actually look at the facts. Over the past few games, Hutton has played very well. In fact, before he was sent off he was possibly MOTM v Arsenal at home. The issue is he is making one mistake per game that is usually leading to a goal. I have seen a vast improvement since mid December in his performance, probably down to him getting his fitness. If he can just cut out the stupid mistakes, then he will be fine. It can't particularly help that he has probably never played with the same player twice - is he alongside Cueller , or Collins , has he in front of him Ireland, Nzogbia, Baggy, Alby - it changes everyweek. Until we have a settled side and players can strike up understanding, I dont think you can actually judge yet. But, naargh, I'll just follow the crowd - its all shit !
  15. this is a good idea, but it depends on if you want to go on morals or business as to whether we are hitting the right market. Morally - its a great idea , giving tickets to inner city kids, trying to reward them for staying on straight and narrow etc... Could keep a lot of kids out of a life of crime Good idea Commercially - and unfortunately, in the real world. Are we hitting the right market. Surely the point is, give away about 1000 tickets in the hope that 200 return a few more times and 100 of them become future ST holders. If this is the case, then surely we should be hitting the commuter belt fans who have a bit of money. The places like Cannock , Rugeley, Lichfield etc.. Whereby the parents are afluent , unfortunately, they then spend their dough in buying a Man Utd shirt for their kids as thats who they support on the tele. They are the ones that can bring the money in. As I said, it depends on the reason we are doing it as to whether it is a good idea or a bad one.
  16. want! Dreaming TBH. Were no longer a target for the "big 3" manufacturers (Nike, Umbro, Adidas) To be fair, if the club asked fans want they want and use then ideas, any kit maker can make a decent kit I beg to differ !. The club asked fans on what the new badge should look like, and we come up with the utter ameteurish no identity disgrace we have now ! And onto the kit - does it really matter who makes it - the answer is a resounding NO. Lets take Taccini and Kappa. 25 years ago these were THE two labels to wear as a kid in Brum. All the tennis gear was the rage and you had Taccini Edberg, Kappa Lendl (or whatever combination it was) etc.... About 5 yrs ago, I noticed Kappa and Taccini were all over the likes of Sports Soccer going for about a fiver for a pair of trainers. Now, me being 41, thought - bargain, a "cool" make for a fiver, I'll have a bit of that. Only to be told by my 9yr old daughter that no one wears that stuff anymore - it's all Nike, Adidas, Puma etc... Roll on 5 years, and what happens - Kappa and Taccini are all "cool" again, and now them trainers are about 50 quid !!!!!. And the likes of Djokovic have got it tattoed all over their body Similar note - I'd never heard of "Supadry" until the other day. Until my son wanted a bloody coat and it had to be Superdry - yeah, a kids coat for £120 !!!!. In summary - who gives a flying f.... who makes our kit. It dont matter, what is cool today, will be crap tomorrow. Sorry to tell you folks, but unless you are aged between 13-18 - you haven't got a clue what is "cool" - you are like me, a middle aged guy who "thinks" he knows. And I can tell you this, your nikes, Adidas's etc.. are not that cool, As a Villa fan, all I care about is that it has a claret body, blue sleeves and white shorts. And as long as it is that - primark can make it for all I care !
  17. this is totally disrespectful !. Dunne has been a very good player for us in the 4 yrs he has been here. As yesterday, he makes the odd error, but , as yesterday, that odd error usually is sandwiched between about 10 times he bails his other defenders out of trouble !. Ask any of the Irish side, or Irish experts who the first name on the team sheet should be, and the answer is Dunne - Ray Houghton actually said this about a month ago. Said about how he is the leader, how all the other players look up to him, how he is Mr Dependable. You ask Paul McGrath what he thinks about Richard Dunne !. He is, what , 33 - it is obvious his better years are behind him - but dont try telling me he is crap. I think i am right in saying apart from last year he was always in the top 2 of our player of the year wasn;t he - and that was when we had Young, Milner, Barry, Downing,Friedal and all So dont try telling me he is crap !
  18. Sorry Amo, not specifically aimed at you, just the general atmosphere on here. It cant be a coincidence we have won 4 out of 6 away, and that includes today which for 83 mins was a very good performance. At home - thats a different matter - the players look scared stiff to make a mistake because the crowd will be on their backs. Take last week, Clark was done like a kipper by Frimpong for the goal, but the away fans sang their hearts out, kept with the team and look what happened. If that happened at home, their would be booing, slagging off etc...... I am no McLeish lover, dont get me wrong. I said and will maintain I will NEVER sing his name. But at the moment it seems to me the fans are killing this club, not McLeish - they are willing him, and therefore, the players to fail. We are as bad as Blackburn at the moment. And people, and I will name some - Brummybloke, Onlyone , youself to a certain extent, and others need to wake up and see it.
  19. Yeah , you are right it could - as we are 9 points off it. Then again, we are also 9 points off Arsenal who are attempting to get in the Champions League and if we win on Wednesday, which we really should do, we will go 8th. But dont let positivity get in your way of a good dose of moaning.
  20. I think you might want to have another look at this!! Thankfully Graham Turner only got one, very brief go. Graham T*$£~@# on the other hand...don't get me started!! ARE YOU SERIOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Surely to god this has got to be a wind up - either that or you are less than 21 yrs old. Jesus christ man, I'll tell you this for nothing, and believe me, it is a 100% fact ! If it wasn't for Graham Taylor, we wouldn't have even been playing Arsenal today - coz we'd have already been knocked out in round 1 by Fleetwood, Accrington or similar !!!!. Or, maybe even , we would have been playing yesterday under the name "FC Villa of Aston" Jesus, some people get my goat !
  21. Strange game, which was decided on mistakes, as I thought it would be. Their defence was shocking and we took advantage. Our defence was great first half, before indiviual errors took over second half. I think there was a lot of positives, with a few negatives, and we have known the negatives for about 2 years. Warnock is a liability , Dunne keeps the defence together but is prone to the odd error, Ireland is either a world beater (first half) or anonymous (second half) etc...... We were playing Arsenal away, we showed great strides for 80 mins only to let ourselves down for 10. Lets see what Wednesday brings. I actually voted for Dunne as motm even though he ultimately cost us the game (if he hadn't conceded that pen, and we had held out for about another 5 mins, i think it would have been game over). But the rest of the game, he got Warnock , Hutton and Cueller off the hook time after time, so I'll cut him some slack. I'm disappointed in the result, but I think we are slowly getting there.
  22. Obviously needs replacing quickly. I'd get to 40 points as quick as we can and give Lichaj the rest of the season to show what he can do.
  23. I came on here expecting the usual people to be on here slagging McLeish off again for no reason and I;m glad to see I am mostly wrong. Today was not down to McLeish, everything was spot on until the defence capitulated - and that, as said many times, was down to silly individual errors that nowt could be done. Shame about the result, but if we have 4 points on the board come this time next week, this will be a long lost memory And for those who will slag the manager off. Think this, we all know Warnock is a liability and needs replacing. He dropped him , so it must be in his mind as well. He then comes on at hald time last week and plays the game of his life. So he holds his position, and today, is mostly poor again. But come on, if McLeish had have dropped him after last week, you'd have been going potty - this is what I mean, no matter what happens, the guy cant win with some people
