  1. Been a ST holder for the past 5 seasons with my son but we've decided to pick and choose our games this season and got to say after today's game I'm glad of it. Today was always going to be difficult, Everton are flying and have a fully fit squad, which has been their problem over the past couple of seasons, and after seeing our starting 11 it was no surprise to see them take the game to us early on. Their back four screamed experience, Distan, Jagielka, Neville and Baines, our back four are still in nappies in comparison, as is our midfield. Upfront wasn't much better either, Jelavic is as hot as is gets, compared to the jaded Darren Bent who must be thinking it's time to ship on out of the Midlands. Given - 4 At fault for at least 2 of the goals, I was sat in the North Stand and thought he would get to Pienarr's shot all day, Fellaini's header should have been dealt with comfortably. A good save from close range in the second half from Pienarr. Lowton - 6 Difficult home debut, looked shaky from the kick of when harrassed by Pienarr but grew in confidence. Clark - 4 Do we ever win when this guy plays? Looked slow and lightweight, this horse isn't ready yet ... Vlarr - 7 Liked the look of Ron, a few worrying Collinsesque crossfield balls that ran straight out of play, but that may have been because the target was a centre half playing at left back ... Baker - 6 - Did well considering and put in some goal saving tackles early in the first half, looked much better at centre half after Clark was red carded. Zog - 4 - Loses possession too often, one good run in the first half with no end product ... same old yawn. El Ahmadi - 8 - I felt sorry for this guy, worked hard, got little protection from the ref and was constantly let down by teammates, scored a decent goal and looks up for the fight! Hooray a positive! *** Herd - 6 - Always tries hard but was way played out of position which made the game difficult for him against top opposition. Bannan - 5 - Not strong enough to play in a 4 in the middle, I'd like to see him play behind the striker. Fonz - 4 - I'm not sure what the point was in playing him, he never offers anything. Bent - 4 - Mainly static, doesn't get involved in any build up play, the one lay off I remember him playing almost put us in trouble. Holman - 6 - At least he put himself about and inspired a few around him in a decent spell when the game was in fairness, dead. Wiemann - 6 - I like Andy, fail to see how he was on the bench with Delfounso starting, he's lively and has a great shot. Lichaj - 6 - Did well and is a much better option at LB than Baker. Newcastle away doesn't look too inviting on this form, we need at least one experienced PL midfield campaigner in there and quick ... over to you Randy.
  2. I'll be really pleased if Lambert gets the job, 12 months too late, but better late than never I guess. I've taken the decision not to re-new this season though and that's not going to change, I bought early last year as usual, trusted the club and got McLeish, plus inevitably the worst season in living memory at VP. I will wait and see if Lerner and his cronies back Lambert in the transfer market and take advantage of the multiple ticket offers that seem to happen every week instead. The board have got a lot of work to do convince me and lots of others they have what it takes to turn it around, but Lambert is a start, a step in the right direction. Now they have to trust him and back him, let him get rid of the bad apples in the squad and do it his way, otherwise we could be here again this time next year ...
  3. I'm confused, OGS has ruled out being our manager according to the BBC are these reports dodgy? Personally I wouldn't put a £1 on who was going to be our next manager, this is the board that appointed Alex McLeish!! Who in their right mind would have thought that would be a good idea, no one but they still did it ... we will just have to wait and see, my ST money is staying where it is until we appoint a credible man and give him some serious cash to spend.
  4. I think we've dropped the 'proven premier league experience' criteria then ...
  5. I saw Boulding score too. Also, saw Nii Lamptey score at the sty in a friendly, I was in the blose end sat on my hands all the way through. On a different tack, I remember seeing Mellberg for the first time, we were sat next to the tunnel in the game that we won the Intertoto, FC Zurich? He just stood at the mouth of the tunnel in a black polo neck jumper taking it all in. What a player he was to go on to be for us!
  6. My son was supposed to play in a final at 12pm today which has been called off due to a fire at Chelmsley Town FC. I'm after a couple of tickets if anyone can help! (I know it's a long shot!!) :-(
  7. The decision to get him in was so bad in the first place that I don't think this board can admit their mistake and come out of it with any credibility. Therefore, like it or not I think we're stuck with him for the forseeable :-(
  8. Did well tonight in midfield considering he's so one footed and tried to push us forward, fair play to him. Even saw him picking Emile up at one point, his interview on avtv was interesting too, at least he seems up for the fight.
  9. If they sack McLeish and bring in a manager who wants to play football I will renew, Championship or not. Stick with this clown and and they've no chance. I'm wondering how many of the no's are multiples as I buy my sons ST and there are three others who sit with us that aren't renewing either so you can add another 4 on to the NO list at least.
  10. I voted No because of McLeish. (but I'm sure I'll be tempted around ST deadline day, I only renewed this season on the final day) I will not be wasting another £500+ next season to watch us surrender to the top 6 and be outplayed by teams coming up from the Championship, and boring us to death against the rest. It's been a truly depressing experience this term. I don't buy the injury excuse either, when he had a fit squad he didn't know who to play where or how to get the best out of the team, Bent on his own, Gabby on the wing?, Warnock on the pitch?, Hutton ... bjesus, Nzogbia? the list is fecking endless. After all that I still can't believe we've appointed a manager with two Premiership relegations on his cv, who next? Mcarthy? How about Dave Bassett? Shit manager, shit results, if he's still here next season we are as good as fooked and I don't want to be around to see it. :-(
  11. Hard to believe I know, we're so lucky have him ... http://tinyurl.com/from-the-Beeb
  12. This guy's performance today was laughable, he absolutely shit himself when sent through into space on the halfway line, he seemed to turn into some sort of Tommy Cooper impersonator, then fell over. He can't attack, pass or defend, there was one glaring mis-timed tackle in the 2nd half where the ball hadn't even deviated one way and he missed the ball by a mile, just embarrassing. The tit of a manager said it was a coup for a club the size of Aston Villa to be attracting this clearing in the woods, sums up both the manager and the player, utterly clueless.:-(
  13. The ref was awful from the first minute, he missed at least two corners in the first half and it seemed every time a Chelsea player fell over he blew up. I thought the overall performance was good considering the experience we had out there against a team that are in the qtr final of the chumps league. My ratings: Given - Good save from Torres early doors, lacks command of his area especially at set pieces. :6 Lichaj - Great performance, showed willing to get forward, good long throws and got a goal by gambling and following in. :8 Collins - Good showed some heart and made a nuisance of himself up front late on, no idea why a foul was given against him on Torres in a dangerous position. :7 Baker - Looked the novice he of course is, caught out of position frequently in the first 20 mins, improved in the 2nd half. :5 Warnock - Steady at best, awful crosses, caught too far forward early on exposing young Baker :6 Herd - Not good enough, woeful passing when in good positions. :5 Ireland - Best I've seen him, great effort even when the chips were down, quality on the ball not matched by his teamates. :8 Bannan - Played out wide and did his best out there, some good corners :6 Gardner - Played out wide not his best position and struggled when pushed onto his left foot, good effort though. :6 Wiemann - Great effort, I think this boy will score goals, good curving run to get himself in behind in the first half, never stopped running. Set up gabby for best chance of the first half :7 Gabby - Tried, should have done better with a chance that turned out to be offside, unlucky with a shot deflected onto the bar by Cech :6 Albrighton - Fantastic impact, great crosses - super sub is his best role! :8 Heskey - Brought a goal kick down on his chest (and actually got a foul from the ref!) in a dangerous position, good flick header brought a save from Cech. :6
  14. This has truly been a season to forget, awful news, best wishes to Stan, his family and his friends, we'll be singing our hearts out for you tomorrow.
  15. Fair play, I know I'm going to miss it :-( I just can't stomach this manager, it feels more like we have gone back to the O'dreary days more and more every week.
