  1. I hope we don’t boo him. I really do. It’s just so small time. I fully appreciate what he did for us but I also fully understand why he had to leave. Whatever happens now isn’t going to change anything. Let’s just enjoy our new Villa, post Grealish and get behind our lads. UTV. COYVB
  2. I didn’t realise they were so close in age. It looks as though Tim is 2.5 years younger. Maybe have Doucoure for a couple of years with Tim as the successor. Then hopefully sell Doucoure at a large profit.
  3. I hope we may renew our interest in Cheik Doucoure. He is exactly what we need to play six. He is so good at winning the ball back, he’s physical but he can also play. Still young too. If we could sign him and McKennie the energy in our midfield would double instantly.
  4. I wonder if we will go back in for Cheik Doucoure in Jan. He is young but always looks good.
  5. Was it definitely sexual assault? I would be very surprised that Brighton are still picking him if that’s the alleged offence
  6. Having more than 1 good striker when your midfield is poor is the point though. Why spend £25m on a bloke who you don’t need as much as a couple of centre mids! It’s literally not that difficult to understand!
  7. Where would you play him and what would that mean for Ollie? I can only speak for myself but my view is you can only play one of them. Our need is much greater elsewhere and thus that is why I am confused by his signing.
  8. Not a joke at all. I am 100% serious. I am certain that we can only play either him or Ollie. Ollie has a better all round game to play that lone striker role. Therefore Ings is back up. I doubt he will want that. We should cash in whilst we can still recover our outlay. It’s nothing against him. I just don’t think his game suits a 4-3-3 unless he is the CF. It’s the same for Ollie. They can’t both play there.
  9. It’s interesting that Gerrard chose to say that about Sanson. It felt a little bit political but it could just be totally innocent. Until this guy plays a number of games consecutively and plays well, the conspiracy theories will continue. Hopefully he will put them to bed soon by proving his worth on the pitch.
  10. Ollie looks like a player who has totally lost all of his confidence. It’s painful to watch him sometimes as you can see him over thinking everything, rather than just naturally playing his game. Hopefully the goal will do him good. He is a good player when he is on form. He has to play down the middle though. I know that he tends to drift into the left channel a lot but that is different to playing as a dedicated left forward. He is not good enough. His goal was actually a good example of this. He played with his head down and never looked up once. His whole focus was getting into a position to get his shot away, which of course he did do brilliantly but if we are being hypocritical he should have passed to Bailey who would have had a simple tap in. He is technically not good enough to play as a left forward and he doesn’t have the intelligence to play there either. He is what he is which is a hard working, nuisance of a nine who will score goals if he gets enough chances. We need to let him play down the middle and make sure that whatever we do behind him is dedicated to getting the best out of him. Where that leaves Ings, who knows. I would happily sell him and replace him with a Young up and coming player who is happy to play back up to Ollie.
  11. I never understood this signing. Nothing has happened to change my mind. He just doesn’t suit us in any way. I would get rid in January if a decent offer came in. I reckon we could offload him to Newcastle with a bit of luck. I think he is a decent player and a good goal scorer but he just doesn’t fit into our squad at all.
  12. They had a 0.3 expected goals. That the lowest we have conceded all season I think. Quite a turn around in such a short space of time. Until we can sort out the midfield it’s always going to be better to keep it tight and try to nick wins. Great start. Well done Stevie G. Impact!
  13. He will be better when we have a midfield that can dominate. His ability to unlock defences will come to the fore then. He is clearly struggling but he keeps trying hard. That’s the most important thing at the moment.
  14. Fair enough mate. So do you think that Purslow gave the job to Gerrard because he is a mate? Just as a side point. This process probably started way before Dean was sacked. They must have a succession plan.
  15. Purslow is a ruthless business man. His overwhelming driver is personal success. You don’t get into his position in life by giving pivotal roles within your organisation to mates. This decision has also been a joint one involving our two owners who are also ruthless business men who will only be interested in protecting and growing their asset. There are lots of sources who claim that we received some very high quality applicants for the role. We don’t know their circumstances but choosing Gerrard was not an easy decision. It involved paying a large sum of money to extricate him from his existing position. They would not have done this unless they were certain of his credentials. There’s no doubt that they will have chosen the person that they thought was most likely to be successful. 100%. So it’s just a question of judgement really. We have to hope that theirs is good.
  16. I really want to believe that this guy can still come good but if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck etc, well then at what stage do we accept that it’s a duck?! If he can’t be bothered for a new manager, then he can quack off!
  17. But he was romantically nourished! Don’t forget that!
  18. Him and McGinn both seem to struggle a bit with their weight. They both need to be in peak condition to be effective but both seem to have prolonged periods where peak fitness eludes them. I suspect Stevie G will have a bit to say about that!
  19. I could never understand why we let him go. He is a class player. I met him once in a bar in Sutton Coldfield. He was with Peter Whittingham, God rest his soul. Both really good lads.
  20. What a first interview. He is so focused and determined. I love the fact that he said we will be aggressive which is something we have really lacked in recent times. I also love the fact that he says there are no excuses for underperforming. If you are still not sure about Gerrard then please go and watch the interview. I am so excited now. Roll on Saturday!
  21. If we really do only have £5m available to spend in Jan then the signing of Ings makes even less sense. Spending £25m on a striker who doesn’t suit your style when your midfield is broken, when you have no additional money to fix it, is ridiculous. Someone deserves the sack over that decision. I mean no disrespect to Ings at all, who is decent at what he does and seems like a really good bloke but I would try and send him to the NE in January. I could see him being a really good fit for Newcastle and we could probably make a profit on him with their new found wealth. I don’t think that will make our January situation any brighter but it will have a positive impact upon our summer spending capability.
  22. He’s always talked of the club in a very complimentary manner. Always shown us the upmost respect. His last spell at the club was unfortunate due to lots of factors but he was a really good footballer and I think he will slot in nicely.
  23. I watch quite a lot of Rangers and I genuinely don’t think any of their players improve us. Hopefully we will steer clear of them. I really hope we just do the right thing and invest some serious cash on a centre mid. I would much rather we buy one really good player in a key position than 3/4 average players.
