I've never been sold on going back to the circle badge, it's been a shield my entire life and I actually quite like the current one (albeit a few quibbles like the border should be claret and the lion and background should contrast more), plus I've always been worried we'd end up with a City knock off badge as the trend has been for a lot of clubs recently, but have to say if we end up with something like these top two from twitter I'd be quite happy. Starmer's had more incumbent by-elections however, most under Miliband and Corbyn were Labour by-elections. Milliband had 5/19 in 5 years, Corbyn 4/14 in 4 years and Starmer's had 6/9 in 2 years. I feel it's easier to win from an incumbent when the incumbent's are dropping like flies.

Because no one wanted the job, even Southgate seemed reluctant at the time. It's easy to forget that the team Hodgson/Allardyce left behind was pretty shit, and most of England's best/most exciting players have emerged over the past 6 years. Edit - On that last point, looking at the current England set up, I'd say only Walker, Henderson, Sterling and Kane were playing a regularly and at a level good enough for England when Southgate took over.
