  1. I'm guessing they've already forgotten the semi final then Hopefully teams like Liverpool take heed of their fans opinions on Benteke though, just stay clear from him, go get someone better from Europe
  2. Kind of weird that this is being reported by Sky News, yet Sky Sports News have not mentioned it at all yet, on TV, their site or Twitter.
  3. Strange, but if this group is also looking to invest in Sporting and Inter, perhaps it shows they have some serious-ish cash backing them. Don't like the idea of them buying us with a loan though. Little bit underwhelming and bizarre. Kind of hoping that this is just something to flush out some more serious buyers.
  4. We'd finish 10th or 11th. Which I'd take in a heartbeat! If we somehow managed to keep Sherwoods current record up for an entire season, we'd have 57 points. In the last 5 seasons that would have got us 7/8th for all but the 09/10 season, where it would have got 9th. Even this season, 57 guarantees at least 8th. If we managed to sustain our current form over next season, we'd almost definitely get 8th, although I doubt Sherwood will manage to keep this up over an entire season. I'd take 12th or above next season. Edit: Done that working out wrong, it would get us 50 points, which is probably a little low for 8th.
  5. But if the manager is under pressure, surely he can't go... To be fair to Keane, he did say IF he was somehow linked to that manager's job.
  6. How about Utd at home when he turned Evans inside out, coulda used that
  7. You mean the very first opportunity to win the league and play in the Champions League? You begrudge him his medals? Or wanting to win them to begin with? of course not but this opinion that people have that Milner is some sort of diehard Villa fan or even a Villa legend is sad and pathetic. some Villa fans hold this guy in better regards than Barry In terms of what they've given the club there's no doubt barry is head and shoulders above Milner and don't think any Villa fan would dispute that. It's easy to see why some don't hold Barry in high regard, though - due to the way they left the club. Barry opened his gob, talked a lot of bull, went to the press, got suspended from training, was disruprive, etc. etc. Milner kept quiet, was thoroughly professional, played for Villa a couple of days before he left and gave his all, as always, not pulling a Dwight Yorke. So there's more context here than simply what Barry or Milner have given Villa throughout the years. Yeah, Milner kept quiet, let his transfer drag out until the season started, didn't hand in a transfer request when he obviously wanted to leave so he could get that fat pay off, left the transfer so late that our manager walked about a week before the first game because of it (supposedly), such a better way to leave, I mean he only screwed over the club and fans to get more money. I'd have loads more respect for the way Downing left if it wasn't for the fact he said he was staying no matter what about 2 weeks beforehand. As for the leaving for CL and title nonsense, yes he got it eventually, and in hindsight Man City would have obviously been a much better choice than us at the time, but people should remember that the season before Milner left, Man City were in the heady heights of 5th and finished 3 points ahead of us. We even took the lead at the Etihad with about 3 games to go that season, if we'd won that game I think we could've finished above them (not sure if it was just that result or not). It's not as if he was leaving to go directly to title challengers and immediately get CL football, a la Young or Yorke, he was going to what seemed a direct rival at the time, though it quickly became apparent that they weren't any more. Some act as if by leaving he instantly got all those things, well it took a while for it to happen (a short while granted). The only apparent thing at the time that Man City were in a better position for was money, everything else at the time was practically the same. I know this is massively OT for the Sherwood thread but the Milner stuff on this forum does my head in some times, yeah he was very good in that one season, but the way people talk about him is pathetic. Face it, he doesn't give a shit about the club or fans, and he's never coming back until we can afford to pay him silly money.
  8. Personally, it's the fans more than the club itself. I quite like Newcastle and would like to see them do well, just that the fans are so delusional that it's funny watching them explode so spectacularly and watching them get their way and do even worse Newcastle are a good club and a big one too, but the fans seem to think they're in the Utd/Arsenal bracket, not the one they're in consisting of teams like us, Everton and maybe Spuds.
  9. And out of the three, they're the team that was most recently relegated too As for what you mentioned, Us and Everton have both had decent Euro runs in recent years (albeit Europa not CL), both have higher record transfers than Newcastle (both more recently too), the only reason they have such a big fanbase is they're the only good team for miles, and in recent years have had just as many big names us and Everton. Given all that, I think most fans would have Us, Everton and Newcastle roughly on par. The only reason we might be seen as "lower" is we've been dogshite these last couple seasons, but so have Newcastle.
  10. Pretty sure that was disproved at the time with a pic of him next to the pitch. I think it was anyway. Edit: Looked back through this thread, no picture, but there was a tweet from Nick Mashiter, journo for the Independant, confirming he was in the players box, so the Mirror is full of bullshit. Also, why would they wait a month to report that, I doubt if it was true it would have been kept a secret, hell there were rumours at the time.
  11. With all the stuff about win ratios when he came in, although it's only been 12 games, he currently has a 50% win ratio, better than any other manager in our history Now I'm not saying he's our messiah or anything, but...
  12. He's slowly getting better defensively, which is currently his major weakness, still only 23 so has plenty of time to learn, luckily he has the aspects that can't be coached (athleticism, strength, pace, natural ball skills) and lacks the aspects that can (tackling, positioning etc.). With the right training he could become a class RB.
  13. Promoted to League 1 as champions today, Hasselbaink is doing a great job, hopefully he can keep them up next season and maybe push them towards the championship. Also they have an ex-Villa player in Adam McGurk too. Only live about 15 minutes away from their ground, so really chuffed to see them climbing the leagues. Plus their badge is brilliant Well done the Brewers
  14. Wat? Shirley they want Rodgers to stay. Apparently it was to embarrass the Plop fans or something like that, not seen a real explanation why they'd do it, just Plop fans adamant that it was Utd fans, could just be trying to distance themselves I suppose.
  15. Apparently it was done by some Utd fans, funny none the less though
  16. Been shite for the last 3 seasons whilst picking up £60k+ pw in wages. The way he couldn't wait to mouth off to the media about the club when he joined Derby. The time when he was injured during our relegation battle under McLeish and decided shopping was more productive than supporting his team mates. Apart from his first 6 months, just generally being a drag on the club really.
  17. Hope he decides to stay, been great since Sherwood came in. He told the OS that he's been mates with Delph since they were both at the same team at youth level, hopefully Delph can do his captain duties and convince him to stay. Though Paul Merson reckons he's off to London, because his girlfriend is from Essex...
  18. They also had a good manager in Hughton to bring them back up, and don't forget that was Carroll's breakthrough season. Can't see Carver bringing them back up, or a manager come in that will. I think there only hope if they go down is this Adam Armstrong fella in their youth team, supposed to be very good, and they might need him to do a Carroll for them.
  19. by the looks of it he has lost the dressing room a long long time ago And telling everyone that some players are getting sent off on purpose is a sure fire way to win them back over
  20. It's almost as if playing with a striker that when he doesn't score is a complete passenger, is actually a hindrance. Huh, who'da thunk!
  21. Carver's lost the plot already, you don't start telling the world your players aren't up for the remaining games when you're in the relegation battle. Why would the players want to play for him now? You need team spirit in situations like they're in, and you don't get that by putting the players on blast to the media. 8 games lost in a row now, I can see that extending to 11.
  22. QPR and Burnley need to win every game now to finish above us, with us losing all 3, now we need stay above one of the other four, and with how we're playing should easily stay up now.
  23. Coleman was literally holding Given's arm down so he couldn't catch it.
  24. Coleman was holding his **** arm, how was that not a free kick!!!
  25. Clattenburg must have had a bet on for first yellow card 72 minutes, baffling that that was the first one!
