We seem to have had a mentality issue for 20 odd years

That is because the majority of our club has never played in the premier league and are all young.

Who has been the worst signing...Nakamba for me. The ultimate "don't give the ball to me" kinda player I've ever seen.

Nakamba was playing Left mid today. I have no idea why.

When played at DM, he has been decent, but yes he is very nervy on the ball and prefers just the simple pass.

  3. Dean is frustrating, and has made mistakes that has cost us points, but our season isn't solely down to him. The players we have bought, and the general recruitment has been iffy. I know as a newly promoted club, it can be difficult to sign quality players, so you have to take risks. Problem with our signings was most were either too young and inexperienced, or just not good enough to begin with. Dean to his credit hasn't moaned about the players or the quality, and he has been willing to change up his tactics and set ups to try to accommodate these players' shortcomings. I mean look how many individual errors has cost us points. Even just half those errors gone, and we are 4 points clear of relegation. That is not on Dean entirely.

All in all, I don't want Dean gone just yet. If we get relegated, there is really no better manager for the championship that would actually be willing to join us. Let Dean see out the season. He gave us hope last season when we thought there was none. He deserves a full go at the league imo, and if we go down and can't get a bigger name to manage us, let Dean have half a season.

  4. He came on, and was tidy on the ball. Kept the flow moving and allowed us to get forward every time he got it. Also got an assist albeit a bit lucky with the goal, but it's still a goal.

As mentioned above, Conor should have started today. Any match where we might have the ball, Conor starts. If our primary goal is to hit on the counter and defend, Conor is not your man.

  5. It's simple, Jack I believe we have a gentlemen's agreement to sell if we go down, but we will need at least £50-60m for him.

Mings cost us a lot. We'd be insane to let Mings go for less than what we paid for him. Having Mings in the championship would at least make us competitive which is so important.

McGinn I could see us selling for less than what we think. We paid very little for him, but apparently there is a hefty sell on clause. I think McGinn could go for £20-30m.

Why did he come to us in the first place then?

A chance to play in the premier league... He couldn't get a work permit and with us offering such a huge sum for him, he could finally get one. He has also spoken he sees us as a stepping stone, and during the covid break, I think I remember reading he would want to stay in the premier league if we went down.

  7. He doesn't care about us. He'd jump ship immediately. He has something to play for now since we can actually be relegated and he wants to stay in the premier league.

He's a monstrous coward mate. Got the ability to play but doesn't want to in case he loses the ball, so he doesn't bother.

Huge fan of Westwood here btw. Opposite attitude to Hourihane. Spent his whole villa career being brave and getting on the ball while most players ran the other way, wanting nothing to do with it. Was always clearly a PL player unlike this wally.

Nothing has changed in Conor's playing style fyi. In the matches we lost in the championship, it was the same rhetoric. Conor doesn't tackle, he doesn't chase, etc. Why did anyone think that would change in the premier league against better opponents? He is a #10. It's not like people expect Sigurdsson to do those types of tackles and runs.

I think he is better than that. Unfortunately, quite often he is reduced to just chasing after aimless punts up the pitch with little chance of getting onto them. At least he does chase them, but I think that plays into the view of him as just being some headless chicken.

That is a fair point, but that is pretty much all we see from him. We need some elite winger because we give such terrible support to our forwards, and unfortunately Trez is not that player. Only someone like Jack is able to shine in this team because he genuinely is a talent.

  10. I understand why Westwood said Villa fans are the worst.

You've watched a player play a way that got him recognized and promoted from league 1 to the premier league, and now his style is suddenly shit and he is a coward. Conor just doesn't suit the way we need him to play in the premier league. Doesn't make him a coward. He was never a tackler. Effort and stamina won't suddenly make him able to tackle and do things. Look at Trezeguet. He runs, but does absolutely nothing.

  11. He played in a peach of a ball twice today that Tammy would have finished last season. That is the main difference between this season and last. El Ghazi is still very much a player that does nothing all match, but pops up with a few great chances each match, but we have no one finishing those chances this season.

At least he tries, which is more than i can say for a lot of the team

Running up and down the field doing nothing but with effort accomplishes nothing. Trez has nothing to him. He just tries to sprint down the line and hope for the best. He is so one dimensional. He is a horrid winger.

  13. Some of you are nuts.

We played Chelsea. Conor is a fringe championship/premier league player. Playing a champions league club with players who arguably belong in the championship will result in a negative performance 9 out of 10 times.

Conor was invisible today as he often is against the better clubs but so was the whole team. In a match where we were under pressure and had little of the ball, a player like Conor is useless. This is on Dean. Conor had more touches than Jack and McGinn but it doesn't mean much. Our whole midfield was awful offensively and obviously conor isn't going to do much to help defensively. We know this. How is it possible this happens so many times this season, and yet Conor keeps playing against these types of clubs? Where did conor have his best matches? It was against clubs in the bottom 6. No surprise there. When we have the ball against clubs of similar quality, Conor is decent. That is the only time he should be starting.

I am sick of it. Stop blaming our players. This was poor management and recruitment. Just because Conor had one okay match against a club he played in the championship last season, doesn't mean he can do it against Kante.

  14. We truly lack a leadership figure. Cahill would have done a lot for this group. Even if he wasn't up for being a starter week in week out, having a calm head is worth it.

Look at our club, we went from having the likes of Whelan, Jedinak, Adomah, Elphick, Chester to now just Elmo and Taylor.

  15. I started watching re zero.  So far I am really into it.

I also gave sword art another try and made it to the most recent season before the virus stopped it. Sword art is entertaining but some of the earlier seasons have some major duds.
