  1. It's a shame we didn't sign Eberchi Eze instead of Palace because then we could have the full Pokemon Evolution. Eze > Chukwueze > Chukweumeka

  2. Viewing this thread after a few hours break is like returning to the office to 1000 emails - 99% of which are to do with cake/samosa sales and messages from building matenance moaning that someone has shit on the floor again.

  8. Once, on a particularly choppy cross-channel ferry (in the before-before time when such travel was even possible) I calmed my nerves by downing a large bottle of Bailey's purchased on sale from the on-board gift shop. It was delicious, it took my mind off of the water splashing through the external doors and despite warnings from my peers that a creamy beverage was perhaps not best suited to turbulent consumption, I didn't feel the need to vomit. So for that reason, I'm in.

  9. It's almost Orwellian. All transfers are possible, but some transfers are more possible than others.

  13. Looking at first few pages just now and interesting the reaction. Not people saying he's a cracking player which is good to see but more "I'd be amazed if this comes off" "Too good to be true" vibes. Why? Does seem an undercurrent of we're not worthy enough to sign these top level players compared to fans of other clubs who constantly demand top level players from CL teams. Yes Leverkusen are better than us but their whole business model is to scout across the world very well, sign players for a couple of million and then sell them for three or four times that amount after a few seasons. They obviously did it very well with Havertz and Berbatov to Spurs was another example about 15 years ago. In last five years Leicester have signed Tielemans just after Monaco have won french league, West Ham with Felipe Anderson when Lazio were playing CL and Newcastle signed Saint Maximn from Nice who made europa league so all examples there of clubs signing players from better performing clubs from abroad. Robinho to Man. City another obvious example. Feels like we need this sort of signing to break that sort of mentality in the fanbase. Of course we need to keep signing players with potential which served us well over last two years but too many and we'll always be 2/3 years away from finishing top 6 imo. Signing likes of Leon Bailey gets us there much much more quickly.

  14. I mean, he's 17 years old. Pigeon holing him into a set position at this stage would be daft.

  15. Who by? 14yo Ipswich fans? He seems a decent player and Norwich fans seem to think he works extremely well with Buendia. If we're interested (and thats a big 'if') then i'd trust the scouts.

  16. Just for fun: 1. Marcus Thuram - 23yo - Borussia Monchengladbach. French international who has two years left on his contract. Was highly expected to make a move to Spurs this summer, however with their Lamela swap move for Sevilla's Bryan Gil this may be off, unless Bergwijn is sold as well. 2. Jeremie Boga - 23yo - Sassulo. Ivory Coast international also with two years left on his deal in Italy. Pacey dribbler who had a bit of a down year this year compared to the seasonbefore last where he was considered an emerging star in Serie A. 3. Goncalo Guedes - 24yo - Valencia. Portugese international that is being offered around as Valencia unfortunately for them have a terrible owner and are likely to be happy to sell for the cash. Guedes also only has two years left on his contract. Was signed by PSG a few seasons ago but never cut it there before being sold on (still at a profit) to Valencia. 4. Mounir Chouiar - 22yo - Dijon. One of the best dribblers of the ball in Ligue 1. Much like Boga had a better 19-20 season than last year, this would be more of a speculative signing for depth with promise for improvement, rather than immediately ready for the first XI, so is more unlikely to occur. 5. Thiago Almada - 20yo - Velez. Another promising Argentinian prospect, currently with their national side at the Olympics. Has two years left on his contract and a £21.5m release clause. More of an attacking midfielder than a winger, he can play in any of those attacking three positions behind the striker. He would be more like Jack on the wings than an out-and-out wide player. Already an influential member of his team at such a young age. Was expected to go to Marseille earlier this window but they have very recently said they are not pursuing the player this summer. Other names we've been linked to in the past: Florinel Coman, Samuel Chukwueze

  17. We are in a good position with AEG. If a decent bid comes in we should sell him and cash in whilst he is possibly close to peak value. Otherwise let him be a useful part of the squad. He is a good pro and will continue to work hard even if he isn’t playing. It’s a pretty good position to be in.

  21. It's absolutely possible, you just need the right scouting. I'm sure everyone at Villa can see the weak spots of your team, just as Leicester fans can ours. So whilst you lose a great player, you can get better as a unit by targeting those weak spots. People saying ah but they dropped off after selling players when winning the league. If we'd kept that entire team together there would have been a drop off, there were too many limited players to keep that up indefinitely. We're in a far better place team wise, squad wise and as a club, having sold players and invested smartly to replace the limited players we had.

  22. Villa seemingly keep things ridiculously close to their chest these days, so the fact that Percy is reporting that he's 'on the list' is about as close to popping up at the back post as you're going to get until the signing is imminent. He's essentially making a break into the box from midfield, it's up to Villa as to whether they ultimately want to stand the ball up to him or not. Today's outbreak is most likely his agent putting the feelers out to Villa publicly and saying yes please, we'll have some of that dirty filthy cash cash money. I don't know an awful lot about Bailey, about as much as most of you I expect. But his reputation precedes him and the most exciting thing for me is the calibre of attacker we are looking at to complete the jigsaw. Buendia, ESR, Bailey, these aren't mugs. They're proper footballers, the kind that scream on the up. So whether it's Bailey or AN Other, I'm excited. But I would also like it done quickly please, so no pressure.

  23. No worries mate it was faux rage I had this vision of a "head of Jeremy football" at Villa. He focuses 100% on Jeremy players. In my head this was hilarious stuff. I was rolling. Apologies for any confusion

  26. I remember Buendia being my top target last summer after Norwich were relegated, ahead of Benrahma. I can't believe we actually got him after Norwich came back up and he just had his best season ever. Can't remember the last time we signed my dream signing.

  27. If “missing out” on ESR means we get Bailey instead, I’m more than happy with that. I wonder who our other targets could be… We need players that can make an impact and be better than what we have. For attacking players - reliable source of goals & assists, improve build up play and ball retention. Much like Buendia… But Bailey would give us something different: pace, power, finishing, trickery and he has a great shot on him… Always enjoy a long range goal or free kick and it’s a great weapon for winning “deadlocked” games…

  28. I cannot wait to see him play alongside Jack! They will have defences petrified if we could add another like Leon Bailey, the Premier League may as well give us the trophy now

  30. Sell him, not good enough, never was even before a near career ending injury, then watch him develop into a top class player signing for a top European or premier league team. I believe Spurs are about to sign a shit ex goalkeeper of ours, and let’s not forget Gueye, Veretout and Amavi who were not up to it. Apparently.

  33. I'm a big fan of cricket but The Hundred can GTFO T20 is 120 balls. Why do we need a new format slightly shorter. They're doing it for revenue and attracting new fans... but if those planks can't concentrate on 120 balls in T20 then what makes them think they'll like this? Its a format for the instant gratification Tik-Tok generation. /Victor Meldrew

  34. Not really, made them work hard and probably pay him more then they wanted too. Fairplay to him, full of admiration for him choosing to stay at his boyhood club rather then a big move to a bigger club, well done Arsenal, now **** off.

  36. It's highly unfair to write Wes off. Everyone bar Jack was pants that season and he barely got any chances. It's a shame he got clattered in the Burnley game as it was IMO his best performance outside of Everton/Norwich - linked up play well and looked a lot more confident. He's still a few years from his prime and his attitude from what we've seen to get back on course after such a devastating injury is a sign of a player who won't be content with just sitting on his ar5e. His style is also different to Watkins so it's good that we have a few different strikers (albeit of different attributes - Keinan the battering ram as the third). I can see confidence playing a massive part in his football. If you look at the transfers we made around that time and it's clear the mindset, in retrospect, wasn't as bad as we first thought: Targett, Mings, Konsa, Luiz - all now first teamers and we love them Nakamba, Hause, Trez, AEG - all valuable squad players Engels, Jota - gone That's an 80% success rate of the purchases. Wesley was the one we paid the most for, and the only one who has had an injury that's killed any momentum to be part of the growth of this side. I also feel that if he knocked in the penalty to get a hat trick vs Norwich then we'd be looking at things differently too - what wonders that would have done for him.
