  2. So Gregg Evans reporting that villa don't want to sell, want to offer him a new contract but will sell if it reaches £100 million. Can someone explain to me how those ideas don't contradict each other? Seems like a poor journalist just hedging his bets so either way he can claim he reported the correct news.

  5. Just looking at goals and assists isn't a great way of looking at it, as it tells you nothing of how players around him played. I still remember the Burnley game at home when he played through the middle and should've had about 10 assists. Anyway, actually breaking it down in to his per game chance creation (below is 2020/21 - on the wing in green v centre in blue), he's more of a goal threat on the wing, but creates way more chances and is more involved in our build up through the middle, so it would make sense that playing through the middle with an upgrade on El Ghazi and Traore would lead to better output. 2019/20 you could make more of a case that he was better on the left, but he was much more heavily relied on by us that season and he still created better chances when through the middle. Also, I really hate this trend on VT that anytime someone disagrees about a which position players would be better in or which players should start over others, it gets dismissed as "ahh, it's just cause he's better there on FIFA/FM", it just smacks of not being able to properly back up an argument, so it's easier to dismiss someone elses opinion as less valid. Edit - just to keep this on topic, I think someone like Smith-Rowe would be the perfect type of player to allow us to move Grealish inside and then reap the rewards of his increased chance creation, whilst also retaining some chance creation from the wing.

  6. Our record club signing, £40m but not guaranteed a starting place... That's the point that most of us are trying to make I don't believe that we as a club are there yet

  8. I’m not aiming this at anyone specifically but we need to see past this, if we get into Europe we can buy better players attitude. We won’t be leaving it to a stroke of luck, the time to invest is now, so that we are good enough to get into Europe. That also gives a squad that we can build on once we’ve qualified instead of completely rebuilding. The progress has to be constant and at a fairly rapid rate because no body is waiting for us. The clamour for Jack is already huge, it will only intensify after next year’s World Cup. We can’t still be a project making baby steps. The die is cast, the owners understand this and I believe their aim is to continue to make huge strides forward. We’re not knocking on the door and waiting patiently to be invited in. We’ve brought a battering ram with the intention of storming the castle!!

  12. I used to hate it when you meet someone new, an after a week or 2 us lads generally know if it's the one. But then it's the worry that they don't feel the same way, and could take up to 3 months dating until you know they properly like you, I mean you could never ask could you. I met a girl in my youth, went out out with her for 6 months, having everything that comes with it (wink wink), until one day I say "I guess we're boyfriend and girlfriend now then", jokingly, for her to say, "I don't want a relationship, I'm not ready", my heart dropped, cracking girl too, she never come round either. I specifically remember we was out bank holiday and she went all funny, so I dropped her home early, for her to say things aren't going to work with us, that was it, never saw her again. Sounds a bit gay, but loved that girl, I really did.

  15. Sorry, but Romano doesn't know any more than the rest of us. I honestly believe he has some sources at a few top clubs, but when it comes to most clubs, like Villa, he has no clue. Most of what he does is regurgitate the more realistic transfer rumors while keeping it open ended and then tries to beat others to announcing done deals, right before someone else breaks the story. Examples that come to mind: Rashica - He said it was practically a done deal last summer, which is why the story wouldn't die. Everton & Spuds manager search - Go back and read his coverage of the managerial interviews of these clubs. It's laughable.

  16. Buendia is the better player now. Prying Smith-Rowe out of Arsenal's hands when they don't really want to sell and it will shatter their fans is what makes it a bigger signing.

  18. Im still half convinced that when Lingard gets his £20m+ permanent deal to someone off the back of that loan spell he'll turn out to be a mistake He was a perfect storm at WH, fire in his belly and moyes used him well Someone will get bit, I wouldn't take him at villa

  19. I get frustrated with the section of our fanbase that lives in the past and just clamours for old players like Benteke, or tired, old, regurgitated British/PL “names”. It just smacks of a lack of ambition and small club mentality. A very limited scope of thinking… We don’t need mediocre players from lesser clubs and we don’t need the cast offs and out of favour players from those above us. We’re better than that. We’ve heavily paid the price when the club have had that mentality in the past too, thankfully that is no longer the case. We’ve been burdened by some right crap and wasted millions, we need to learn that lesson. We need to get away from that frame of mind and try and align ourselves with the owners’ vision and ambitions… a fresh, renewed, positive and exciting outlook. Let’s bring in the best young talent that are going to be stars and become the “new names” rather than hanging on to old, tired ones… Take our approach for Smith-Rowe for example… that’s encouraging. If we are after PL players, let’s get the best up and coming talents with bright futures rather than the deadbeats. Or even the best performing of the attainable players that would like to take that next step up. Targets like Alvarez should excite us, can you imagine having and developing a real talent and future/potential world class player ourselves? That’s ambitious… A player like Kamada would be an exciting link, just for example. Olise? We signed a massive talent and genuine, potential star in Buendia. Let’s continue along those lines. There’re so many good players out there and many we have no awareness of. Let’s broaden our horizons…

  20. All legit except then you see players like Lingard be sensational for West Ham. Sadly the fact is there is NO rule for who will be a success or not - sometimes it will be a young player, sometimes old, sometimes British, sometimes not, sometimes a player on the way up, sometimes on the way down. The only rule is pick the right players…

  26. Moreno has got him sent off with that ridiculous overreaction but it doesn’t surprise me that it’s the premier league referee who’s bought it. Shocking decision. In a tournament where refereeing has generally been at a high level you can always rely on Michael Oliver to showcase what the premier league does best.

  28. Also Watkins at final value of £33m and Tammy we are talking £40m but the rumour was £38m are roughly the same value. Just like Tammy shouldnt be guaranteed a place, neither should Ollie be guaranteed his place. Some on here think Ollie should be our only striker and we dont need competition but Ollie should be fighting for his shirt. He has earnt the first place at the moment but he has to keep doing well to keep the shirt. He had two real droughts of goals last season where if we had another top striker we couldve changed. Also the competition will improve both Ollie and Tammy. Again competition is only one reason to bring in Tammy and not the only reason, there are plenty of others.

  31. This constant clamour for Jack to play in the middle baffles me. Literally every single time he's played there he's looked less effective than he does on the left. Literally every time. Why do people keep suggesting this is completely beyond me.

  32. Massive respect for the women, but could we have a catch all Villa Women thread instead of individual women player threads interspersed among the regular threads on the main page? Or at least a tag that says women?

  33. I’m with useless, not for the first time in my life. Signing a 20 year old regular starter from Arsenal, despite a seeming unwillingness to sell and the lad himself being an Arsenal fan, would mark such a big shift in perception and reality that I actually think it would be a bigger than signing Stan all those years back. I’m not sure I can think of an equivalent in the modern era, to be honest.

  35. Two points I wanted to make: Firstly, I don't think we should have any blanket rules about recruitment. It's a lot more complicated than that and it's about finding the right players, whatever their current circumstances may be. Secondly, I think our recruitment team have done more than enough to earn our trust in them. They've been absolutely brilliant.

  36. I used to be like that as I was very insecure and wanted people to like me. Then I’d go out on the piss and do something stupid, and think to myself, yes I can see why I’m not everyone’s cup of tea. Nowadays I’m much calmer, not so insecure, and quite frankly couldn’t give a shit who likes me or not. I’ve actually broken off 1 or 2 friendships recently because I just can’t be arsed for them anymore, and I couldn’t give a shit about what they think of me doing this. Too much bullshit and too many people willing to stab you in the back. Same here, far from perfect , but who gives a shit. Life isn’t perfect. I do try my hardest to avoid confrontation if I can, though.

  39. If, and it’s a big if, but if England were to win the Euro’s, I wonder if it might help him in staying put. He obviously wants to win things, perhaps it would satisfy the desire, for a bit at least anyway.

  40. Well this is the same as Percy really. A lot of what Percy confirms has been reported before he just refuses to claim its happening until he knows. Romano is very much the same. He doesn't say things are done until they are done. He's respected because he's not about being first, he's about being right and most of the time he is. He's built up a solid reputation and seems to be trusted by a lot of sources. There's an NBA journalist who I believe was very similar, called Adrian Wojnaroski. He built up a massive following of getting inside info and dropping 'Woj bombs' and eventually got a multi million dollar deal to report for yahoo. Romano is a smaller version of him.

  46. I didn’t find the little girl crying funny. It’s a little girl crying, I don’t quite see what’s funny about it to be honest. Maybe it’s paternal instincts kicking in, but I felt a bit sorry for her, I think I let out an audible “aww” when she appeared. I know how she was feeling, I’m sure we all do but we were probably fortunate enough to not be displayed on the big screens for people to laugh at. If it was a grown adult acting inconsolable, I could see that being mildly amusing.
