  3. It's been bugging me for a while now and whilst the obvious answer is...''You can always improve', how do we get to the next level as a club and what positions do we strengthen in the Summer? I'm so in awe of the job Smith is doing and love so many of our players at the moment, I'm finding it hard to see who we replace in our current starting XI. I think most are in agreement that the following is our best XI when fit.... -----------------Watkins-------------- Grealish---------------------Traore ------------------Barkley-------------- ----------McGinn---Luiz------------- Targett--Mings--Konsa--Cash ---------------Martinez---------------- If we sell players, of course, that forces our hands a little, but say we were to keep hold of that XI in the summer, who is most at threat of losing their place in the side should we splash the cash? I'm not talking about squad players here, I know we need a backup left back etc... I feel the easy answer is Targett, or certainly would have been 12 weeks ago but his form is so fantastic that I wouldn't want anyone else in that position right now. For me, it's... 1. Barkley - I think we can improve on him. I'm a big fan of his but if you were to ask me right now who I think we could cope best without, it would be him. 2. Luiz - A classy operator and still so young but I still think we're crying out for a big, combative defensive midfielder. Again, I love Luiz, but is he top, top level? 3. Mings - Again, big fan of Tyrone but he's been overtaken in the pecking order by Konsa and his lapses in concentration have been a little too frequent this season. Just to put this into perspective. A couple of years ago, we lost to Wigan 3-0 at their place. Now we're arguing over whether Ross Barkley is good enough for us... This is a positive post - I love this team, squad, manager. UTV

  6. All they had to do was come out afterwards and say yeah, an error occurred, we apologise and will work on making sure it doesn’t happen again. Simple.

  7. May your praise be as loud as your disrespect. Many on here were willing to blame Mings for something that clearly was a massive error by the ref and VAR. Prem owe Dean and Mings a whole hearted apology. Won't hold my breath though....shame.

  8. Think part of the reason they are doing so well is they don’t have us lot on their backs when they make a mistake tbh.

  9. He doesn't. Need to get away from the mentality that any player thinks they are a shoe in. He makes the training sessions improve and everyone in that midfield go at it for a starting berth. That's what you want.

  16. I don't think we need to improve our starting XI. If we want to be at the next level, we need a squad; two quality players at every position. Look at the Spurs', Uniteds, City's. They can rotate and not weaken their first XI. Emi Heaton Cash XXXX Konsa XXXX Mings XXXX Targett XXXX Luiz XXXX McGinn Sanson Barkley Grealish Traore Trez / XXXX Grealish El Ghazi / XXXX Watkins XXXX Basically replace every XXXX. That's the way to the next level.

  18. But renowned imbecile Steve Hilton and ludicrous conspiracy lunatic Maajid Nawaz, via a Newsweek article from nine months ago say there's a scandal. I'll get right on to being outraged, just as soon as Alex Jones tells me that it's bona fide.

  23. That does seem ludicrous to me, making it so a defender has to work out whether someone behind him is just about on or offside and decide whether to try and intercept it. I think Watkins was just about onside but it was very tight, if he was actually offside when the cross came in and got played onside by the defender trying to cut out the cross it would be almost as daft as the decision over the Rodri tackle imo. As for our goal against Sheffield United last season, that was an error with technology, not stupid human interpretation of the laws of the game. I guess it's just used by other fans to troll us and to be fair we would probably do the same to other fans.

  24. Is this the part about us "being fortunate to stay up with the VAR non goal" ? Unfortunately it gets brought up by pretty much every other teams fans now, particularly if a dodgy decision goes against us and we have the audacity to complain I wouldn't mind if it was the last game of the season when it happened but there was still 27 points to play for and it only cancelled out the joke decision by Kevin Friend at Palace, which other fans conveniently forget

  25. If anything this whole Mings thing has proven 2 things for me. Fans of Villa will use a glaringly incorrect ruling as a cudgel to beat Mings with and how many fans of "football" have zero idea when it comes to the rules of the game.

  26. You can't look at passing stats in isolation and draw much at all from them. Last season De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandez has passing accuracy stats that were in the 70-80% area. The point being that to create a pass that will assist a goal, or really influence the scoring of a goal you have to take risks, that it's more difficult than passing from one centre back to the other to a midfielder. A team that passes the ball around at the back 10 times and then hoofs it upfield might have a 95% success rate. A team that plays more adventurously might have a lower success rate in passing, but be much more effective in winning games. That said, improving on unforced errors etc. - yes agree,

  27. Yeah 100%. As above if anything it should be the opposite. Keepers should get less protection in the air, because they're usually not going head first when the ball is in the air and outfield players are. And on the ground they usually ARE going head first (well arms first but inevitably their head and body is down there) and outfield players are using their feet.

  28. we could use Happy Gilmour, but just for the Burnley game to stop them from injuring our players

  29. Just seen that they've apparently got a sell on clause for Demarai Gray, they get fifteen percent of any profit that Leicester make from his sale, but because he's out of contract in the summer Leicester aren't going to make any profit on the £3.75m that they paid for him.

  36. One of the key reasons Bruce got the job over other names at the time was his record of promotion and the fact that in his view we still had a shot that season. I was told this at the time and believe it to be true. Fast forward a few months and Bruce is peddling a narrative that he saved us from relegation. Yet from memory we were never in the bottom three. It was like so much that the man says self protectionism and PR designed to detract from his own shortcomings and performance. Yes signings he made made us more professional, yes some of them later contributed to us going up and yes he played a part in turning the club around. But saved us from doing a Sunderland? No. Not buying it, never have never will.

  37. Doesn't tick the required "Yes man box" Hopefully Deano's latest outspoken " did you get juggling balls for Christmas" has frightened off The FA's "old boys club" If he does get offered a interview then hopefully he turns up in a really small car wearing a spinning dickie bow and squirty flower thing!

  38. Villa fans legit have a " Anything good I have will leave me, they always leave " type mentality. It's a theme in almost every thread when we are doing well. Seems we need a mini slump soon to bring it back closer to the middle. lol
