  1. Working from home for the past 9 months has its obvious benefits like saving money on fuel, knowing when you go to the toilet twenty other hairy arsed blokes haven't blasted last night's curry down the pan before you settle down......but the massive bonus that has only just dawned on me is not having to put up with the "whacky and zany" office festivities like the shit buffet where everyone brings in happy shopper quality cocktail sausages, quiches, crisps and rola cola.......secret santa where the limit is £5......five effing quid.....the quizzes where you guess which boss from the baby photos emailed around along with other shite questions....and everyone is wearing a xmas jumper, bought from the market and is 100% static to the touch......and so on.... Yes, i am a grumpy old git ! So what ?!

  3. Obviously a gag but still Ben Bradley is one of those people that, were he to unfortunately be hit by a car and killed, you'd erect a statue to the car.

  4. An amusing thing that is now happening in America is the following: With their shiny new bigger majority on the Supreme Court, conservatives have managed to get rulings that overturn restrictions on religious attendance in the name of virus prevention. So now you can go to church and spread the virus to your heart's content, and there's nothing the government can do to stop you. The Pope then published a suspiciously prompt op-ed in the New York Times encouraging people, in a very mildly veiled way, to actually listen to what public health experts are saying and not to put other people's health at risk. And now catholic Republicans are *extremely* butt-hurt about it: From the replies, this gem:

  5. See, I genuinely don't care about him looking a bit scruffy. It's the same as Michael Foot's duffel coat, Corbyn's wonky glasses and Abbott's shoes. It's all irrelevant, provided they can do their jobs. Blojo can't.

  12. Indeed. Though as @bannedfromHandVsays, it's clearly deliberate - a false impression for effect. Another little signifier of untrustworthiness, perhaps?

  15. Easiest way is just to cut into small pieces and shallow fry for 10 mins on medium heat to get the edges crispy. If it's plain tofu in water then you'll need to wrap it in about 20 pieces of kitchen roll and press it hard between your hands to get as much of the water out as possible. If you make a marinade then the longer you leave it (overnight) the more flavour it'll soak. The picture above is after mixing it with cornflour so it gets a crispy outside when fried. Done right it gets very close to fried chicken. Most of the time though I just get cauldron smoked tofu pieces and fry them as is for 10 mins.

  19. I think a lot of the issue is that part of the spontaneity has been taken out of the game in exchange for... basically nothing except errors being made in slow motion rather than real time.

  22. You don't want to stir fry silken tofu, it's too soft and has too much moisture, the stuff you stir fry is in the fridges, usually Cauldron or Tofoo in uk supermarkets. Even though it's firm, it's firm for silken tofu, and still very soft by any other standard The only things I've really used silken tofu is the texture, I've used it to make cheesecakes, or added to a pasta sauce as a substitute to get the kind of richness and thickness of mascarpone

  24. As short as they come but still my favourite ever written piece. Short story but hidden as its a long post. On seeing the 100% perfect girl one beautiful April morning by Haruki Murakami One beautiful April morning, on a narrow side street in Tokyo's fashionable Harujuku neighborhood, I walked past the 100% perfect girl.

  25. It’s that type of minimisation of issues that deflect the importance. Ask families and friends who have lost family members to drunk drivers and ask whether they believe it’s important? Maybe try putting yourself in the shoes of those who have lost family members to drunk drivers.

  26. I think Mings wouldnt work with him if he felt strongly about it, he is a strong character and had no issue criticising the FA chief. I think Terry isnt a racist, he has played with a lot of black players and none to my knowledge have accused him of racism BUT I think he did say that comment to Ferdinand at the time

  28. Speaking as someone with only a passing knowledge of Star Wars... I agree with Sid James as Han Solo But I’d go with - Jim Dale as Luke Barbara Windsor as Leia (although could be persuaded with Joan Sims) Along with - Kenneth Connor as Obi - Wan Bernard Bresslaw as Chewbacca Charles Hawtrey as C3PO Terry Scott as R2D2 Leaving Kenneth Williams as Darth “Luke, fancy a bit of how’s your father” Vader.

  29. And so it should. Rather like Jack was clearly driving his car pissed and smashing into surrounding vehicles there was not enough to convict in a Court of Law, I'm pretty sure Terry said what he said. Hopefully for both of them it's a lesson which will make them better human beings in future.

  30. Well she called first thing in the morning and told me not to worry. @Mandy Lifeboats Thanks for the wisdom. Sincerely. A friend reassured me that as it's early on in the piece it can be angsty as we don't know each other well, and to give her time to process what I told her. You're both right, and this why people are the best. If I didn't get honest feedback I'd be right back up poo creek without a paddle. I don't really like to pathologize people, let alone myself, but I do have a diagnosis, and my shrink warned that when I put myself out there again, some unpleasant thought processes may return. She knows about it at surface level as I've mentioned it to her, and I've told her when those thoughts have come up. She's kind about it. I wasn't necessarily expecting her to be either. I really wasn't expecting her to be kind about what I told her before I left, but it's me. Turns out she's going to be kind about that too.

  32. For what it’s worth, hypothetically, if I was ordering something and after I typed in the delivery address it came up with “You can receive your order in two days, however we’re scheduled to deliver other goods in or near your postcode in five days time, would you like help the environment a bit and receive them then instead?” or words to that effect, more often than not I’d select to receive my order later. I’m sure there are reasons why that’s difficult and impractical but anyway, it would be a feature I’d be ok with using.
