  1. Lost a key player minute 1. Missed an absolute sitter and screwed by Var. What can you do? It sucks but our improvements this year have been huge.

  2. For anyone defending the decision - after the touch from March the ball is still at Trezeguet’s feet. Then he hacks his shin. It’s a clear foul and absolutely insane that it has been overturned as though the referee initially made an error.

  3. Not a penalty. The guy got the ball. We lost because we were poor. Not taking our chances.

  4. The ball hit his foot as he tripped Trezeguet. It's as blatant a penalty you will ever, ever see. Touching the ball has nothing to do with it being a foul. You watched football before?

  5. I just can't get my head around the attitude from some towards traore. It started as soon as he signed. So strange.

  6. Yep, it's amazing this has to be spelled out to some people, isn't it? HE DID NOT GET THE BALL. HE DID NOT DISPOSSES TREZEGUET. HE DID NOT MAKE A FAIR TACKLE. THE BALL HIT HIM AS HE TRIPPED TREZEGUET!

  7. You could see from March’s response that he knew he’d fouled Trez

  8. I'm glad other people see it like this. It wasn't remarkable, but he's done ok. The reaction on here is hysterical.

  9. Brighton are awful but fortunately for them, the unprofessional showboaters have arrived this week. You have to questioning the attitude of players that lose to such poor teams reguarly when they have shown they are perfectly capable of playing at a much better standard. I don't care how 'close' it is or that we 'should' be winning, it's quite clear that Brighton have this in the bag today and will run away with it in second half on the counter. McGinn has been awful. Trezeguet is so intent of scoring on his 50th appearance that he's wasted countless opportunities smashing it in to row ZZ. Watkins has been asleep and committed to nothing. Luiz is standing off his player every time. Targett wants to take about twenty touches too many. Mings still thinks he's all that and his passing and basic positioning gets worse every week. MOTM is Martinez and nothing in the first half has suggested that's likely to change in the second. I'm genuinely fuming with that half, way too many players have shown such a poor attitude and it's only due to quality from the likes of Grealish and how defensive Brighton are that it's close at all. Analyse the chances and really it shoukd be 3 or 4 to Brighton. Fuming.

  10. I love the way Trez didn't let that miss effect his game. He's arguably been our best player.

  11. Jack Harrison was the player that impressed me most in Leeds victory over us and I've sort of kept an ear out for him since. There are a number of articles about him on the Beeb today and the thing that grabs me about them is that he's not a Leeds player - he's a Man City player who has been on loan there for three years. This isn't a slight against an excellent player or against Leeds, but that's just wrong, no player should be loaned to another team for three whole seasons, it's just an abuse of the loan system. I'd like to see loans restricted so that players can only be loaned out for a single season - after that, the parent team should either shit or get off the pot. This is player stockpiling for profit by Manchester City, it's an FFP workaround and it needs to be addressed - the loans system is a mess.

  12. Listening to Dean Smith's interview he seemed angry about the way we gave away the goals so it's not like he doesn't notice it. We clearly need to make better decisions defensively to become harder to beat. On the whole though he is doing a really good job IMO. All the games this season, with the exception of the Leeds game, I think we've deserved at least a point and not only that, typically, we've played good entertaining football in the process. We're doing that playing the youngest average starting 11 in the league too so reason for optimism.

  13. I'm strangely encouraged that our " Poor " this season, seems to be what our best last season would have been. Also saw someone " insult " us on BBC Sport saying results like today show we are a mid table team. Did he realise that is a compliment based on where we just were? We look dangerous every time we go forward now. Our " weak points/faults " were more visible today due to fatigue IMO. Jack was sloppy, you could just tell, they never had that extra sharpness.

  14. People saying we wont go down. 0 points from the last 3 suggests over wise. **** poor dean. Its no good beatkng arsenal then losing to Brighton at home. Pathetic result

  20. I said in the post match thread. We lose a key player after 1 minute. We miss the biggest sitter of the game and Var robs us in the 94th minute. I thought we played really well, and like the saints game, its not a game we should have lost. Our improvement from last season is huge. How many teams played like that against us last year? We're feared now.

  21. This whole concept of "getting the ball" is some weird fabrication of English football, and it only seems to apply in the penalty box. So what if he grazed the ball? He took the man out at the shin. On the halfway line, that's a foul all day long.

  22. Absolute rubbish. We were the better team throughout.

  23. Definitely a stressful job, but I think what we need to take from the point is that it is notable that Patel's treatment of her staff appears to have been over and above the 'normal' culture of shouting, bullying and abuse, hence why she has been investigated for this in a way that nobody else has previously. (We should also move away from 'normalising' cultures of abuse and bullying even if they are common, of course, because they are simply bad on their own terms).

  24. Oh look, he got the ball. Not a foul then. Let's just ignore the two footed lunge. Yep, same here. No foul as the ball touched him. Doesn't matter that Salah could have had his ankle broken because Kompany touched the ball. Clear contact on the ball despite him not meaning it in any way. Fair tackle then.

  26. Nowhere near good enough yet again. Konsa is our best cb in my eyes

  27. 'He got the ball' is a red herring, March touches the ball, not in control, thus ceding posession to Trez, who isn't able to progress, because he's KICKED him in the shin.

  28. Robbed of a point, should have been 3 points though. Even without Barkley we created enough to have won that no worries, even conceding two. A lot of them were knackered from the internationals. We'll be back to winning ways soon.

  29. I sighed as soon as I heard the commentator say "Brighton have never won at Villa Park" leading up to kick off. There wasn't much in it, and we could have won, as poor as we were. Barkley may well have been the difference. Trezeguet's finishing was a joke, McGinn was knackered ten minutes in, and Mings was far too inattentive once again. Grealish has played too much this week and today is the worst he's played in quite some time. Watkins deserves some criticism for bottling his chance when they cleared it off the line. Any of those players being on their game could have been the difference, but we deserved to lose today. Our reliance on crosses in to the box when we can't win a header is just not good enough. The theatrics from Trezeguet at the end was an embarrassment and cost us a genuine penalty, but it was appalling refereeing,

  33. It's the most settled first team we've had in years. It's the thinnest squad in terms of the drop off in quality between those that are in the team and those that aren't.

  36. The nature of the game and the nature of the rules are not designed for this level of scrutiny.....it is detailed nonsense. The game was never designed for this level of forensic debate. anywhere on the pitch that would have been a foul without protest.....the time in the game and the importance of the decision, influenced him imo.....there was no clear and obvious error from his original decision.....so why did he question it. Goal line monitors only for me and scrap Var or any outfield over scrutiny. the game before was swings and round abouts and probably favoured attacking teams.....lets get back to it.

  37. When one of our best player goes off after 2 minutes, Welbeck scores a dink and Trez misses an open goal. You always knew this wasn’t our day. we lost when we shouldn’t have. Brighton can probably say that about 3 or 4 of their games this season. They got that bit of luck they probably deserve from recent performances. Time to move on to the next game.

  41. Really enjoying this game, think we're good value for the draw and hopefully even the victory. Trez and Grealish looking great, McGinn looking awful. Wouldn't really mind even if we lost though, I watch football to be entertained at the end of the day.

  44. Saturday at 3pm, that makes a change. A home win would also make a nice change, following two consecutive home defeats against Leeds and Southampton, that cost us the only points that we have dropped this season. A win would maintain our top six place and it could possibly see us top of the league by 5 o'clock! We went into the International break after a superb performance at Arsenal. Brighton had taken 6 points from a possible 24 before it. They are currently 3 points clear of the drop zone and are 9 points behind us, having played a game more than we have done. Our visitors have also never won at Villa Park and long may that continue to be the case. This could all perhaps suggest that Graham Potter, would need to be Harry Potter for his team to cause an upset on Saturday afternoon, but as we all know football results can be very difficult to predict and that has been particularly the case this season. We won 2-1 at Villa Park when we met 11 months ago. We have won 7 and have drawn 3 of our 10 home league games against tomorrow's visitors. Overall, we have won 10 and have drawn 7 of the 20 league games, that have been played between the two clubs. Just win it for us Villa!
