  3. There is a lot of talk about LB as one of our remaining issues, personally I don't see it being something we address in this window. If we bring in another player they will be a forward/wide forward in my opinion. In terms of Targett/Taylor and the left back slot it is now probably our weakest area of the side so I do think it will need addressing at some point. I do wonder though if we will see some improvement in performances from Targett due to the general improvement in the team. At times last season we relied heavily on him getting forward but you would hope with better players ahead of him we aren't so dependent upon him for this, plus I think Cash on the right will share more of this burden than our RB's last season. But I also think that having Barkley rather than Hourihane in front of him and potentially Luiz a little deeper will give him so much more protection and stop teams hitting those diagonal balls across the pitch quite so easily. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Targett has a better season purely as a result of changes around him. We shall see.

  4. Rule number one of transfer club - say youre done to drive prices down. Rule number two of transfer club - don't mention transfer club... Rule number three - don't be a moron like Ole and say your going to buy anyone you want, no one can stop you, Manchester United are the biggest club in the world

  6. Here we go. Same old crap as always. (Not from est1874 in particular.. just in general on this board) Just for the record... Impartial people without an agenda who do this thing for a living.. seem to think he was our best player.

  7. I think Hause is legit the absolute worst football player at the club. I've wanted him to come good so badly for sentiment, but it's hard to ignore just how bad he is. Sod anything else, we need a LCB who can cover LB as well.

  9. I keep wondering lately to what extent we owe our revival to this guy. Beyond the promotion, the survival, the good start to this season, Grealish’s new contract and a handful of positive signings - it’s the general feel good factor in the squad and club that’s putting a smile on my face. When we went down there was just no harmony or culture whatsoever in the club, if any did exist it was definitely toxic. In the past I’ve attributed Bruce with stopping the rot and I think he has to be credited a little but particularly for bringing in JT. I think his influence on the team and club has been immeasurable, he’s brought a winning and professional mentality into the fold, something we sorely lacked. I’ve felt that over his time here we’ve developed a far better culture and bond within the squad, exiting loan players like Snodgrass and Abraham fell in love with the club whilst here and have gone on to say good things about us. Above all I think he’s helped to instil pride into putting on the shirt. Not saying the guy’s single handedly responsible for bringing about all that change but I do think he’s been a major influence and if we do get back to being a good, top half club again then we may owe him a fair deal of gratitude for his time here.

  10. I'm amazed, although I shouldn't be, that he is getting grief tonight. The only one who tried to make things happen and was better than everyone else, yet he's the one getting all the stick. Madness.

  15. I reckon the owners are waiting to see if we beat Liverpool this weekend ... if we do then they will go shit or bust for the title and sign 3 more lose and they will settle for top 6 and just the one more signing.

  16. Let's try this scenario. (Hyopethically speaking) 5 games time (the window has long closed) Watkins pulls up and is out for 8 games... we move Traore up front for now then. That leaves us only Trezeguet on the right and Elmo as cover? What happens if Trezeguet also becomes injured in that time? We suddenly have to either play with Davis as striker with no suitable back up... or sacrifice ourselves in other positions to plug holes in other areas... do you get where I am going with this? My point is, it would be naive of us to go into this season with the same problem as last season and it proved very costly. We need another striker and another AML to give us more strength in depth combined with quality. If we can find a player that fits both those positions then we are laughing. So far we have seen that Rashica and Sarr are two examples of players that would work and DS also confirms we are looking for someone who can ideally fit this criteria.

  17. Christ guys. He wasn't great tonight but look at what he was working with. We smashed long balls forward for the majority of the game, or sent the ball across to El Ghazi who offered nothing. Traore spent most of the second half dropping inside to try and get on the ball. Guilbert offered nothing on the overlap. Baffling that people are writing him off, or calling him out as a potential rotten apple after one game full of reserve players. As for pace, he has plenty, he just didn't get given the ball in the right areas to use it. Maybe wait until he's got 90 minutes under his belt in the PL before we start judging him.

  18. El Ghazi the only one that looked arsed. Traore was very poor. Doesn’t look first team quality at the moment.

  20. I have not seen anyone building themselves up for disappointment in all fairness. We're speculating of how else we could improve the team and will we or won't we bring in another one more. I don't see why you're getting yourself worked up and all bent out of shape about a hypothetical situation!?

  21. Speak for yourself. I don’t. I presume he’s not first choice for the manager, but nevertheless does everything asked of him, professionally and when called upon generally plays well.

  22. I can't remember exactly but wasn't the Purslow issue with making loan signings was in signing young players and helping to develop them for other clubs who then take them back and start using them in their first teams as was the case with Axel and Tammy. That isn't the case with Ross Barkley. He is the finished article. 27 years old in a couple of months, 280 appearances, 33 senior England caps. Chelsea know what he is capable of. He isn't going to surprise them or anyone else. I think he has a good season for us, and we as a club have a good season and then have the aspiration to kick on again next season, then I see no reason why Ross Barkley wouldn't want to stick around and why we couldn't pay Chelsea what they would want for him. I'll start to worry about that in 6 or 7 months time though.

  23. Abysmal. It's the inability to complete a simple pass to a teammate that boils my piss. Paid tens of thousands of pounds a week and they lack the most basic skills. Shocking.

  24. If we do sign anyone else I fear for their safety. We don't need you, we don't want you, even if you do improve the overall quality of the squad and could help get us further up the league, giving us more financial power in future years, we have no room for you in the starting 11. So **** off.

  27. Seems like Sean Dyche wasn’t happy with Sterling’s tackle on Lowton yesterday. Shame he didn’t react in a similar way to Ben Mee’s challenge on Wesley, which was significantly worse (and done with the intent to harm rather than being clumsy). You can’t have it both ways you hypocritical arsehole.

  34. Disappointing but think there are a few OTT reactions, especially on twitter. We should have scored a couple. El Ghazi will get lots of hate again but he was miles better than traore. Lack of quality in the final 3rd. Its why we've spent a fortune replacing these guys.

  35. Half arsed garbage. The quality of our passing has been diabolical - in particular Hause and El Ghazi who don't look like they could find a Villa shirt if they were locked in the club shop overnight. We've missed two absolute sitters with Lanbsury's header and Davis's shot and we've not looked too bothered about being behind. A half time rollicking is required and maybe a change or two. Ramsey has looked decent, Traore has done a couple of good things but hasn't been involved in the game - it's all very meh. On that first half, there's absolutely no-one in this side that you'd put anywhere near being a challenge for their first team equivalent - every single player here is comfortably second best to the man picked for league games.
