  1. We’ve just had a decorator in to do some work. I got chatting to him and it turns out he is a British Airways pilot who’s been furloughed and earning a bit of extra cash. He made a lovely job of the landing......

  5. Pretty sure I've shared this one before on VT but on BBC London, the main newsreader always introduces himself with "Good evening. I'm Assad Ahmed" and I always reply "cheer up then".

  6. Surely the only honest answer is "it depends on the property, the damage and the context" Unless anyone is prepared to argue that the people who took hammers to the Berlin Wall should have been prosecuted for criminal damage...

  9. The problem, for me, is that not one other single player has thus far been able to step up and put any sort of decent performance in. We know Grealish & McGinn are good, and that if you put the resources in to nullify them then you stop much of Aston Villa. Losing McGinn for 3months made it easier for opponents. But that wouldn’t have been so glaringly obvious if just one other player from ElGhazi, Trezeguet, Luiz, Hourihane, Wesley, Drinkwater, or Jota, would have put in a performance or two that was worthy of the Premier League. Unfortunately for us we’ve not really had a tune out of anyone else, not even close. The opposition I’m sure look at that group, thus far, and think “**** all to worry about there”. Big problem. We have two players that opposing teams would be concerned about, thereafter nobody. I think Samatta is a very decent addition who opposing teams can’t disregard, and I think Davis is someone that opposing teams couldn’t disregard because of his attributes. I expected more from ElGhazi, very disappointed with his Premier League performance thus far, he was the one I thought should be occupying the thoughts of the opposition in the absence of either Grealish or McGinn. If everyone can remain in good shape then for me we’d go into the Sheffield Utd game with 4 players that Sheffield Utd would have concerns about; Grealish, McGinn, Samatta, Davis. That’s double the amount of players the opposition would be concerned about earlier in the season. If we have to alter our set up to accommodate those 4 then so be it.

  10. This will be hard to explain and its also a bit weird, but it cheers me up, inexplicably every time I do it. If a man appears in on telly, on the news and they work in trades, or someone of that ilk calls my wife as part of her job. I shorten their name and verbally refer to it. E.g man on telly thats a builder, Paul Simpson. I will literally say out loud Simpo. My wife took a call just from a contractor called Paul Downs, I literally said out loud Downsy. If a roofer is on Grand Designs called Tom Glaser. I will say out loud Tompo. I don’t know where it comes from, why I do it and why it gives me enjoyment. I do not know any of these people.

  12. Hilarious fisticuffs outside our office today. The short version is the local black traffic warden is about to ticket the brand new white X6 belonging to the Asian family who live by the office. It's usually parked up in the back alley but space is tight, so they'd pulled it down to where it was wider to load it, the hatchback was up and they were loading the vehicle. The asian man the drivers the car alongside the traffic warden, says something and the warden goes ballistic, runs alongside the car and absoluely lamps the Asian man, the car stops and the Asian man gets out, theres a bit of a conversation and a stand off and then it all goes a bit Kung-Fu. Asian Man jumps in wih a Thai Boxing Kick, Traffic Warden returns with an absolute belter of a punch and absolutely floors the Asian man, thats it then WWIII has just broke out, about 8 more family members run out and the traffic warden tries to retreat except they stop him from doing so until the police arrive Best thing is... we literally have a CCTV camera pointing right at it. We spend a good part of the afternoon watching it on repeat.

  15. On the presumption we’re talking about the cause of racism and equality. Hundreds of years of peaceful protest and its never quite the right time, never quite the moment. 24 hours of mild agitation and suddenly things are changing here and there. The peaceful protest did condemn it, to suggest or demand otherwise is a bit sad at this point in time, a bit diversionary. I’ve a feeling that’s all some are after, a swift return to the ‘peaceful’ status quo where we can tell people there isn’t an issue or it isn’t the right time or covid prevents us taking action or brexit prevents us taking action or whatever the next excuse is. If chucking a couple of statues in the sea causes wider understanding and makes Us take a small step forward, bring it on. I’d lose a flag and a bronze for greater equality, no brainer..

It sounds to me rather that you'e projecting your opinions onto someone to gain some kind of extra house points. Go pn admit it, you've just chucked his name in there because its trending

  20. I think It would be an interesting strategy to deduct money from NHS workers any time soon. London weighting isn’t there simply for use on the excellent subsidised public transport. It’s for the whole London thing. Much of it is compensation for the risk of turning in to a Danny Dyer.

  21. Pains me to say it , but I think @StefanAVFC comments is the correct answer I think you're taking the flag thing far too literally , If one person in isolation tries to burn a flag as part of what they feel is a legitimate protest , I think their symbolic protest is kinda loosely acceptable ,I don't think it will lead to disorder and anarchy ..... if they were joining ISIS and burning flags then No , that isn't acceptable ... but there is a big difference

  22. It’s a truly fascinating subject isn’t it. Absolutely agree, the Berlin Wall needed to come down. Except, not all of it has. For all the oppression and death, they’ve kept some but as an educational piece. Just as they have Russian tanks on plinths in the centre of Berlin. It’s too much about context to have a one size fits all rule. We need to rapidly address some wrongs whilst avoiding cultural purges.

  25. Reminds me of a friend of mine who quit his career as a gynaecologist to become a painter and decorator. He's been really busy through the lockdown as he's able to paint a whole hallway through the letterbox. (Apologies if this is stolen from VT - I can't for the life of me remember where I heard it first).

  26. In around about 1985 there was loads of news about this Prime Minister woman thing, called Thatcher. Whenever the news came on the telly at work one or two of the lads would shout “witch” at the mere mention of its name. This evolved slightly, and over time one or two of us would sort of, Soto voce do a “wiiiitttchhh” kind of hiss/cackle if anyone mentioned its name. 35 years later I still do it. also v signs if it comes on the telly in some doco or old newsreel.

  27. I agree with this sentiment. As an individual I’m not personally insulted or offended because I’m not big on national flags and the way they’re sometimes used. But firstly the act of burning flags is meant to offend and express contempt. It’s meant to be seen as a gesture of complete rejection of what the flag represents. For some people a flag will represent a history of repression of minorities, but for others that same flag will represent a history of acts of bravery and kindness, of tolerance and virtue and sacrifice. That’s the thing with symbols, they are interpreted differently by different people, but burning flags is intended to offend far more often than not.

I don't even slightly understand non-binary genders, but if that's how you feel, cool, you do you, people. But I cannot, and will not try to understand the sick **** who pay full price for Pringles. It's a **** disgrace.

  40. I like crisps, pretty much any flavour or make. But there are rules, people. For example, prawn cocktail go with a tuna sandwich, or prawn sarny. Cheese & onion go with a cheese based sarny. S&V are permissible here, too. Beef varieties go with Beef or Corned beef sarnies. S&V or Worcester sauce or Chilli are acceptable alternatives. Chicken Crisps with chicken sandwiches. Ready Salted are fine with any sandwich. But don't go doing all that deviant mixing of flavours, or there will be trouble.

  41. Brannigan's beef & english mustard are the best, but it has to be one of the packs which has been dusted more than regular bags to get maximum nose burn. I haven't had a packet since I moved house 4 years ago, but I still keep an eye out in local stores.. alas.. I feel as though I shall never again taste them I like those jalapeno max strong crisps, they're the only "hot" crisp which is actually thing like hot. Beef monster munch are good Doritos (if dusted to excess) are good Beef hula hoops are good McCoys are decent Roysters Beef are excellent Chicken flavoured crisps are always good Chicken and thyme sensations are amazing too.
