  1. I'm impressed that she managed to get on the pitch.

  2. Just on the subs. Guilbert was injured and Wesley was blowing out of his arse. I'm not sure looking at the bench he could have done a fat lot else. The difference was not what Smith did, it was the fact that he had Hourihane and Kodjia to turn to, Klopp had Origi (sp?), Ox, And Keiata (sp?) To turn to.

  3. The best thing that has happened to this club in a very long time ,when he took over we were struggling in the championship playing crap football Now we are in the PL playing very good football, and the team just get's better and better. I like his ability to spot a good player aswell, i hope he will be the villa manager for a very long time.

  4. Agreed. I wonder if some posters actually watched the game and are instead just basing their opinions on stats. The fact that the whole Holte end rose to sing 'Villa till I die' the second the winner went in, before giving the lads a standing ovation at the end, reassures me that the vast majority of Villa fans realise what a bloody good performance that was.

  5. He was much, much better yesterday. Still missed a header he should have at least got on target. Still moans too much to refs, but he battled harder, actually held up and flicked on the ball against the best defender in the country. Much better level of effort.

  6. Why is Deano getting slated here? The man did everything right this game and we almost stole a win/draw from the Champions of Europe/Premier League leaders while missing our Captain/best player. We're still a team in transition and have some glaring holes in our squad, which will be addressed over the next 2 seasons by our front office and our owners, who are still handcuffed by FFP rules about spending. A year ago we were a mid-table Championship team playing Bruceball. Now, we're in the Premier League holding our own against some of the best teams in the world. I'm proud of the performa

  7. Calm down lad he has moved us up 30 odd places in his first year bought a whole new squad and it's his first year in the top flight. The football is better, the feel and atmosphere are better and we have played 4 of the top 6, and only 2 in the bottom half in our first 11 games. Bit of rub of the green which will come, and we'd be top half. As it stands we are a point a game which would bring 38 points, enough to stay up.

  8. With each week our performances are generally getting better, I think after Christmas we'll be flying tbh. Need a couple of additions in January though. I don't think there's a chance we're getting relegated at all (unless we have an injury crisis).

  10. Simply because they are better , you have to work harder than them to say in the game .It's inevitable that you start to run out of steam late on.

  11. Reading some of the comments here is depressing and makes me despair of some Villa fans. IMHO that was the best the Villa performance of the season despite losing..... ....in the last minute. Smith nearly pulled off the result of the season. At VP before the game the consensus was that we would be lucky to avoid a thrashing. We were NOT thrashed and could easily have been 2-0 up with 10 mins to go. The lads played their socks off against the best team in the PL - they were fortunate to get all 3 points. The journey home was sh*t and I hate losing but the team made me proud today.

  12. I clapped them off at full time. I predicted on here we would lose 1-4 such was my opinion of the opposition. For 87 minutes we aquitted our selves admirably and beyond most expectations. I would have accepted worldy shots befitting the European champions status as opposed to the clear errors offered to a team that failed to score in 87 minutes. May i be bold enough to remind you of the 5-1 against the current European Champions in Dec 1976..... so its a moot point, really. I refuse to ignore shortfalls in play to mitigate a spirited performance they are not mutua

  13. When posters criticise Dean Smith and then recommend Troy Deeney you just know they're talking utter bollocks.

  14. His goal is papering over some major cracks in his game and if he didn't score yesterday, would be the first player we'd all be complaining about. He has a great work rate and pace, but he is very poor with the ball and his decision making in the final third of the pitch is hilariously bad... You can count on him making the wrong decision every single time when he has the ball at his feet.

  15. Taking just the last 5 games we’ve played City and Liverpool but are 9th in the Form Table

  16. That one stings a bit. I thought we were superb, I really did - we matched their intensity, their pace, the movement of the ball, their energy, right from the off and then maintained that almost until the finish. We thoroughly deserved our lead when it came. I thought we then defended it really, really well and if we'd managed to grab a second on the break, or we'd had the rub of the green with the ref then we could have taken all three points. Three points would have been more than we deserved in fairness; Liverpool created tonnes of chances during the game and were always in it. No

  17. Really proud of the boys today. It's no shame losing to the best team in Europe and of course in doing that we were missing our captain and best player. Is it gutting? Yes, of course but we're giving every team a decent match and the Man City/Liverpool games were always going to be likely losses. Onwards to the next one. UTV.

  18. People as usual are over reacting. Very disappointing to lose in this fashion, but again we competed extremely well and without our talisman. We’ve just played the best two teams in the league, one has won every game, often in the dying minutes. That’s why they’re at the top. Yes it has happened to us before this season, but we’re on a very steep learning curve. Time and patience required. Before the last two games people were hoping we didn’t get a Southampton style hammering. Support the team!

  20. He always looks to me, like he is coming on during a testimonial. Not my kind of player, has the wrong mindset for me.....looks like a player just running his contract down....despite his obvious talent. He simply doesn't do anything to make something happen for himself......passive in every sense. Personally, i would forego a bit of talent......for desire and a will to win.

  21. Two late goals, the last of which was scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time, preserved Liverpool’s long unbeaten run. They also denied valiant Villa a reward that their whole-hearted display merited. A draw would have represented a fair enough result, but this defeat was more than harsh. By the way, where did those 5 minutes of second half stoppage time come from (he actually played 7)? When this stoppage time Brexit like extension was announced, it seemed to me that the referee was prepared to play on for as long as it took for Liverpool to get a winner. Once we had to en

  22. I find it difficult to criticise Kodjia. He’s been nowhere near his best since suffering multiple injuries but I still have fond memories of his goals in the championship. He scored some amazing goals in his first season, and was one of the only bright sparks as we had little to shout about. He scored some useful goals last season too. The winner at home to Milwall as we made it ten in a row, and the brace against Brentford stand out. When fit and on form he was always capable of pulling something from nowhere, an audacious bit of dribbling skill or a shot when none looked possible.

  23. I think they’ll get dealt with as the players get better. We had players absolutely shattered or injured and our options on the bench are not good enough for this level in my opinion. Bringing on Elmo, Hourihane and Kodija made us a weaker team at a crucial time but Smith had no other alternatives. Stay up this season and then we can continue the rebuild.

  24. That's rubbish. Plop had more possession because they have better players, Smith didn't set up to defend.

  25. Very many red flags on this one: (1) Kovalev had a guaranteed purse of $3m (quite high for him) but could make up to a reported $12m with add ons (I wonder what that was conditional on :D): https://www.mmamania.com/2019/11/2/20943609/official-canelo-kovalev-fight-purses-alvarez-bank-35-million-for-light-heavyweight-debut-dazn-boxing (2) There was no rematch clause, what world title fight between two names doesn't have this sort of clause in place? (3) Kovalev needs to the money - he has an $8m lawsuit against him for assaulting a woman: https://www.boxingscene.com/kovalev-felony

  26. Still don't see him scoring from open play like El Ghazi. Gave Trez a lot of stick this week so happy to be proven wrong just gut feeling from what I've seen he's lacking incisiveness needed in Premier League

  27. He was extremely good going forward and put in a good shift defensively. However it was one lapse of concentration that cost us a goal, which goes to show that's all it takes at this level against a top team, hard to be too critical of that IMO given his all round performance. He's by far the best winger we have at the club.

  28. I think Smith is an amazing manager mate. What he has achieved in his short time at the club is incredible.

  29. Is it not fashionable to put defenders on the post at corners anymore ? That's cost us big style..so simple.

  30. We played well, every player put in a shift, we're still learning and improving. Think back to the team we had 12 months ago and dream about where we could be 12 months from now. Trezeguet was tireless, El Ghazi had arguably his best game for us (bar the failure to track back for their equaliser) Mingles were both colossal and SJM's arse roll was in full effect. Yes it's frustrating to have dropped points (again) but were competing against the very best teams in Europe. That's the key, we're back and competing, not floundering, not collapsing. Marvel at the progress, drink to forget

  32. Eh? Not in Dean Smith world/reality surely? We have just come up, were competitive with City and Liverpool and were 10 mins away from beating a quite incredible Liverpool team. Those aren't huge mental blows, they are reasons to be very confident we can stay up this season and reasons to not be afraid of anyone in this league. We are improving all the time if you ask me, a lot of people who had not been following us would have thought we'd get embarrassed badly at the Etihad and at home to Liverpool. We were a million miles from that. We appear to be a good Premier League team, a year ago we w

  34. I am so proud of the players who went toe to toe with the European Champions and should have got at least a point from yesterday. In the first half we gave them numerous problems for a side that has not been beaten in league football since January. Every player gave their all and the atmosphere was tremendous. You just have to remember how far we have come in a year- 12 months ago we were mid table in the championship. The last time we played Liverpool it was one of my worst experiences of watching football. It was a total and abject humiliation of a tired and stale football club steam

  35. Hopefully once everyone settles down the team becomes fully integrated we can start retaining some possession against the better teams, as I firmly believe we have the player for that. To me the counter attack should just be a side arm, not our main assault rifle.

  36. To be honest it was put to bed 5 minutes into his premier league debut for us.

  37. When I was looking at his reaction to the second goal yesterday I could see how utterly devastated he was to lose but there was a resolve there too, he sort of looked like he was already ticking over in his mind how to beat them next year. You could tell he was fuming but he didn't look defeated to me. If he can transmit that to the group then we should see a good reaction.

  40. How good was Nakamba? Late in the second half, Firminho started receiving the ball wide left or wide right just to get some space on the ball. That's how good.

  44. Brilliant. Tough result to swallow but we were superb today. 8 months ago we were 13th in the Championship and we just gave the current champions of Europe their toughest game of the season and were unlucky not to come away with a win. There'll be some overreactions on here no doubt but I don't think we could've asked for more from the lads today.
