  2. If the Henry/ Terry dream ticket, don't happen......we will be talking about a missed opportunity for years. get it done.

  3. I don't care who it is as long as they meet my modest criteria of being ... A. Instantly successful . B. Constantly successful.

  4. I prefer Henry's analysis on Lacazette "(Xhaka) can play that ball. Why go sideways? Play him in" "I used to hate crossing for the sake of crossing. Keep your composure. Play the ball"

  5. The new management team don’t have to worry about changing our style as we don’t have one to change. Their challenge is to give us a style.

  6. I think we are in for a quiet revolution. Totally off the wall, from left field, outside the box thinking to sort the defensive woes. I think it will go something like this. TH: The defence is pure merde, John, what can we do? JT: OK, thinking out loud here, Thierry, some blue sky thinking, so bear with me. Right. See that guy there? He's a **** right back, so perhaps we could play him at **** RB. See that guy there and the other one next to him who is here on loan? They are both **** centre backs, so perhaps we could play them at **** CB. And that guy there, the one we call Begbie and who has just folded someone in half getting the ball? Well he's not really a **** left back but we haven't got one of them worth the title and he is pretty good there. So we'll leave him there until he gets suspended. What do you reckon? TH: Genius. We'll do it.

  7. I don't get how anyone can't get excited about it. The potential in that combo for us is huge.

  9. Its believed @AVFCOfficial will approach @Jordan for permission to speak to Dwight Yorke. Ex-Celt and Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov could also have talks. Thierry Henry along with John Terry strongly mentioned. — Jim White (@JimWhite) October 8, 2018

  10. It's looking likely that we're going for the Henry/Terry dream team then. Doing a Rangers and Derby by appointing ex-players, in our case one of whom has coaching experience at international level and the other has recent knowledge of the club, the players and of the division we are currently operating in. They will both have immediate respect in the dressing room given what they achieved as players and they will raise the profile of the club. What potential signing would not be attracted by the prospect of signing for a club managed by them? Potential sponsors would also be forming a queue to be associated with our club. Teams (not least Chelsea and Arsenal) would be happy to loan their young players to us given who they would be working with. They both have the potential to make it as managers and if we can attract them both then I think they have a more than decent chance of turning things around on the playing side. Someone will take a chance on them so why not us? Not every former player has become a great manager but some have. Unlike some of our other potential managerial targets they may also want to come here now. They will have fresh ideas and enthusiasm. What's not to like?

  11. If we don’t appoint Henry and go for a safe, experienced manager who is ok but nothing exciting, then someone else appoints him and he goes on to build a fantastic team, I think the disappointment would last for years and NSWE wouldn’t exactly endear themselves to us fans. If however they do appoint him and it didn’t work out, I believe a lot of us would take the view that at least they had tried something different. From their point of view it could be viewed at this moment in time, not just a risk worth taking, but a risk they have to take. Or at least appoint someone who can inject a similar level of excitement.

  12. I don't think it particularly matters. Someone gave Carlo Ancelotti his first role. Barcelona promoted Pep Guardiola through the ranks. Jose Mourinho started somewhere. The only "right" candidate for us is the one who is successful. CV wise, Steve Bruce was a sound choice but it didn't work out. Personally, I wouldn't be fussed it we tried the inexperienced route next.

  18. A few months back a lot of you were very supportive about my wife's miscarriage. I got to really see what a good community VT is and especially @VILLAMARV & @NurembergVillan who were very supportive. So now that all the arguments about Bruce have ended (and before we we all start arguing about the next guy) I want to let you all know the good news that we are now expecting our first child at the end of January! It's a boy and I think the "Aston" is a great name but the wife is not sold on it yet!

  21. Just puzzles me that you care so much about Henry's experience and CV. The last 8 years we've had 8-9 (?) managers with varying experience. From the very experienced and successful managers to the absolute novices. Yet there's no correlation and causality in terms of how well they do for us.

  22. You may never get that chance again. I accept what you are saying, but that scenario was very much yesteryear. Today, to be a top football player, you have to have a decent level of intelligence.....I think it is gradually changing. Henry, gives me the impression, he would make a success out of any career move.....He has that mindset......He is 41 he hasn't rushed in, he has coached one of the best international teams in the world, he has learned form some of the best managers around...he is not a rookie with an inflated ambition, he is calculated and composed......I think he knows he is ready. and more importantly of all.......We should be ready for change.....We have tried all the stereotype stuff, we have flirted with Safe and sensible, we have tried the been their and done it managers. We are 15th in the championship......If we were 8-10th in the Premier league, I may not be so bold. Just remember......its all a gamble no matter who you choose, other managers at other clubs may not be able to repeat their success with us, how many fail ,when moving? " shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you'll land amongst the stars" Dreams do come true.....but you have to TRY to achieve them. I never did think Aston Villa was a normal football club.....We now have an opportunity to at least prove we are ambitious.

  23. Yeah but John Terry played under Steve Bruce, so that squares it. Once you divide that by Thierry Henry you get the square route of Brenden Rodgers And that's Numberwang

  25. Whereas Brucey boy probably doesnt even know how to operate touch screen devices, let alone provide tactical analysis on another team when he has openly admitted he doesnt do tactics. You're right though that video clip doing the rounds I'm not sure why its impressing people so much, I'm just impressed with his general intelligence and knowledge on the game more than that footage. Terry doesn't have the qualifications to be an outright manager, I mean literally doesn't have the licences. I'd rather Henry get the the gig than your usual merry go round managers, so it's a relief. Henrys ceiling is potentially so much higher than the likes of Moyes, Pardew, McClaren so I'm personally delighted we havent gone down that route!

  26. And this is why this thread, and almost all of our manager threads will never stop going in circles. "Pep is doing a great job at City, Did a great job at Barcelona" "Yeah but he has the best squads in the world" "Dean Smith is doing a brilliant job at Brentford" "Yet but he has a team of 3000 technicians" "Couldn't handle the pressure" "Brentford only finished x points behind us" Etc... People skew arguments to suit their opinions. Would you rate him more if he did a moderate job at a national side with moderately talented individuals? Or would he only curry favour if he won the World Cup with Trinidad and Tobago? A tonne of people more eloquent than myself have gone over all the positives as to why he has the potential to be a master stroke of a manager for us. I've seen top managers fail miserably with talented squads before.

  27. Martinez is a fraud and a con man. Belgium got to the semi final inspite of him not because of him. Brazil could of had 4 in the QF. If Japan had dumped them out ( and they should of ) he would probably of being sacked for what would of being an embarrassing exit and now managing some nondescript club in Spain. Funny old game eh.

  28. Can't believe he was first-choice for Liverpool and Belgium for so long. Bloody awful goalkeeper.

  29. There is no way I would accept Roberto Martinez, for the same reason I would not accept David Moyes. Both of them decided they were far too good for Aston Villa when they were on their way up, now that they are both on their way down in club management I wouldn't want them anywhere near our precious Club

  30. They all have to start somewhere.....and if they go on to big things it means the start was good. have faith.

  31. If we are putting our money where our mouth is, and going for a big name, with the promise that whilst we are on our arse now, he is going to be backed...Martinez is the last **** name I would want.

  32. If any appointment fails, you could say that. I think the conditions that Sherwood and Garde operated in are quite different to now.....also Garde in particular is not on the same confidence level as JT & TH. Admittedly they are new to this, just like Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, even Darren Moore.......but hey they have not been ordinary players, they have played at the top end of the game. Kevin MacDonald said our lot need to tidy their individual game up and they will rise up the league, it sounds like a bit of a BMH problem has crept in......who better than them to work on this. I think, we will never have another opportunity like this......lets grab it.

  33. Every managerial appointment is a gamble to some degree. We've done the experienced proven manager in Bruce and Houllier, the "fans choice" in Lambert, the up-and-coming Englishman in Sherwood, the foreigner with a track record in Garde and the proven failure in McLeish. And they've all failed. So we're about due to try the unproven foreign manager. I'd probably choose Rogers myself, but I love the idea of Henry at the club. Sure it might not work, but what's new? It's an exciting appointment, I'm pretty sure it would excite the players too, and I hope it happens. Henry talks a very good game, if he can get the players on the same wavelength then things will be looking pretty good at Villa Park.

  37. Or that given our situation he knows everyone will be clamouring for him to start against Swansea when in reality he knows it’ll take him 2 months to get up to speed and even then it’s a massive ask to come back and perform straight away when at this stage of a very long and arduous career. By that time we’ll be into Jan and able to buy someone new anyway. Better to make a clear statement so everyone knows where things stand.

  39. This, a thousand times this. I've seen it mentioned a few times in the last couple of years that Villa put in more crosses than any other team in the championship. Watching the above clip and Henry talking about crossing for the sake of crossing is like music to my ears, we dont look up enough. I have seen Adomah, Taylor and Elmo time and time again put crosses in without even looking up to see where the players are. Its hopeless aimless cross after cross, even more frustrating when theres only one man in the box with 4 or 5 opposition players. The more analysis clips I watch from Henry the more excited I'm getting.

  41. Got to be a done deal, really, hasn't it. With all the rumours swirling around, other managers ruling themselves out of the running and Redknapp writing this, it will be a massive surprise if we don't get this announced soon. If it doesn't happen, Redknapp is going to look pretty stupid as, although he uses the word "prospect", there's nothing really that follows to suggest it is speculative.
