  1. A woman is sitting at her deceased husband’s funeral. A man leans in to her and asks, “Do you mind if I say a word?”. “No, go right ahead”, the woman replies. The man stands, clears his throat, says “Plethora”, and sits back down. "Thanks”, the woman says, “that means a lot”

  4. Oh, and Onomah, another Villatalk hate figure, had a good game too. Pleased for him.

  5. Oh come off it. We’re 4th in the league, guaranteed play offs and still in with a shout of automatics with 3 games to go. It wasn’t a fantastic display by all means, but we dominated. Had several good chances and they didn’t have any. What was it? 5th game in 13 days? Stealing a living? That’s a joke surely

  6. Sloppy yes, but he was not lethargic. He busted his gut at the end there to get back possession. Twice in fact.

  7. It surprises me that we feel we have to preface our comments about Steve Bruce by saying "I like him" or "he's a decent bloke" in case we're accused of dislike. I do it myself when I post. Bruce should be judged on his abilities as a manager, not on being a "good bloke". I've expressed my views a few times and I'm still of the view that SB is not the man to take Villa forward. Bruce has adopted an underdog mentality over a number of years because of the teams he has managed. When you manage teams like Wigan, Sunderland, Hull and other similar clubs it's natural to develop a philosophy that allows you to survive rather than dominate. Bruce admitted some time back that managing Villa was a huge job and his biggest job by miles! Unfortunately in my opinion he hasn't seen fit (or been able?) to change that "underdog" style of play. We play percentage football. The keeper kicks it long or rolls it out to a full back who kicks it long. We're not aiming for our smallish striker, we're waiting for the opposition's bigger defenders to head it back into our midfield area. This is where it's about percentages .... how many times can we win the second ball? If we do we try to feed it out to the wing and hope to swing it in, where again we hope for a bit of luck with a Villa player occasionally getting on the end of something. How many headed balls did we see against Cardiff the other night? The midfield area was often a danger to low flying aircraft! We're not a particularly big or physical side so each headed ball is a lottery ticket, rather than a planned progression. After the number of games SB has been in charge for, I hoped for some visual acknowledgement that Villa usually have slightly better players than the opposition. Instead of which the opposite seems to be happening. How many times on Tuesday night did you shake your head at a Villa player's inability to hit a ten metre pass accurately? Our coaching must be more about lumping it and winning second ball, than how we use the slightly better ability of our players to win games. My view of SB's ability as Villa's manager is probably unpopular, but I can only say what I genuinely believe. Steve Bruce is not the right manager for Villa.

  8. It's the place to be if you're looking for an overly emotional negative reaction to the slightest move in any direction by a Villa player.

  10. Atheism is the position that the case for gods is unproven. It's not a "belief", it's the lack of a belief. Not worth reading past word two. Stupid meme.

  11. It was a separate point, and the word supposed is key. I think a lot of people have decided on what they think his management style is and then just default to token criticisms even though they're not true. Like the stuff about he doesn't ever play kids or pay attention to the reserves. It's nonsense. But people revert back to it because they've just formed an opinion ages ago and won't stray from it.

  12. Which lets be honest is exactly what Nike, Adidas and every other big brand has been doing for as long as I can remember. It'll be great if we finally cut out the big name manufacturer who have been making bank off of the Villa brand for decades and start making all that cash for ourselves. You don't need a brand to cut you in on the profits if you are the brand. I really hope this is what Xia is thinking as it'll be a massive boost to our financials each season.

  13. Really? Was at the ground tonight and followed him for 15 mins or so. Bloody awful. Strolled around completely uninterested, a total waste of space. Had a good 5 mins late in the second half. That's it. Edit-just for the record I don't hate him at all, thought he might be a top player when he first came.. But I think now he looks glad the season is over and can't wait to get back to spurs. I would have liked to see o'hare playing there tonight.

  14. Snoddy ALWAYS busts his gut. I genuinely think his total commitment is why he gets picked so regularly. It’s a message from SB to the rest of the team - this is how you approach a football match. Really really can’t understand the bile against him tonight. He is a gem for Villa. Hope he stays with us.

  15. Good win. Bizarrely, if you were following the Villatalk thread, you would think we were being totally outplayed and losing the game. The Snodgrass hatefest I particularly didn’t get. I thought he had a good game. I’ve made him MOTM just to thumb my nose at the negative ones.

  17. Why do the coaches only teach the individuals and not the system? Bruce’s teams have zero consistent patterns of play. Interchangeable players are essential in these long EFL seasons.

  18. I had caffeinated coffee today and shall have alcohol this evening. Aren't drugs fun. But in all seriousness, I do laugh at the way people exclude particularly alcohol when referring to 'drugs'. I've sat in a bar with someone who was drinking whiskey, while talking about drug users being 'this' and 'that'. How 'none of them can control themselves'. How they can't stop once they start. But how drink is different because, for example he can't go and get more once the bar closes (bullsh*t), or he can stop right now if he wanted to (but presumably didn't want to). I just sat, agog at the hypocrisy, the cognitive dissonance, the air of superiority (I'm better than them), and the conviction that he talked with while fully acknowledging that he not only had no experience of the substances he was talking about, but never met any of the people he had just pigeon-holed. Ah yes, that was an enlightening conversation. Didn't go down brilliantly as I asked the pertinent questions that poked Swiss cheese holes in his bullshit mind you.

  21. I said as much in the match thread. If we had just won ONE of those games we would be sitting 2nd tonight. Just one of QPR, Norwich or Bolton. As it is we are in the play offs and could end up facing Millwall in the semis. Yuk.

  22. Think he needs this 8 days off now before our next fixture more than anyone. He busts his gut every game, so no wonder he’s shattered but admittedly tonight he fell a bit short on quality. I still believe he’s one of our best players technically when he’s on song, and his experience could be crucial come play offs.

  24. Very valuable three points but Villa must be more clinical in front of goal. I have to say though that Chester is by far the best defender in the Championship and not Terry. Chester was assured and absolute class yet again. I’m not a fan of either Whelan or Onomah but they played well tonight and did what was asked of them. Kodjia also looked a lot stronger and is going to be vital should Villa not get an automatic spot. So pressure back on Cardiff and Fulham.

  32. The Bible isn't a book, it's an anthology, compiled over hundreds of years by a large number of editors (all with different agendas), producing multiple versions, translated between several languages, and comprising bits of mythology, history, folklore, poetry, self-help guides and political propaganda. As a piece of literature it's fascinating, not least because it has influenced writers and artists all the way to the present day, and contributed hugely to western culture. As evidence in a debate over cosmology and the nature of reality, it's an utter irrelevance.

  33. Not believing the bible's contents just shows you aren't a Christian, and have a modicum of common sense. Given how much of the bible most of Christianity ignores its arguable how much belief in the bible means at all, but that's a different story.

  34. Definitely not Terry. Believe he would be eaten alive in the Premiership now. Just too slow. Snody is a tough one. He has quality on the ball but also very slow and i'm not sure the money West Ham would be looking would be well spent? Would rather replace both players with someone younger and more athletic.

  38. I should clarify. There are some very good reasons to think he's a good manager for us. We are certainly harder to beat, our roster has improved considerably, if there was division between british and french players - it's gone, the players are conducting themselves in a more professional fashion, we are in line for playoffs. There are also some very good reasons to think he has made some very big mistakes and a different manager could very well have done better. I won't try to list those here because i've done it often enough and i'm on my way to a meeting in a few minutes. What annoys me is when other people try to minimize the legitimate complaints by deflecting blame , by calling the critics hysterical, or unstable, or postulating and agreeing that we just don't like the man personally.

  40. I have had a mail from WOS in the city that my long wait (almost 2 years) for a new Sub could be over by end of the month. I love the simplicity of it and above all else the Rolex subs do "really good metal" as the finish is 2nd to none. Once I have it then I will be chasing the Tag Monaco calibre 11 and that might be the ned of my watch collecting (although I do also fancy a Breitling heritage super ocean 42 - Green bezel, black face) My wife might stop complaining then

  42. I don’t dislike him at all, he’s done a lot to improve us. But I think he has made glaring errors and a better tactician/manager would have us higher, given the same transfer backing. It had nothing to do with liking him or not. I don’t even know him in fact I would assert that none of us know him. You like the “him” you have constructed in your mind, based on his public persona (persona literally means mask). For all you know, he bites the heads off live baby chickens in his bed at night. And for all any that dislike him know, he bottle feeds orphaned bunnies back to health. Too much is made of liking or not. I have talked at some length with Paul Lambert, in his office at BH. Found him a great guy, I don’t want him back for our manager.
