  1. A close friend of mine has just started NA. Think I'm going to take a ride along with him tomorrow night. I've been once before, but left halfway through because it was just too much and I was not ready. I've got reservations about this 12 step thing and I definitely don't think it should be used long term, but that's just my opinion. Just feel like I should give it a try and maybe get to know some other people that are in the same boat.

  2. 1. You're dragging your feet on the "exit" bill. It's not an exit bill. The EU has requested that you pay only what you have previously signed up to pay, so we don't have to go cancelling science projects we've penciled in. 2. Your notions that we suspend the free movement of labour for you are unreasonable. It's reasonable as a starting point, but we've made it clear time after time after time that we are not sacrificing this crucial part of the European project for you. 3. HM Government's idea that you can sign one page trade deals with countries is unreasonable. 4. Any idea that there can be an open border with NI without it being in the customs union/single market is unreasonable. 5. Any idea that you can be in the customs union/single market without oversight from European courts is unreasonable. 6. Any idea that it is "the EU" preventing an open border, or restricting trade, or whatever, is unreasonable. This is your decision. It is absolutely respected by the EU. You're a sovereign nation deciding your own position. Cool. But it is our sovereign decision to keep our trading agreements that we've built up. This is not the EU's decision, it's yours. Any idea that it is "the EU" preventing an open border, or restricting trade, or whatever, is unreasonable. You can move towards the Norway option once you agree to our pre-conditions on expenses, the border, and the rights of citizens.

  6. Having recently lived in a country which heavily relied on the US for massive amounts of its food (or certainly British Columbia does), it's alarming to see how flippant people can be about food standards, costs, and sourcing/production standards. In Canada you pay extra for meat that is "antibiotic free". It's quite the USP. Want some delicious juice containing "Red Dye No.40"? Or some mac and cheese containing yummy "Yellow Dye No.5 and No.6"? Coming right up! Like to use cosmetics? The EU banned ingredient list numbers around 1300. The US equivalent? 11. ADA is a handy ingredient in both yoga mats, and bread. On a diet? Get some yummy Olestra into your system. Even the Canadian delicacy of Canola Oil is properly grim when you read how it came about and how it's made. Opening the doors to US farms and food producers is a terrifying proposition, and one I thought I'd escaped in moving back to the UK. They say you are what you eat, and in this case that's a damning indictment of the food as much as it the people.

  7. Had they not called an election then you'd probably be right. The CTA is preserved and Northern Ireland is inside the Single Market, while remaining part of the UK. May dresses it up as "best of both worlds" for Northern Ireland, customs checks on produce going from Larne to Cairnryan is out of sight, out of mind. The EU doesn't give a toss if people flying from Belfast to Britain have immigration checks or not, so there can be a big speech about them being "no less British". It's solved, and we move onto the next massive problem. With the DUP able to bring down the Government at a click of their fingers, not giving a **** is off the table for them.

  9. Is Warnock not a dinosaur? I thought all managers over 45 were dinosaurs and all young managers were fresh but inexperienced, just like all those foreign devil managers who have no experience of the championship yet are well ahead of old British managers. Its all so bloody confusing, why can't managers just adhere to their preassigned roles and be done with it?

  10. Are you shrooming, sir? They may be traditionally unfashionable, but they're far from a piss-poor side. As to the broader point of representation versus quality, I think the intent is to try and have both. Obviously you want the finals to contain the best teams, whilst trying to encourage the game in developing nations.

  17. The EU's position is that "Creativity and flexibility can't be at the expense of the integrity of the single market and customs union. "This would be not fair for Ireland and it would not be fair for the European Union" So you're right that everyone agrees that there should be no hard border dividing the island. It's just that the British position is there shouldn't be one at all (which if we're outside the Single Market will not and cannot happen) The European position is that the border moves to the sea, with Northern Ireland on the Irish side of it (which the DUP will make sure doesn't happen). So basically, all the stuff that Bicks said - that.

  22. You seem to be arguing a different point to everyone else. Nobody has said that there is no way to avoid this. What you say above is (in my understanding) correct. As long as everyone is happy and getting along, then the right agreements get put in place, new treaties are signed and then things carry on as normal. What doesn't happen, is that agreements aren't put into place, new treaties aren't signed and things carry on as normal. That is what leads to flights not taking off. It's why "telling them to whistle, leaving with no deal and just using the WTO" isn't in any way an option. It's like a canary in a mine - if you see someone blathering on about how it's fine because of tariff levels and trade deficits it's proof that they don't know what they are talking about, and they've not considered stuff like this. It's a certain consequence of us not concluding negotiations. Which is fine if it's some numpty on Twitter or in The Daily Express saying it. When it's the Prime Minister or Home Secretary, not so much.

  23. 7. In this era of "fake news", your press is completely unreasonable. It peddles lie after lie about the EU. You're being fed click-bait propaganda nonsense daily. So much so that the EU Commission in the UK has kept a track of EU myths on its website. Have a look: http://blogs.ec.europa.eu/ECintheUK/euromyths-a-z-index/.

  24. I think the difficulty is that the EU has 2 kinds of arrangements for Aviation. Within the EU and to/from the EU. Currently therefore, the UK is compeltely covered under all the EU arrangements for Aviation. When we leave, we'll go from inside to outside the EU. so the EU internal flights agreements will no longer apply to the UK. And as we'll be outside, the EU to external flights arrangements won't apply either, we'll have to put something in pace and agree it with the EU (should hopefully be easy, for the reasons ytou mention) . Flights between the UK and non-EU are not going to be covered by any agreement at all, so again new ones will all need to be in place by Brexit day. Quite a lot of work, and cost that. There therefore needs to be, before Brexit day, arrangements put in place to allow Aviation between everywhere else in the world and the UK. It's all currently sorted out by the EU. Like with many things (e.g. Euratom) it may be possible, it might even be likely, to quickly draw up and ratify some effectively identical agreements with everyone else to allow flights to continue as they were before we left the EU. That's the best case - everything stays the same, but at the cost of a load of admin, load of time and effort and of moves by e.g. Amsterdam to take away transatlantic flights from London to Schiphol (one of the arguments made by the Gov't for the 3rd runway at Heathrow) . There's no "better" case. The best we can do is keep the current arrangements at extra cost and impact. The worst case is flights to and from the UK grounded everywhere. And for what? Sovereignty innit, innigrants comin' over 'ere spending their money. Ger'em out. The aviation is just one of the enormous amount of unforseen, unmentioned, impacts of Brexit. No upside, all downside.

  27. (i) That you lot are going to seriously regret threatening peace in NI; (ii) we're relieved that our government is a lot more sensible than either the UK's or the US' at the moment; (iii) we're thankful for the boys of 1916 for getting us independence from your disastrous state of affairs; (iv) that we could never really trust our "best friend" Britain to act in good faith with the North anyway, and so if you're being unreasonable about the whole EU thing (and IMHO you are being completely unreasonable) well then we'll see yiz later.

  31. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=16&v=qWqegVx7nwQ What making the world cup meant to Panama. Think their president just said feck it and gave the nation a national holiday today. Maybe Trent could be persuaded if that happened here. Quite happy for them given the circumstances on how they missed out in 2013 but how on earth was that first goal given?! Nowhere near going over the line.

  40. When you're at work carrying something bulky but not heavy, and people insist on trying to help by carrying it or open the door, or make sure your path is clear. Or whatever. But in reality all they do is get in the way or create a socially awkward moment. File this under me being a word removed.

  41. So did my first and probably last adventure race last weekend over in donegal 16k run 2k kayak 24k bike all uphill, 4 k mountain climb 2 up 2 down (the peak was 750m so fairly straight up) finish with 18k bike (6k offroad) and a 500m beach run. all summer training for it went to shite, chest infection after a virus the week before had me going into the race on antiboitics and nearly a stone lighter due to sickness, add to that a storm that was forecast for later on in the day arriving just in-time for the start so gale force 8 winds all route. Had stomach cramps 10k into the run then barfed everywhere 31k in to the race cold sweats light head ...twas lovely ....text the wife and told her I quit not gonna finish, rang the steward and told them im 31k in ready for pickup....Then the phone screen saver came up of the kids and I just sat there and managed to talk my way back on the bike with some shit of "how can you ever tell your kids to try their hardest and give everything when your about to DNF a race" got to the checkpoint at the mountain and got a quick checkup my the ambulance crew on site they said its your choice if you go up or not but they advise against it ...so of course got the second wind at that stage and said **** it i'm nearly home .......oh **** .......I have never had leg cramps like it pure pain all the way to the top ...every muscle on fire ....... Anyway I wont go on ..I managed to finish the race .....**** ....and now a marathon in 4 weeks .........Why .....how .....

  42. Is is strange, all the pundits saying it was genius on O'Neill's part but it was just ROI capitalising on one mistake, they offered nothing all game, if that one mistake doesn't happen Wales easily draw the draw or even push on for the win. So I say it is luck. ....but then again there was a period of a few months when that is all Villa did under O'Neill. One shot or one deflection, one set piece, or one OG and we grabbed an undeserved 3 points. So maybe he is a genius. I am so confused.
