  2. There's all types of arguments and counter arguments about Lerner's spell in charge, from the hope of the past to the dispair of the future. But to me it is really simple. Unless their is a massive sporting upset (as in record setting) then Villa are going down. I don't care if it's due to not spending enough, spending badly, employing the wrong people, not being able to cope with FFP or any other reason - simply put the buck stops with him and no one else. Further more for a club the size of Villa historically and financially to be pretty much nailed on for relegation is so bad that I wo

  7. Just to put this in to further perspective, although there could be lots of barometers, this is a list of the 20 most successful clubs in England. You could argue this is what the Premier League should look like: 1. Man Utd - ever present in the Prem (£) era 2. Liverpool - as above 3. Arsenal - as above 4. Chelsea - as above 5. Villa - as above =. Spurs - as above =. Everton - as above ------------------------------------- The above teams could argue there is an element of 'right' to be considered a big team and no excuse to be relegated. 8. Man City - five seasons out

  12. I think before this happens it goes really, really big. Like bigger than can fit in a draw under a bed or in the back of an estate car . It then goes really small and goes mental because the little marble fellas of hotness do not have a big place to bounce so they bounce of the walls more as they completely lose all grip on the hotness, it can fit in a glove box or in one of those handy rucksack things and then it goes super cold. Brrrrr. Yes that cold. Scale might be out a little. I am not a teacher.

  13. How do you know this though? We've never had a world in which children aren't indoctrinated to accept that received stories aren't true. If people - all people - were rational thinkers, would there be war? Probably. But you can't claim that as a fact. This lack of critical thought is why some people accept what the media (or their religion) tells them rather than being able to think about things for themselves.

  17. Obviously a fantastic player in his day, but his fitness could be a concern, not appeared in a match day squad all season and hasn't played since March. At his age may not gain fitness again

  18. Thought this thread would get bumped today with the new episode of Serial appearing. The first series was lightning in a bottle and I doubt they (or anybody else) will ever be able recreate it but they have picked an interesting story for the second series. I'll take this opportunity to pimp 'The Allusionist' by Helen Zaltzman. It's about language and etymology and it's delivered in a very witty manner. Delve through the archives as there are loads of great episodes.

  19. If we go down and we should do everything possible to prevent that then a play-off spot should not be our target or the target of this football club. Our target should be guaranteed automatic promotion as champions and nothing less. Aim for less and we are likely to get less. The play-off places are a target for teams like Wolves and Ipswich who are not good enough and did not do enough in the summer to go for a top 2 place although they would have no doubt set a top 2 rather than a top 6 target for themselves before the season started. Our target remains currently a top 17 finish to this

  25. I would have liked to have seen us strongly linked with making the odd signing or three by now. Players such as Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Steven Naismith, Andros Townsend, Benik Afobe, Tom Heaton and Rico Henry for example may be available to buy/loan early next month. We need to do any such deals without delay but there does not appear to be much if any activity on the transfer front at B6 to me

  27. Laursen was a warrior, but I agree, just never on the pitch enough for me to go down as a legend.................. I also think Dunne is talked down on by the villa fans as I though Dunne (until the end when villa went tits anyway) was a very good player for us, same goes for Collins........... and they at least gave us full seasons duty I gotta admit ive never understood really why people say "we need a new mellberg or laursen"............ when IMO id rather us have a new "Ehiogu or Southgate"........... These two never get discussed and were far better players, in far better teams, and

  28. There's no need to reference extremes. We don't all need to be "most rational". We need to be more rational. We need to make more choices based on reason and fewer based on feelings. We need to be better at recognising logical fallacies and avoiding them.

  32. No, no harsher standards. I just don't think he's very good right now. To be clear, I think he has more potential than anyone else in the squad by far. A much higher ceiling than everyone else, including Grealish. But right now, he's a dead end. He's way too raw to even be starting games in his natural position, let alone lumping him in a role he's never played before and telling him to save our season.

  33. About 100 minutes. I'm excited to see what he can do as he settles down and gets more game time. But to claim he's our best player after what he's shown so far is ludicrous.

  39. Re: Traore as a striker / Traore in general Here's a scene you may remember from kids football, or very low-level football with mates. You've got a team, and everyone on it is shit. Everyone except one player, who is bigger, stronger, faster and 1000x more talented than the other players. The team plays the same way: the best player goes up front. The other kids have one simple job - pass the ball to him. Every time they do, he makes something happen, dribbling past loads of inept schoolboy defenders who get fooled by the easiest of dummies. Most of the time he scores six or seven goals a

  41. you're comparing him to the wrong player, i dont see why anyone would suggest that we drop ayew for libor, rudy on the other hand... at the very least kozak looks busier, he's got more hustle and bustle about his game, will run all day long, closing down defenders when we dont have the ball and giving our own players options when we do have it, not playing statues in the box next to 2 defenders and then being defended as not his fault because our wide men cant put a worldie on to his head
