  1. Wasn't he supposed to be having a "showdown" meeting with Sherwood? Wonder how it went? Carles: Boss, realmente necesito saber si tengo un futuro en el equipo. ¿Por qué no me has seleccionado? Timmy: What are you on about? I can't understand a **** word you're saying! Carles: Qué?

  7. Definitely got nothing to do with them moving into an enormous new stadium that they've got no chance of filling unless they offer massively discounted tickets. Nope. Nosiree. It's an act of goodwill.

  11. Bennett is and always has been an extremely capable footballer even though some of his displays have at times suggested otherwise. We've not seen the best of him in first team action by a considerable distance in my opinion and some at the club who know far better than I. The main issues with Bennett have been confidence and belief, at time concentration and being part of a dog shit defence. Given what Sherwood is seemingly very good at getting in players heads and getting them to just do what they are good at I certainly wouldn't discount him significantly improving Bennett I'm at least willing to wait and see because just as with Cleverley I suspect there is a far better player than we've seen to date.

  12. Tim wants Benteke to stay, and I hope he's not getting his dream move this summer, so he'll stay to ensure his place in Belgian national side. Next season we'll be so good he decides to stay for good. It can happen, right?

  15. It's also blind faith which nobody deserves in any aspect of life. It's not blind faith to acknowledge that someone else has more information available to them and/or is better qualified to make a more informed decision. IF Gil is not to stay at our club, I trust that the decision was either Gil's (possibly not settled well in the UK or has another offer/club/country more preferable to him), or Sherwood's (possibly Gil's attitude in training, concern over suitability to the Premier League or simply that Sherwood prefers existing Villa players in the same position), or a combination of both. I'm happy to accept Gil's and/or Sherwood's decision.

  19. Actually he was paid £60k-per-week to be our goalkeeper. He had no obligation to help out on the coaching staff nor did he owe Lambert any favours after being 'bombed out' by him.

  21. Lots of if buts and maybe going on. Do you not honestly feel that for 70k a week you mightn't want more than half seasons and as stated approx 9 goals per season? You say better than most players in the last 10 years, not a difficult feat to accomplish I would have thought, and in all honesty I would challenge even this. Not good enough I'm afraid.

  22. Nearly like every post on the last page or two. Was nodding at nearly every post. Social media, for a certain age group, is clearly just one-upmanship, to prove their life is 'better' or more exciting than other peoples. I admit it, I used to be the same but 18 months ago I came off all social media accounts and don't miss it one bit. I stay in contact with the people I want to through text or Whatsapp.

  23. We'd be on the same basic level tv money as last year as they new deal doesn't come in till 2016/17 as far as I know, but could probably get an extra few million out of extra games being shown due to being more competitive (or so we hope). With the wages in the last accounts just under £70m for 2013/14 you'd imagine that the wage bill has gone up a nice bit since then with the additions of Richardson, Senderos, Cole, Sanchez, Gil, Cleverley, Cissokho & Sinclair, factor in a new deal for Delph & Grealish, probably a few more I'm forgetting as well. Granted we would have lost the Holt wages, half a season of the excess of whatever Stoke weren't paying Ireland, Bent too will be off the books along with Herd, only other notables other than those who've been out on loan are Albrighton, El Ahmadi & Delfouneso. It's safe to say from a wages point of view we need to get rid of quiet a few before we add, even with Bent gone we'd probably be up around the £75m mark before a ball is kicked going into next season. At the moment assuming Bent, Stevens & Herd are gone, we have 29 players in the squad who will have played at least 10 league games, and this doesn't include Helenius, Gil & Steer so 32 players, to put that in perspective City have 24 players who have played at least 10 league games for them at the moment. We've 2 goal keepers with on #1 wages, 3 right backs who've played over 60 times for us in the league, 3 left backs who've only played 82 times between them and that doesn't include other players who've played there, Richardson, Baker, Lowton & Clark. When you ignore depreciation & amortisation we actually made a profit of £20m last year. (13/14) We are probably in a similar situation to O'Neill's time now where we have players who are earning in excess of what they are worth compared to playing time, but it's just a case of the players are on smaller contracts, and therefore should be easier to shift, from a squad point of view you'd imagine we can spend more than last year (£10m but looks as if money was put aside for wages instead of transfers) but we probably need to get rid of players at the same time.

  25. There's no way we should be looking to replace Guzan as he's been the main reason behind our survival in recent years. A couple of errors here and there there is normal for keepers, just look at Joe Hart! Other positions in the team need addressing before Guzan ever gets looked at.

  28. The worst thing about social media is just how filtered it is. Everyone is so busy trying to make their lives look better than everyone else's or be be more outraged than everyone else. It's a reflection on modern society I guess but it's all so **** fake.

  29. We're in quite a weird position with CBs - essentially got 5 players who have all shown capable of being very good at times, but all also had spells of being mistake-prone. Additionally they have all had a fair amount of injury problems, either regularly out for short-medium periods (Vlaar, Clark, Baker) or had one significant lay-off (Senderos & Okore). Generally you have to think that it's better to be picking the same CB partnership regularly throughout the season and this mix of inconsistent form & injuries are going to make that highly unlikely to happen for us. At the same time though, keep Vlaar and we've probably got better depth in this position than most clubs in the league as not many clubs will have 5 CBs of equivalent experience. Reliable options are not that easy to come by, either. Players who look good in other leagues can look weak here (think of Fazio and Chiriches, two expensive Spurs purchases with good reputation who've not exactly shone in this league). Vlaar may be one of our highest paid players but we do know what we are getting if we keep him & you could easily spend those wages on a transfer fee that turns out to be a total waste.

  31. Sherwood said we have an unbalanced squad and he wants to get rid of some players. We have alot of full backs and central midfield players. Cole is finished and nzogbia is almost thirty.. Why wouldn't you keep a 22 year old with so much ability. Hope the media are talking shit.

  32. But fighting ISIS doesn't do that. The token effort made in Syria and Iraq isn't putting enormous cash in anyone's pockets. I don't deny that war can make good money for the right people, although I'd stop short of the more conspiracy leaning angle you have there. Its just that what we're doing to ISIS is so small scale for military action the benefit to the right parties is so small it's likely outweighed by the downsides of ISIS existing at all.

  34. Todays media reports, that Villa do not wish Helenius to return, so his agent is trying to find out, if Villa will release him or what happens next. Despite having scored a couple of goals for AaB, also important ones, Helenius is far from his level when he left AaB back in 2013. He still lacks confidence and the speed on movements he used to have. I think he has scored 12 goals for us, which is not bad, but the feeling is, that he could easily have scored more. He is not even a regular starter at the moment. I don't know if he will stay in AaB, that depends on him being released and no better options are available. He really needs a shot of confidence, to get back on his feet. At his old level, i would have liked him to take the chance once more under Sherwood, but i doubt he would be anywhere near the team in his current form, so it is probably for the best, if Villa and Helenius agrees to split. I think this is it from me in here I have enjoyed keeping you updated and hope it has been useful. Good luck in the future, sorry that you never got to enjoy an in-form Helenius at Villa Park.
