  1. Past hour
  2. It’ll come down to whether Spurs will be more Spurs-y than Villa are Villa(-ry?).
  3. I lost my dad to this horrible disease. My thoughts go out to him and his family and friends. And what a bloody player!
  4. I said it a few months ago that Alonso seems sensible and not an arrogant clearing in the woods like Gerrard or Lampard and would be happy to develop further as a coach before making the next step up
  5. I have been buying Rod Stewart albums. My cut off will be Blondes have more fun, and I am yet to buy his solo debut. That said those albums have really been faultless. I have always had a liking of his pre 78 material and he does turn up in second hand record shops at a very good price. Anyway this morning I played Smiler, Never a dull moment and every picture tells a story, the latter has possibly the best side of his career in it's B side.
  6. In that case, it would depend who was running Aston Hall Ltd; if it's different people entirely that's basically okay (though it's worth noting if Aston Hall Ltd ends up a massive money sink then you could still end up with bad situations like the club overpaying for its use), but if it's Chris Heck or whatever then no, his focus should be on the football business.
  7. Part of the rules is that they do actually make contact with home.
  8. I think the suggestion is that they intend to build it as a national sports stadium to host more than just their games, but bigger sporting events too, they're saying that they're investing a lot in the city not just the club itself. They've already partnered up with American professional sports and commercial real estate giants The Oak View Group. Presuming they survive this season, will be interesting to see if they build a team to match these ambitions, as if serious about all this crap then you would think they will want to put together a team capable of getting to the Premier League as soon as possible, it's what they're fans will be expecting too
  9. Those extra light panels on the left were to allow additional light to pass through for the residents who were put in shadow. It'll be exceptionally difficult to obtain consent to extend backwards for the same reasons. And that would just be granting that the structure could take the additional load. Judging by how much my seat bounces at the front of the upper Holte when the crowd gets rocking, I don't believe they could add additional seats there either There isn't a lot of room if you need to maintain the views from Terrace View and disabled seats. I suspect any "extra" seats will be converting more GA seats to GA+.
  10. Makes a change from closing 3 stands for asbestos and dodgy wiring
  11. I think I've spotted where we are at odds. What do you mean by "club"? I see no reason NSWE couldn't set up a new vehicle to buy and operate Aston Hall and appoint appropriate people to perform that role. Aston Villa Football Club would simply be a customer of the hypothetical entity. This is the model we already have, the club do not own the stadium, we are tenants.
  12. As moving is a non starter, I’ve been looking at ways they may look to add capacity. By looking at the Holte you can add rows to the front and rear of the upper tier without major reconstruction works by extending them forwards and backwards.
  13. It would be really funny to be fair. Stuck in League 1 with 7k attendances and becoming the first "Super Stadium" in the country to close three out of four stands out of a lack of demand.
  14. Even a draw is 3/1 in some places, this is always a close and generally low scoring fixture.
  15. Absolutely right, and as I said, I just whistled mine off quickly. They sort of play into existing biases on quality and produce results that are at least as unlikely as any - but there's something both addictive and comforting in doing them. I think United are going to get uncomfortably near to us over the next few weeks, but I still think we can finish above them. Tomorrow's game and the one against Brentford just seem bigger and bigger every time I look at the rest of the season.
  16. Duplicate File Finder It’s free and finds duplicate files and photos
  17. Those things are mostly fine, but I probably wouldn't be okay with just owning random restaurants; on the other hand if they were part of the stadium complex like Villa Live was originally planned then it would be not just okay, but excellent. The basic premise here is that the further you get away from the core business of 'being a football club' then the more you encounter different types of business challenge that we may not be equipped to resolve, that may be cyclical in other ways or subject to regulation, that ends up dragging down the football business. I mean, you can take the absurdities in other directions as well. Why not build an Aston Villa supermarket to compete with Tesco? Why not set up Aston Villa Rented Properties Ltd and try to become the biggest landlord in the local area? Re Aston Hall, if the club had a particularly excellent idea to use it for hospitality (I doubt they will, because it's several hundred metres from the stadium and what is it really going to offer people seeking hospitality at a football club that can't be provided better and more cost-effectively in the hospitality areas of the stadium?) then I have no issue with the club approaching the council to do some sort of deal to use the space occasionally, for a fee, but I'm opposed to any situation where the maintenance and upkeep of this old building ends up on the balance sheet of Aston Villa Football Club. In the end, we've appointed people to executive roles because we think they'd be good at running a football club, and that's what we should allow them to do.
  18. Hunted isn't 'real' as in it's a straight game where what is shown is what happened and nothing is artificial, but everything is meant to be done within the realms of reality. Hacking a Facebook account I think might be pushing it, but if we assume the series gives the hunters the full extent of any power the police might have you can probably justify their hacking a social media account. We quite like the series but it's hilarious how bad people are at it, and how much the show sometimes has to pull it's punches to let people have a chance of winning. Like, you're going on the run for a month, with limited cash, and at some point you're going to given an instruction to get to a specific place at a specific time to 'win' - you probably shouldn't go home, use a phone, especially to call close family, go anywhere near a big city or use a major train line, or contact anyone within your direct circle of friends and family. But all they do it.
  19. Has he really been out this long? Stockport got a very good chance of going up automatically and they have plenty of money behind them so selling him for 2-3m with a good sell on clause is the way to go here. Think Louie's situation is similar to O'Hare 4-5 years ago and we let him go to Coventry and he'd probably already be playing in the premier league but for the ACL injury.
  20. That's about as heated as it's going to get fit the foreseeable future
  21. Stones, Walker and Ake all big doubts for the Arsenal game on Sunday so let's hope those injuries are all 10 days and we'll get a relatively patched up defence to hit on the counter. Beyond that we won't be getting away with playing Tielemans in a two with all they have available in the final third now, going to have to put Tim into this game unless Unai has something radical up his sleeve.
  22. Kind of. But it’s an everybody loses scenario. I believe BT workers and Uni workers pension funds are significant shareholders. So those people suffer too. All the contractors and creditors who are owed money, they get shafted to the tune of close to 2 billion quid. And the public, we get shafted, because the work to stop the pollution and leaks and repair sewers and the like. That still needs doing and paying for. So now the taxpayer has to pay for it. Taxpayers in Brum and Manchester have to pay to fix London’s water. It’s the worst option, but potentially the final option if all others fall through. Other options include the government giving (via OFWAT) some wider leeway for the company to sort shit out - more time over which to spread the costs and then the shareholders pump more money in. But that lets the company fail to meet standards when other companies are not given that permission. like I posted earlier it’s kind of a who blinks first, bluff calling stage at the moment.
