Aston Villa Review: Episode 173 - transfers and tantrums

What a hideous time to be an Aston Villa supporter. A very active transfer window continued right into its final hours, during which an actual game of football had the temerity to burst our bubble. With the signing of Brentford's Scott Hogan waiting to be announced, the new Villa man's former club destroyed his new one in front of the television cameras.

After that reality check, another. Villa lost at Nottingham Forest on Saturday to round off an appalling week and to continue our poor start to 2017. If January killed off our play-off hope, February's conduct with its corpse has been questionable at best. In this week's Aston Villa Review, Chris and Steve welcome some new faces and lament some old habits.

    • Max went past Lewis on lap 9 and has pulled an 11 second gap 10 laps later   Alonso/Sainz/Perez/Lerclerc battle was fun at least. Perez handed P3.  *13 seconds actually, the actual race is in the mud tomorrow.
    • Arteta would be crying in each press conference if he had 4 key players out for the season
    • Still don't really understand the point of sprint races.  On another note, Rosberg is absolutely dreadful on comms.
    • Yeah but that’s not time wasting. It’s not like they’d have run out of time and only been able to take 9 penalties. There’s no clock ticking
    • There is a large block of voters for whom ending freedom of movement was the whole point of Brexit. Opening up the U.K. to ‘uncontrolled immigration’ again (even only for young people) would absolutely be seen as a betrayal to them and they would scream blue murder about it, with the angry mob cheered on by the conservative press.  The Tories have had to shut down the proposal to stop any further shedding of votes to Reform and Labour have quickly shut it down to prevent it being an issue for the next election. They are very well placed with their current strategy and it would be foolish for them to throw all that away to reopen 2016s talking points.
    • Football is the most played sport by junior boys in Australia and the girls are closing the gap on netball every year.
    • Gotta say I'm not sure what's the point of investing in the Australian side. Small population, talent spread our among ridiculous amount of competitive sports over there, AFL is king, rugby, cricket, swimming etc. There hasn't been much Australian talent of note lately (hopefully we got the best one lol). Not sure there's much profits to be made on Aussie soccer either but could be well wrong.  The MLS franchise seemed to have made more sense in all aspects.
    • To a degree it delayed the restart, as Ollie didn't have a ball to take the penalty, then got further delayed when funnily enough the ball turned up from the crowd just as he was about to start his run up.

    • Coen esque noir farce. Would advise just going in knowing nothing other than if you're a fan of Fargo you'll more than likely enjoy it rather than watching the trailer which spoils a bit of the plot.
