Aston Villa Review: Episode 134 - Tim Sherwood sacked by Villa

After eight months, 28 matches and a three-week propaganda war, Aston Villa's decision makers have defenestrated "manager" Tim Sherwood with the team sitting at the foot of the Premier League table. The weekend's defeat to Swansea City appears to have been the final straw but the likelihood is that Sherwood has been a dead man walking for weeks.

In this week's Aston Villa Review we touch on the latest match briefly before discussing Sherwood's tenure, sacking and potential replacement. Sunday afternoon brought with it some very credible sources making some bold claims about former Lyon coach Remi Garde, who seems to be the favoured candidate as the search begins/continues (delete as appropriate). We also look ahead to this week's League Cup tie at Southampton.

    • "You ate a whole bag of doritos and didn't leave me any?" "You ate two packets of hob nobs and I didn't eat one." "Yeah but I offered.' "You weren't here."   FYI there are two more bags of doritos in the cupboard. Apparently I'm in the wrong for eating a bag of crisps to myself regardless of quantity remaining and other snacks consumed elsewhere.   Bullshit.
    • Not feeder per se. Abramovich was friends with the Vitesse owner. During those years, Chelsea sent 28 players on loan there.
    • Just thinking of our general shoot out record. Am I right in thinking the only serious shoot out we've lost in last 30 years was 1999 against West Ham? And that match got replayed in the end because they put on an ineligible player. We've had the shoot out wins v Tranmere, Inter Milan, Bolton, Sunderland and West Brom before last night so a very good record indeed compared to most clubs. Think it's due to the keepers we had at the time being great presences for those occasions. Bosnich, James had that Emi type presence facing penalties and Guzan and Steer also did well in the more recent ones. Also usually have a core of experienced penalty takers which helps aswell.
    • V Sports acquisition at a discount price?
    • Damning stuff in the Guardian 1) It said Vitesse had provided “incorrect information” that was important for a forensic investigation of whether it had breached sanctions law. It said Vitesse had also withheld vital information 2) The KNVB’s licensing committee said it had concluded that there were “indications” that Abramovich had controlled, or still controlled, Vitesse and that there were “risks” that sanctions had been violated. It said it would await the outcome of the ministry’s investigation 3) In a statement on their website, Vitesse said the deduction had been “inevitable”, citing factors including their submission of incorrect half-yearly financial figures and their inability to demonstrate that they did not have ties to Abramovich.
    • Quite enjoyed Gunpowder, especially the noble last stand..
    • No. I’m not. What I am assuming is that they wouldn’t have done the 7th October rampage of murdering 1500+ people and kidnapping 250 more if Iran wasn’t onside. If that’s right, then the precise degree of which individuals from Hamas and Iran pushed for it, planned it, supplied the weapons and intel and so on can’t really be known apart from those involved. So I think Iran was, as a minimum “onside” with it and more likely, IMO, approving or indeed encouraging and deeply involved in instigating for their leaders own twisted agenda.
    • As I've said 100 times. There will be a CPO there sooner or later. We need to modernise UK housing stock and that's prime poor quality housing. Once Ladywood is redeveloped they're bound to cast their eyes at more areas. A private partner to help get it done would be welcomed I think.
