Aston Villa Review: Episode 155 - end of season review

And with that, it was all over. 38 games done, the last of them a limp 4-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal, and Aston Villa are essentially now a Championship club. In the last show of the season Chris and Steve revisit the supporter questions asked in The Independent over the weekend, which Chris provided answers for; now it's Steve's turn.

There's also our annual review of Villa's players. Over the years we've tended to give each one a grade but this year we haven't bothered because, well...F. Nevertheless we rasp our way through the full squad, single out the bad 'uns, try to find some good 'uns and generally just have a good old whinge about the season just gone.

Great review! Didn't realise these AVR's were blogged on VT. Glad I found this.

Will you guys be doing another one to discuss the takeover, or will it wait til next season?

We will do. I've been warring with BT so it won't be this week but we'll get something sorted once the new manager is in and (hopefully) some of the dust has settled after the takeover.

Hopefully a few people will remember to click "Follow" at the top of the blog and set their notifications in their profile to alert them.... :)

Moving the links to blogs up is a good idea (even if it was only as a way of stopping Game of Thrones spoilers!).  I never clicked on them before because they were pretty much invisible, hopefully this sends a bit more traffic their way.

The world needs another Villa Review soon though.  Dr X is such an interesting character that he practically demands a show.

You'd explode if you didn't have a place to vent!

    • I’d like to know that as well
    • Four years (to the day) is a long time in politics
    • I've spent 2 years thinking Bellingham was on a lucky streak, he followed a similar path to Sancho, and a few others, and I'm not gonna lie, I didn't want to rate him. He's shown up, he's done it, and he's done it very well at the highest level. I'll sit on my hands with my opinions. Obviously he has great tekkers, very athletic, good football brain, but there's something more about him, that sets him apart, I don't know what it is, but we've had a lot of very talented 'soft lads' and 'party boys', and still do, in the squad. He hasn't ever come across like that. I always get the impression he has a very 'old school' attitude to the game.
    • Can you share who that was? Maybe best for PM!
    • Anyone know if it's possible to sort photos, or delete photos, based on them being duplicate on an Android device? For example - I have and album, lots of photos, some I know are duplicates, exactly the same photo, but different file names. Is there a way to identify and delete the dupes? Thank you legends x
    • Horrible, horrible disease. Dreadful for the family as well seeing someone slowly disappear.
    • Mixed feelings on this. Fully appreciate you posted this in good faith and with the best of intentions and I respect the sentiment, but he is still alive. Deteriorating of course and I wouldn't want to underplay what he and his family will be going through, it's a very hard transition to make and I wouldn't want to speculate one way or the other over how much life he or anyone else will have left on this spinning orb - but he's not dead. I think a minute of anything before kick-off would be a bit premature and maybe a bit rough for his family and friends, not to mention Sid if he happens to tune in to any coverage of the game. Clear from what Collymore wrote that although he's getting worse, there's still an awareness there. I would say a gesture like this is best kept for a future date when it will be a lot more meaningful and even more sad tbh. Again, without speculating at all.
    • Yeah, I liked that. It feels like a bit of a slower start this year than last year. 2023 I’d committed to buying something every month and by end of March I was on two a month and missing a good few.  My fave for this year is still Motherland by Angharad at the moment, but a long way to go.
    • We’ve sent some young lads out there to gain experience, youngest group of players , mainly u16s some 15s and a few 17s
