After an eventful international break, Aston Villa returned to Football League Championship action with a new manager in the dugout. Steve Bruce, formerly of Manchester United as a player and a whole bunch of clubs as a manager, has embraced the challenge of turning around a team that has taken to Championship life like a duck to a wood chipper. Bruce's first game at Villa Park was a 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and brought about one of the worst performances of the season. A penal
This was a point gained rather than a point lost because Wolves were by far the better side on the day and had the chances to have run out clear winners had they taken them. They just seemed to want it more than we did.
We had hoped for a win, an early new manager “bounce” and for the players to want to pull out all of the stops to impress the new boss but old habits are hard to break. Although there have been significant changes in our starting line-up since last season this season’s displ
I've an awful flu-like chest infection right now, so there are two boxes waiting to be unboxed. I'm frustrated.

124 days. We've had colds that lasted longer. But 124 days was the total length of Roberto Di Matteo's managerial tenure at Aston Villa, by whom he was sacked this week after Villa's latest games against Barnsley (another draw, another late concession) and Preston North End (rubbish) didn't go his way. Even after five minutes in the job, few seem surprised or upset. In this week's Aston Villa Review we stick the boot in. Chris and Steve talk about Di Matteo's performance, weaknesses and sacking
Aston Villa made a meal out of taking a point from the game against Newcastle United on Saturday, but take a point they did. After going behind to a Tommy Elphick own goal, Villa battled back with a rousing last half hour. And, for once, it was Villa who grabbed a goal at the death. Aaron Tshibola's header gave us something to cheer about. In this week's Aston Villa Review we examine the myriad questions posed by Saturday's match, discuss Roberto Di Matteo's tactical choices and ask whether the
We have grown frustratingly accustomed to conceding goals and dropping valuable points during the last 5 minutes of games this season but this time we scored rather than conceded one late in a game.
We were really abysmal in the first half. Playing three central defenders did not work for us and our defence was shaky at best in the first 45 minutes. Our midfield was none existent and we posed a minimal threat up front. Newcastle will have been disappointed to have only been one up at the b
Chris and Steve have been unable to record a show for a while for various reasons that ain't none o' ya biznizz, but we're back in action this week to catch up on the latest happenings at Aston Villa. Roberto Di Matteo's side has hardly impressed since last we spoke, and our conversation about Villa's recent matches against Brentford and Ipswich Town is a case study in brave-facery. As well as assessing the two freshest games, we talk about the apparent pressure on Di Matteo, his performance to
So I finally managed to get the video edited and online. I am a massive geek, so I really enjoyed this one. I hope you do to.
Really feel I got value for money this month.
A Villa team that seem incapable of seeing out even the last 5 minutes of a game seemed to decide last night to try to see out the entire second half. We left it to the visitors to take the game to us rather than take the game to them in the second half having gone ahead on 19 minutes. As we know a one goal advantage is not enough for us and so it proved again last night.
We have now dropped seven points due to conceding goals during the last 5 minutes of games this season. Had we seen thes
Aston Villa have now dropped five points due to conceding goals during the last 5 minutes of games this season. Had we seen these games out rather than conceded goals in the 85th minute against Sheffield Wednesday, in the 86th minute against Huddersfield and now in the 87th minute against Forest we would now have had 11 points rather than 6 and would have been in 5th rather than 17th place.
We are currently just 2 points clear of the relegation places and 10 points behind the early league

As the international break takes Aston Villa briefly out of the firing line, three parting shots from Bristol City ensured that our temporary departure wouldn't be a happy one. In this week's Aston Villa Review we talk about the team's second loss of the Championship season and ask some of the questions so starkly asked by the performance that inspired it. There's also yet another chat about Dr Xia, his input so far and his ongoing Twitter exploits, as well a quick update on transfer comings an
If relegation to the Championship has one effect, it's that a single week out of the podcasting racket leaves a backlog of too many matches to review at once. Since we last spoke, Aston Villa have lost at Luton Town, beaten Rotherham United, and drawn against Huddersfield Town and Derby County. There have been new signings, injuries and some horrendous goals conceded, and we talk about them all this week. But the truth is that the football was overshadowed last week. Former Villa striker Dalian
Lets just see how west ham get on against lpool Saturday. I watched the Liverpool, Everton game and Liverpool had some chances but Everton outplayed them, wanted it more all over the pitch. LPools heads dropped. West Ham is not the place to go to with a poor attitude.
Then they play spurs at home, I so hope I'm wrong and they beat Spurs but watching them. It going to be close.
I'm not saying its going to happen I'm saying it could happen, saying it's not going to happen is just.........
Exactly. People don't seem to realise how hard gaps like that are to overturn at this end of the table. You can't just string a few wins together and reel teams in, unless they completely collapse. Which is rare.
We're basically to liverpool what Man Utd were to us a couple of months ago. The swing in form required to overhaul an 8 point gap is huge with 10-12 games left. With 4 games left it's virtually impossible
Like that idea. I think getting an experienced head in makes sense, especially for a relateively lower fee. Lo Celso is another one, he'll definitely be leaving Spurs this summer.
Key words ! As I said before the proposed new corner where the trinity met the north stand had more rows by removing the walkway. By reprofiling the trinity lower tier you can add rows so any lost GA seats can be replaced whilst adding additional GA+ seating.
What we have to remember is that we are no longer aiming to compete for places between 12-7th. In those places, a swing of 5 positions with 4 games to go is very possible.
We are talking about overtaking teams who lose 5-6 games all season. Liverpool lost 4.
We are 99% not overtaking them.
